  • who's the asshole calling him tevin campbell?

  • well this is why the academy sports programs will never be top contenders. they are primarily academic schools. stick to that. stop fuckin with peoples emotions and let them know when they get in there, they are in there to serve. not get drafted. if he wanted to play football, he shouldnt have went to west point. I played 4 years college baseball and two in the minors.... and am now in the airforce. so play the game right if you dont want to end up on the dumbshit list.

  • He will be able to play in 2010.

But he is not under contract with the Lions anymore.

  • @jdawgisback lions just offered him a contract today

  • he plays linebacker for the golden knights?

that guy needs his ass kicked

  • My Pirates signed two baseball players from Army. They reported to State College and played a few games before the army took them back.

  • its a shame they let this happen..to give a kid like that a million dollar job and then say...nah...ship him..dont let that loophole open

  • comment me back

want to chat with singles jR

  • this shouldn't be too much of a shock to Caleb. Kyle Eckel graduated from Navy in 2005 played for New England in the preseason but didn't make the last cut to the 55 man team. he was able to do this while "working" at the Naval Academy Prep School in Newport. he went to Norfolk until May 2007 where he was released by the Navy to train with the Dolphins for the summer before coming back to New England.

  • It's because those pricks from Navy and Air Force whined about it. "Oh it's not right to let someone under contract play professional sports." Granted, he signed his committment to the military. However, during his initial committment at the academy, he also signed a statement saying that if he were drafted, he could play and serve as a PR. Seems the Army screwed him over on this deal. And fuck Navy. Stupid pricks....

  • army took abig PR hit for that I doubt anyone will go there anymore

  • God that bald guy at the begginning is like some fuckin Drunk Loser!!! God hes a fuckin FAGGIT!! Fucking Annoying Fat Bastard!

  • Caleb Cambell sucks, overrated sob, once you sign the military papers your ass is owned by uncle sam dipshits, lions are dumb fucks 2!

  • garand, your right he did sign a contract that has a clause that states when one goes professional in a field they will be released. So, they failed to uphold their end of the agreement. Oh also, I was there for initial invasion and all we found were some scud missiles. So, stop coming of like a brain washed conservative. Cpl. J G Wentworth USMC

P.S. Republicans destroy the American economy, do some research.

  • Thanks for being brave & forthright as a service member to speak the truth: Rethuglicans destroy the U.S. economy. If anyone needs that explained to them after these past 7 years, they are, indeed, brainwashed.

  • Hopefully this is not the end of Campbell'ss career. I look forward for the big thngs he will do in his future with the league because as Millen said he will get his chance some where down the line. I am glad we have people like Campbell without our soldiers we would not even have the right to watch football let alone live the great world we live today. I am disappointed though that he found out from Millen when he went to sign his contract and not form the military themself.

  • the lions lost a draft pick in all of this too... i don't mind the decision just the timing... they should've had this figured out b4 the draft... and the new policy shouldn't have affected him siince they strung him along- just ppl in the future

  • Sorry the Army f'd you over Caleb. Its a joke that they would let you prepare to live your dream all summer, and then two days before training camp rip it from you. An absolute joke by the army!! After seeing the train wreck the leadership in the army has become, a total shit head move like this is about par for the course...

  • the lions suck. The Army doesn't. No one has sent him to Iraq. Caleb Campbell is one of the few true Americans left.

  • rofl you do realize we went to the war in iraq under false pretenses (in other words it made cheney and bush a profit) and what does it matter if they miss out on one recruit and he still would do service just not in iraq

  • naruto you sound like a typical brain washed liberal. Military service is an honor. The man signed a contract with the Army. as far as your drizzle about false pretenses Iraq did fire at our jets. Iraq did have huge chemical weapons abilities. Iraq did have missiles retrofitted for chemical weapons. Iraq did violate atleast 72 of the agreed ceasefire. But facts don't matter just keep your head in sand and ballot marked democrat.

  • wish the army would have let him play in the NFL. he would have done wonders.

  • He says he "might" persue a career as an officer after football. He doesn't seem to be being himself. He seems to be trying too hard to say the right thing. I don't detect sincerity in his words.

  • Has anyone ever heard of a "once in a lifetime clause"? It means if you win the lotto or have a situation deamed once in a lifetime you get out of your service... It wasn't fair that it didn't pertain to this situation before... The Army got this one right...

  • I've been in the Army for 18 years now, and just to set record straight.. there is no "once in a lifetime clause". There are circumstance which are considered for processing a Chapter leading to Discharge, but contrary to popular myth, once you sign the dotted line you belong to Uncle Sam.

  • I dont give a fuck about caleb campbell i dont care if he went to a team or went to iraq it was fucking annyoing hearing about him in the 6,7th round every fucking five minutes hes the fucking reason i stoped watching the 7th round

  • unless you have served dont be talking about his situation, if the army is letting him do this there is probably a good reason behind it. One of the reasons he went to west point was to play football, most of their players do get recruited to play football and then serve.

  • Fags like this is why the army is turning into shit. He's self-serving and doesn't belong in the military. He even says he wants to stay in as an officer, meaning someday he'll be leading combat vets who actually served, while he'd been playing a fucking game. Worthless. Pat Tillman was a remarkable story, which I guess is why the army killed him off. This "policy" isn't policy at all. Shit is fucking retarded.

  • Whju your a dumbass, he is still serving his country he even said the army will have him work as a recurtier, whitch is still serving the army, also this does look good for the army haveing one of their own in the NFL and personal i like the new policey army has in place so seriously WHJU STFU

  • Get paid Caleb Campbell!!!

  • for all yall that are talking down on my boy caleb have no right you dont know the type of guy he is i went to school wit the young man and he has all the damn right in the world to do whatever he wants we have had friends go over there n not come back so for all you hatin muthafuckers heres a big texas FUCK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I am a Lion fan from way back. I am pleased to have this young man on my team. I've heard that other special skilled students are allowed to forego their tours of duty. He's not the first. They were talking about that on NPR.

  • this isnt right. westpoint is one of the toughest schools to get into for 1 reason (or it used to be that way): to have leadership potential for the army of the USA. By allowing his to go and play in the NFL is a very large problem. Now academies are no longer seen as "Military" academies, since one can go there and get "drafted" into the NFL. Instead of serving his nation like he signed up to, he has gotten out of his committment, and thrown $400,000 of tax payer dollars down the toilet.

  • Plus, what makes him so different? Why aren't the rest of his classmates allowed to refrain from going and possibly dying in Iraq? Why is he allowed to live? Because he's good at football? I'm sorry if i sound heartless ladies and gentlement, but that aint right. He signed up and committed to fighting for his country. Instead, hell play in the NFL for three years, hurt himself and open a car dealership.

  • dumb ass!!!

  • mike kill yourself, you're worthless to society.

  • Isn't he the Saftey

  • This is one of the greatest stories that Army has seen. This helps not only the Army for recruiting and being good again, but the lions because he isn't a half bad player, and it keeps him out of Iraq. When I grow up i want to be in the military so I can see why certain parents don't like the new rule about letting him go Pro and not into combat, but this is truly one of the greatest stories ever.

  • For those of you who are not familiar with the military, I would say less then 20 % is Infantry, they have SPECIAL SERVICES, which is where the DEGREES come in. The military trains you and pays for your degree. SEE YOUR RECRITER TODAY. GO LIONSSSSSSSSSS

  • what a great story, finally Millen does something right.

  • Agreed.

  • why are people so pissed off at him...grow the fuck up..its one guy

  • NINERS FUCC this team.....

  • How you dogde your service in Iraq? jsut play sports and get drafted...

  • Way to go Caleb. From half a world away and a former USMA instructor - this gives hope and example to every soldier in uniform. Everyone is welcome to their opinion, but I can tell you without doubt this is nothing but good for the Army. If your worried about your tax dollars or whose fulfilling what obligation - I recommend signing up yourself for a first hand perspective.

  • How is everyone so certain that him becoming a recruiter will really help recruitment? For example, how can he effectively recruit people into the Army if he has never truly been in the Army? The bottom line is that is an excuse of a job for a West Point graduate to have just so he can play in the NFL.

It's great for him to make it into the NFL, and I applaud him for it. But having said that, he should have to serve his commitment to the Army just like every other West Point graduate.

  • Your wrong. How many people would actually sign up for the military to go and be in harms way, Their are not a hole lot of people like me and others, who do that. Most hope not to see combat, But somebody has to do it. so we can sit back and argue about it, while their there. LOVE EVERY ONE OF EM. AIRBORNE. go lionsssssssssssssssssssssssss

  • dude he's the first person in our town of perryton texas to ever get drafted onto the NFL everybody's really proud of him

  • ayy man hes not the one who asked to have this done the military did and this is gonna help the military to recruit more people so he is fulfilling his obligation and he will be recruting people in the offseason so dont talk shit bout caleb

  • It should not matter how good he is or can be, bottom line is he signed up for the military and should not be excused for any tour in iraq or anywhere over seas if called upon. Thats part of being in the military!! Fullfill your obligations.

  • It wasn't like he asked to get out of his military service. The military put this policy in place, so why shouldn't he take advantage of it if he is good enough to make the NFL? If he doesn't make the Lions' active roster, he has to go back into active duty. And there is nothing stopping him from serving after his time in the NFL.

  • @jammertime33 Guys, don't forget what the process was. The thing that got me mad was that the Army decided the rule that you are talking about exactly a week before Caleb was to report to Lions training camp. My only beef is that The Army should have let Caleb know before, not after, reporting to Lion's training camp.

  • If you bring good people to the organization, it will rise.

  • I have mixed feelings about this. If a westpoint cadet wants to go pro in tennis, hockey, etc, do we let them go to? The army has a program where their athletes train year round and compete in the Olympics, World Championships, etc but they are still soldiers 24/7. Either way, I congratulate him and know that he will help with recruiting BUT it in a way it doesn't sit right with me.

  • I've actually had the honor of meeting caleb. He went to HS in Texas with a good friend of mine and actually invited us to watch army play at Notre Dame 2 years ago. This guy is polite, respectfull and everything that the army could ask for in a cadet. i was excited to see him drafted and i hope he has a great career. it is the dream of any football player to be drafted, cadet or no cadet, and the army will be gaining a great ambassador and not "losing" a cadet they trained. GOOD LUCK CALEB!!

  • Hopefully ill see him start and he won't cause trouble for the Bears!

  • how is this good? your tax dollars paid for education at west point, and instead of doing his duty going overseas, like i did twice, he gets a chance at the NFL.. its complete bullshit and I'm sure every vet feels shafted like i do

  • Not all service members actually go overseas....what he will be doing as a recruier is the same as the guys that sit at your local recruiting station in your hometown....does that mean our tax dollars are going to waste on them....NO...everybody has their own mission...Caleb's is to help recruit by playing football

  • CameronR87 is correct. Campbell is definetly not 14th in his class at West Point.

  • go lions, go campbell. awesome and classy move by the lions. campbell better make the team. :)

  • News flash, Caleb Campbell is no where near ranked 14th in his class. I'd be surprised if he were in the top 75%.

  • hey idiot, 14th in his graduating class at ARMY!!! way to look like a douche bag...good work

  • This is just plain GOOD. I think Detroit makes a lot of mistakes, particularly in the draft, but this is a very good move. Awesome for Caleb, the Army, and the Lions.

  • who is this guy with the mustache... i think he's been sippin a little too much

  • this is the best thing the lions have done since berry left.

  • Golden Knights????

    We're the BLACK Knights...

  • Feels like a historic moment captured in history and the Bill Chackhes fellow is smart too.
