  • R.I.P Gene Pitney thumbs up if you miss him

  • I can't be the only person who thinks of Look Who's Talking whenever she hears it.

  • @angiedrumm Ah ha!!!!! and noooo you're not the only one who relates it to "Look Who's Talking" the kitchen scene with Travolta. ^_^

  • Hairspray 1988!!!!!

  • This song makes me want to take up pole dancing...

  • Always loved Gene Pitney's music. I'm sure this song still applies to teens today. Thanks for sharing.

  • I loved his voice since I first heard this song. Great memories of my school days!

  • this song sounds like it should be in a twisted part of a horror movie, like the intro to a zombie movie or some hopeless twist at the end

  • great song....such GREAT memories...I can hear this over and over!

    Thank you for sharing it.

  • Purely an amazing song ;~}} they don't make music like that anymore!!!!

  • This song is pure genious!

  • It's Christmas morning and 15 year old me has just opened the greatest hits of Gene Pitney, Fantastic !! :)

  • @simber211 Lucky lucky you !!! Best wishes for 2012 ;-)

  • I DO NOT LISTEN TO THE top 40 garbage on the radio my current generation is infamous for...and i'm constantly being persecuted for not conforming to "pseudo" standards lacking any talent or substance...LONG LIVE GENE PITNEY!

  • I'm just a very seasoned soul in a "youngblood's" body, who often finds herself feeling displaced because i'm always without fail gravitating towards sounds, style, raw talent/skill, and hauntingly beautiful arrangements like this one. I'm the type of sista who goes through Wu-Tang, Madlib, J Dilla, Pete Rock's <--(Undergrnd hip hop artists) album credits to find out where their "samples" originated and ends up falling haplessly in love with the "hard to find", "out of print" original scores!

  • Gene Pitney has a magnificent voice. He had a very unique and powerful singing voice with such emotion. This song stays in you head long after the song is over. You can't hear this song just once - you have to hear it a second time. I can hear this over and over again and never get tired of it. One of the greatest songs of the early 60's. THANK YOU so much for posting this.

  • John Travolta & Kirstie Alley danced to this in Look Who's Talking. A video using them included this song was on youtube but got deleted. If someone can make another one, please do that but include scenes from all 3 movies, not just the first one.

  • @CC927 I remember that scene...great movie & great chemistry between these two that's why they are such good friends to this day

  • Wasn't this song nominated for an oscar? It was made for the movie "Town Without Pity," which was good (a bit underwritten).

  • @QuatermassMan Yes, it was nominated, but lost out to Henry Mancini's classic "Moon River."

  • @jsbach15 Yes, I remember that...

  • This song was the soundtrack of a movie, not so good, called Poor White Trash where Gene Pitney sang this song, he was not acting in the movie, the only part that was good was this song...

  • cool, angie2b1, I esr the song first time at 1964 I has 8 years old, so, lovely song,

  • Heard this in" Look who's talking". A great song to to slow dance to,and then take it to the next level.

  • @vinnyhoags

xD that's what brought me here lmao great song

  • It reminds me of stripper music or should I say burlesque,I love the song though.

  • It has a 1960's mafia tone to it. What does it remind you guys of?

  • Love old songs like this!

  • ..i was born in the 70s but I like this song very much..

  • im 54 this song is a few years before my time But i love this song ! thank you john 1948 five, i have 4 older brothers, and this song brings back alot of memories !

  • Gene Pitney (in his younger days) looked like John-Boy Walton, with darker hair.

  • Listen to this, back-to-back with the Perry Mason theme... notice anything?

  • This song is from an actual movie, "Town Without Pity" - a rape victim and role reversal - treating the rape victim as the criminal and the rapist a sweet smelling rose. Great song. Thanks for posting - one of my all time favs.

  • @CheckMate657879 -- No one treated the rapists as sweet roses. (BTW, there were 3 rapists.) Even their assigned lawyer (Kirk Douglas) told one of them, "Personally, I hate your guts, but I have to defend you." The girl's boyfriend's mother gave the defense lawyer negative stories about her (b/c she didn't like the relationship). The defense lawyer offered to plead them all guilty (and spare the girl a trial) if the death penalty was off the table, but the girl's father wouldn't consider it.

  • @57highland There's a reason the movie was called "Town WITHOUT Pity." You're describing one with plenty pity. Apparently, we have different memories. I was a kid when I saw it and I only saw it once, a loooonnnng time ago. So, maybe I got somethng different out of it. But, there seemed to have been no pity for the girl as I recall; hence, "it isn't very pretty what a town without pity can do."

  • @CheckMate657879 Right. There was no pity for the girl, the victim. But the criminals were not treated as "sweet-smelling roses", as you said before. They were treated as criminals by everyone. The military prosecutor and the girl's father chose not to accept guilty pleas by the rapists, because that would have taken the death penalty off the table. So, the case went to trial, the girl was portrayed by the defense as having "asked for it", and even her boyfriend's mother went against her.

  • @57highland Okay - thanks for the update. As I said, I saw the movie when I was a kid and didn't actually remember the town being mad at the rapists. I guess my young mind concluded if they blamed the girl, they must not have been too mad at the perps, besides the fact of trying to see the movie through the lyrics of the song as I'd imagined while listening to the song.

  • @CheckMate657879 Sorry if I offended. You're actually accurate in not remembering much about the town's feelings towards the rapists, because there was actually no focus on that. Problem was that the girl had a few enemies (prior to the crime), including her boyfriend's mother. That's where the problems arose. Those people didn't sympathize with the rapists, but they still gave unflattering testimony against the girl. There was no outcry of sympathy when the rapists got long prison sentences.

  • Reminds me of the days I would sneak down into the basement and watch my sister dancing with her High School friends! Movie was not bad either.

  • i love this song....and DANG HE WAS HOT

  • From Daygo. Perfect song for Amy Winehouise

  • This song reflects the thing between Enos Strate and Daisy Duke. Enos had a crush on Daisy, who had obligations to her uncle and her cousins. But it was Boss Hogg, who had the upper hand.

  • You've just gotta see the movie to really

understand this song... sad ending, but

it was as great as this song is!

  • @ApolloKun777 Can't remember. Depressing movie, though. Depressing osng, in fact I'm gonna delete it.

  • @angie2b1 You were in my study period. (grad 'in 63)

  • @angie2b1 According to IMDB Gene Pitney died on April 5, 2006 of natural causes in his hotel room while on tour in the UK. He was 66. He left a wife of 40 years and 3 children. Very sad.
