Everything 'is' moving to being completely online, we are already extremely reliant on the internet for everything. And to be honest we're only going to get more and more reliant on it, and that will probably be the downfall of everyone ;p

If the internet were to completely go down everywhere in the world, it would be insane chaos because almost nothing would work.

But to the point, the savegames are also saved on your harddrive, so you can still play offline.

With PS3, u have to install the game to ur hard drive which takes about 20 mins, and by then u're disinterested in the game when its done. And the f'ed up part is, u still have loading times in the game. So its pointless. I have money to spend on games and systems so selling it wasn't a big deal to me. Plus, Xbox 360 is way better minus having to pay for Xbox live though its worth it.

To say that you're disinterested in the game once it finishes installing is one of the most ludicrous things I've read in recent memory. If you want a game enough to rent or buy it, are forced to wait 10-15 minutes, and at that point no longer even wish to play it, something is wrong with you, not the console. Installation is your friend, even on the 360. It cuts down on loading times and makes things smoother.

Phil, if you use automatic updates, the PS3 will boot up at a scheduled time and do things such as search for updates, synch trophies, and copy your game saves from the hard drive to cloud storage. It doesn't save them there only so its not like you could lose access to it.
