The federal gov't is IMPOSING ITS VIEWS??!! I had to yell there. If anything is imposing its views, it is science and logic and decades upon decades of research. And this fool wants to impose literalist Christian beliefs on public schools instead? How does someone this stupid get elected governor?
Spoken like a true politician: vague and not to the point. This asswipe clearly believes in evolution and only supports the teaching of creationism to advance his political career.
I think the US should teach intelligent design in their schools, this way we get rid of the damn yanks form the scientific, academic and eventually every other scene.
He said he wants the best scientific information available to his kids. That would preclude ID... unless they have come up with some sort of evidence yet.
Does he think that ID isn't being taught because of political correctness?
That's just plain stupid, ID isn't being taught because it has absolutely no evidence supporting it, it's an argument from ignorance and whatever claims it uses to support itself are false claims against evolution(meaning if you were to teach both then ID would be teaching the kids to disregard evolution).
I believe that they should teach BOTH!!! Scholls may be government funded, but should they keep any theories from us??? Many people say, "well, it ofends me for the public schools to teach intelligent design." It may offend some people, but there are people offended by the teaching of evolution as well. teach both and let the children choose!
Creationism, or as they now call it Intelligent Design, is not a theory! It can't be tested, therefore it can't be falsified, a basic requirement of a scientific theory. The STORY of creation has been with us for thousands of years and it WAS taught to children before the theory of evolution came along, and even for a while after it was still taught to children. Now that we actually discovered what is really happening in the world, what place would a story have in a science class?
@Poodleluvr10 intelligent design is a fraud. It has ben exposed as the sham it is, so deal with it. the only way it will be taught is to show how flawed it is.
I have no problem with teaching ID in schools, as long as it's taught scientifically- two or three days of syllabus time, teach what the ID theory is, review what constitutes a scientific theory and examine if there is ANY evidence to support the "theory" or if it really qualifies as a theory. Also, teach all the scientific refutations of the ID theory.
Let's teach alchemy in chemistry class and immaculate conception in sex education class. Let's teach astral travelling in physics class. How about laying on of hands in medical school?
It's funny how none of the ''faithful'' of islam, judaism or christianity will accept a prayer and a ceremony in place of surgery!

The school kids get to research microbiology and and examine the wealth of scientific data to decide which is better - Evolution or ID? I didn't know kids in the fine state of Louisiana had the knowledge of graduate students and similar abilities as the experienced scientists? Nor that an government could finance all the research - EVERY YEAR over and over - as the kids moved through school.
ID, just when you thought you'd face palmed enough - sigh.
Local school boards should decide cirriculum? no. People need to be taught consistently and correctly. This guy is a liar, he is jusy appealing to his redneck base. The theories have been challenged, evolution wins every time.

Intellegent Design/Creationism should not be taught in public schools along side evolution. It could be in a comparative religion course, as long as taoism, islam, atheism, Buddhism, confucianism, and all the rest receive equal time and consideration.

There is a probability however small or strong that the universe did not get here by chance but had a designer. Therefore ID deserves a place in the public school and in the science classroom and as a scientific theory.
It is not SCIENCE. Teach it is philosophy if you want. Science has to be observable. It has to be tested. It has to be able to be disproved by scientific methods. Benny Hinn, I mean Bobby Jindal is pandering to the religious. Plain and simple just like Benny. He sees dollar signs, again, just like Benny. He's a moron, you guessed it, just like Benny.
The basic problem is that the people who attack evolution have not actually studied it. If they did, they would see that there's nothing TO attack. It isn't a Satanic Conspiracy, it's simply the description of a process, providing a very useful taxonomy and a way to understand relationships. I see no way around this problem of ignorance. And it will become far worse if we allow these untutored people to drag our science education back into the bronze age.
Well there we go, he said it himself, he wants his kids to be taught the very best science. He is obviously a fan of teaching evolution only because intelligent design is not science. Thanks Jindal!!!!
Pathetic politician not answering the question the first time until the questioner asks again. Stupid fundie. He was exposed to the truth and chose to not accept the scientific method that he was taught. Shows you how brainwashed people can get if exposed to enough dogma. I guess he doesn't accept The T of Gravity, Germ Theory, Cell Theory, Endosymbiont Theory, Big Bang, etc.The other possibility is pandering to the fundies and lying for votes. Gee, I wonder what he REALLY believes? Sad fundie.
sure teach "intelligent design" in school...just do not put it in my childs science class because it is not science. The universe is full of mystery, give them some thought provoking information, but don't lead them to believe it was some intelligent being that designed everything because nobody could possibly know that and we probably will never know. damn self righteous religious people think they have all the answers.
In conclusion, there is absolutely no way the universe has a divine artificer, unless that artificer is patently evil. Nothing other than a truly evil designer would make individuals like me have to deal on a daily basis with people as magnificently stupid as DoubleGauss. If miracles happen, then I wish for a time machine so I can send all the creationist nitwits straight back to the Bronze Age where they belong. Just when I thought I couldn't run into anyone dumber on Youtube...
I have a solution: People like DoubleGauss, who have such a broad-based distrust and contempt for science should not be allowed to use the products of years of basic & applied research, including the Web. This would disqualifiy DoubleGauss et al. from making use of TVs, radios, cars, appliances, plumbing, home heating/cooling, medicine, etc. Those who would spit in the face of science in such an empty-headed fashion should retire to a f%ck#n hole in the ground & let the rest of us move forward!
Teaching intelligent design would be an incredible misjustice to the children of America. Evolution should and will be taught for years to come because it has the most EVIDENCE to support it. There is a reason why the majority of scientists believe in evolution and why the government keeps church and state separate.
Intelligent design is a joke. A fabricated joke unsupported by evidence.
My buddy believes in the invisible flying spaghetti monster, why not teach that?
science requires evidence. to claim that creation/intelligent design is science requires evidence. "lots of people believe it" isn't evidence.
get the fuck out.
lots of people also believe we are reincarnated souls from other planets. teach that too, then? the line has to be drawn somewhere. science has drawn the line at "if there is no evidence, it's not science" if you don't like the line that's fine, but if you want to believe something you can't claim it to be science
there is 0 evidence for a creator and therefore even less evidence for that creator's design. how the hell.... i... just don't know what else to say. this is ridiculous.
Gotta love when Christians show their true colors.
"Bobby Jindal is a great man. Any of you who think he is not are stupid."
He's a fucking idiot, and so are you. He wants a purely religious view, unsupported by ANY evidence whatsoever, taught as science in our classrooms. It's embarrassing.
If you support that, please get the fuck out of this country -- go live in Iraq, or Saudi Arabia, or Afghanistan, and see what living a theocracy is like.
Hes actually extremely intelligent, thats what is so annoying about this. He knows creationism is horseshit but instead of saying so he side steps the question. His responses are very clever, its nothing but pandering.
Local school boards are NOT private organizations, they are government funded, thus they have to go along what makes the most sense to the SECULAR government.
"ReductioAdAbsurdum, Bobby Jindal is not the 'Fucking ignorant moron.' here. Yes you are."
Fantastic argument. Thanks for demonstrating theist reasoning skills, and illustrating why religion needs to be kept out of science classrooms, except as a cautionary tale (demonstrating the vast array of cognitive biases that the scientific method corrects for, and theist wallow in).
Evolution is not science. It's religion, just like Global Warming. You are told to believe without questioning it. And j like some religions ( Islam) there is zero tolerance for a contrary viewpoint.
By whom? Is there a Church of Evolution? Science, unlike religion, ENCOURAGES questioning, it REQUIRES it -- brutally skeptical peer review is what separates bullshit from truth, allowing us to acquire RELIABLE knowledge that can be used to do things like double human lifespan, eradicate disease, create global transportation and communication, etc. If you have ANY evidence that contradicts evolution, PUBLISH IT, or shut the fuck up.
DoubleGauss: Your comment makes me think of something Sam Harris once said: "We are creating a civilization of ignorance." The fact that you would even make this comment indicates that education in the U.S. is in nothing less than a critical state of emergency. The fact that you refer to evolutionary theory as "the world's biggest joke" is simply tragic. If the theory of gravity had any real or imagined bearing on religion in any sort of critical way, you'd probably attack that too. So sad.
The difference between science and religion, doublegauss, is that scientific knowledge is backed up with evidence, whereas religious 'knowledge' remains unqualified, pontificated and enshrined through ritualism. There is a lot of demonstrable evidence in favour of evolution, which makes it fully scientific and not religious at all.
@lonerook860 Man's intellect and finite knowledge will be useless in the end, when confronted with God's infinite wisdom. Man's pride and arrogance will be swallowed up along with all other sin of this world. Man's so called "knowledge" is only temporary.
God's infinite wisdom? Please clarify that phrase and how you correlate our reality with that wisdom. Please also state your faith, which i assume from your response is belief in Christ.
If you would like to message me any concerns you have about the theory of evolution I will do my best to answer them. With the advent of genomics and bioinformatics evolution has become a predictive theory with massive databases full of agreeing evidence.
Evolution is a basic assumption in thousands or hundreds of thousands of peer reviewed journal articles. To say it isn't science is misinformed at best.
High school students need to learn the facts and understand the means in which those facts were vetted. One does not get an introduction to mechanics and then be expected to the critique advanced aeronautics.
Jindal is close to a real solution. Too many assume there are only two sides to this issue. The question: is there a downside to public schools implicitly refuting religious doctrine? Eventually, doctrine will either change so as not to conflict with facts, or become extinct. Preserve positive aspects of religion, give an overview of world religions, but in anthropology rather than biology. Allow students to construct a logical interpretation of religion. This is the only hope for Islam.
Intelligent Design, make no mistake about it, is about biology science classes. They're saying "the best information" and they're talking about a world view that has life popping in to existence in essentially its current form. Which didn't happen. Hence no fossil bunnies in the Cambrian period. No one anywhere is suggesting you should forbid a theology or religious anthropology class. Smart people want superstition kept out of science while ignorant people mistake superstition for science.
yes darwinism IS a theory. even before darwin died it is debated that he refuted his own theory. my question is why NOT teach about Intelligent Design? what's so harmful about it. better learning comes from debating and asking questions anyway. darwinism shouldn't be taught as if it were fact.
and there is science for Intelligent Design. think about how the world works out,,.. the complexity of cells. it's is a wonder to me.
The reason Intelligent design will never be taught in school is because you can't falsify it. Evolution is observable, and it has thousands of applications. All intelligent design offers are pathetic attempts to discredit evolution. It does not help students better understand the world. You said thats there is science in intelligent design, thats completely false. ID is a group of ignorant christians that are pissed because logic doesn't match their religion.
ID is not science and it has no place in public science classes.
Which version of "intelligent design" should we teach in public schools? The Native American version? How about Scientology, Islam or Hinduism? There are so many and they all deserve equal time, since NONE of them are founded on evidence. How about after ID class we teach our children astrology and alchemy?
Evolution IS a fact. It's a "wonder" to you because you need an education.
The most disconcerting factor in all this is he claims to be a Biology Major, so one would expect him to know that evolutionary theory is not a "view" and that ID/creationism is not a Science. While I initially thought the statement too harsh, I am starting to agree that religion does in fact poison everything.
Evolution is long gone. Now they are going to teach alien creation so they can avoid God- just trading one more lie for a lie. Aliens are a race of fallen people in disguise dont be tricked by their phony appearance. Christian 25 yrs exp.
Then we can have astrology taught alongside astronomy and alchemy alongside chemistry! We have to let the kids decide guys! This is a democracy, we have to let the public who have no idea about science - decide what is science!
It suprises me honestly that the party which speaks of tolerence is the one the party of the people on here throwiwng around words such as moron evangelical NAZI or questioning someone's education. If you trully believed you would win the competition of ideas then you should embrace this being taught because no one could possibly believe it.
Listen to me. If you think Intelligent Design is made up, you are mistaken. When you die you will go to hell for not believing in God. The truth hurts.
Local school boards generally know jack and shit about science. How about we get some actual SCIENTIST let us know.
Our high school students don't have any idea what the hell science is really about, much less are they going to be writing peer reviewed journals at 18.
I to am only interested in facts and scientific data. Thats why I personally don't believe in dolphins, however I do believe in mermaids and wish the schools would teach the children more about there wonderful world under the sea.
I think we need to be less dogmatic about how we teach other subjects as well. Kids need to be able to make up their own minds about whether two plus two equals four, whether the world is round, and whether the constitution actually bans the color green.
He graduated from Brown University with honors in biology and public policy. Afterwards, he received a master's degree in politics from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar.
But you missed my point, hes a politician and no real scientist should ever go there because he will only distort the facts for the sake of more voters.
Which begs the question - what he hell went wrong? This man has all the paper proof that he is intelligent, rational, and highly educated...yet he fails to understand even the basics of what the scientific process is, the difference between religion and science...Rhodes Scholar or not, this man is confused and it is scary that he is in a position of leadership anywhere.
Wow. Right after saying that schools should teach the theories that fit the data objectively, he says he PERSONALLY doesn't believe in evolution. Why is he even talking about his personal opinion if he's wants to teach only objectively determined facts? If this guy's qualifications are legitimate, then he cannot be unaware of how full of shit he is. He's a fucking liar and he wants to teach lies to your children for his own political agenda.
in 100 years the downfall of the united states as a leader in science will be seen as the most destructive action of the republicans, even worse than fighting an unjust war or ignoring the poor and helpless, EVEN greater than ignoring climate change( which as well resulted from the influence of the church).
Hear that boys and girls? As long as the majority of a town are Holocaust deniers, then that should be taught in History class. Same for 'flat-earth theory' and 'homeopathy'.
He talk about the scientific process and includes "creationism"? How about this, teach creationism in a comparative religion class and present evolution in science class! Your might as well teach Greek mythology in science class if you are teaching creationism!
What a fucking tool. Are all republicans completely uneducated when it comes to science or is this just so they can get "the vote" from the inbreeded ppl in the bible belt?
Teach Creationism alongside evolution, but also teach Hindu creation theory, why not bring the creation theories off all faiths into science class and teach them all as fact!!!

He's a fucking idiot, and so are you. He wants a purely religious view, unsupported by ANY evidence whatsoever, taught as science in our classrooms. It's embarrassing.

Fantastic argument. Thanks for demonstrating theist reasoning skills, and illustrating why religion needs to be kept out of science classrooms, except as a cautionary tale (demonstrating the vast array of cognitive biases that the scientific method corrects for, and theist wallow in).
ReductioAdAbsurdum 3 years ago 4
Evolution is not science. It's religion, just like Global Warming. You are told to believe without questioning it. And j like some religions ( Islam) there is zero tolerance for a contrary viewpoint.
DoubleGauss 3 years ago
"You are told to believe without questioning it."
ReductioAdAbsurdum 3 years ago 11
ReductioAdAbsurdum: I share your frustration completely.
jwc1926 3 years ago 2
DoubleGauss: Your comment makes me think of something Sam Harris once said: "We are creating a civilization of ignorance." The fact that you would even make this comment indicates that education in the U.S. is in nothing less than a critical state of emergency. The fact that you refer to evolutionary theory as "the world's biggest joke" is simply tragic. If the theory of gravity had any real or imagined bearing on religion in any sort of critical way, you'd probably attack that too. So sad.
jwc1926 3 years ago 2
The difference between science and religion, doublegauss, is that scientific knowledge is backed up with evidence, whereas religious 'knowledge' remains unqualified, pontificated and enshrined through ritualism. There is a lot of demonstrable evidence in favour of evolution, which makes it fully scientific and not religious at all.
lonerook860 3 years ago
@lonerook860 Man's intellect and finite knowledge will be useless in the end, when confronted with God's infinite wisdom. Man's pride and arrogance will be swallowed up along with all other sin of this world. Man's so called "knowledge" is only temporary.

God's infinite wisdom? Please clarify that phrase and how you correlate our reality with that wisdom. Please also state your faith, which i assume from your response is belief in Christ.
sccitylhh 1 year ago
What do you mean zero tolerance?
If you would like to message me any concerns you have about the theory of evolution I will do my best to answer them. With the advent of genomics and bioinformatics evolution has become a predictive theory with massive databases full of agreeing evidence.
Evolution is a basic assumption in thousands or hundreds of thousands of peer reviewed journal articles. To say it isn't science is misinformed at best.

BobbyJindalSucks 3 years ago
Jindal is close to a real solution. Too many assume there are only two sides to this issue. The question: is there a downside to public schools implicitly refuting religious doctrine? Eventually, doctrine will either change so as not to conflict with facts, or become extinct. Preserve positive aspects of religion, give an overview of world religions, but in anthropology rather than biology. Allow students to construct a logical interpretation of religion. This is the only hope for Islam.
georgetom2 3 years ago
Intelligent Design, make no mistake about it, is about biology science classes. They're saying "the best information" and they're talking about a world view that has life popping in to existence in essentially its current form. Which didn't happen. Hence no fossil bunnies in the Cambrian period. No one anywhere is suggesting you should forbid a theology or religious anthropology class. Smart people want superstition kept out of science while ignorant people mistake superstition for science.

yes darwinism IS a theory. even before darwin died it is debated that he refuted his own theory. my question is why NOT teach about Intelligent Design? what's so harmful about it. better learning comes from debating and asking questions anyway. darwinism shouldn't be taught as if it were fact.
and there is science for Intelligent Design. think about how the world works out,,.. the complexity of cells. it's is a wonder to me.
amyXindie 3 years ago
The reason Intelligent design will never be taught in school is because you can't falsify it. Evolution is observable, and it has thousands of applications. All intelligent design offers are pathetic attempts to discredit evolution. It does not help students better understand the world. You said thats there is science in intelligent design, thats completely false. ID is a group of ignorant christians that are pissed because logic doesn't match their religion.
Amen, yee
rockisdead1946 3 years ago 2
ID is not science and it has no place in public science classes.
Which version of "intelligent design" should we teach in public schools? The Native American version? How about Scientology, Islam or Hinduism? There are so many and they all deserve equal time, since NONE of them are founded on evidence. How about after ID class we teach our children astrology and alchemy?
Evolution IS a fact. It's a "wonder" to you because you need an education.

It suprises me honestly that the party which speaks of tolerence is the one the party of the people on here throwiwng around words such as moron evangelical NAZI or questioning someone's education. what possible "information" can you give about "intelligent design?" There is none. It's all made up!

Listen to me. If you think Intelligent Design is made up, you are mistaken. When you die you will go to hell for not believing in God. The truth hurts.
LesMisNutJob 3 years ago
"When you die you will go to hell for not believing in God. The truth hurts."
Which god? Odin, Zeus, Ra, Apollo, Thor, Vishnu, Wotan, Venus, Isis, Jupiter, Osiris, Mithras, Minerva, Rama, Yahweh, Volternas, Artemis, Baal, Loki, Dionysis ... ?
I guess all of them were made up except for the one you happen to have been brought up to believe in. What a coincidence.
The truth does hurt, but you've got yourself some powerful anaesthetic there. You're letting yourself be manipulated by fear. Don't.

Local school boards generally know jack and shit about science. How about we get some actual SCIENTIST let us know.

I think we need to be less dogmatic about how we teach other subjects as well. Kids need to be able to make up their own minds about whether two plus two equals four, whether the world is round, and whether the constitution actually bans the color green.
