Eisenhower was the greatest Republican president since Lincoln, period. Without him, we wouldn't have an interstate highway system and we wouldn't have won against the Nazis. He helped integration and got the ball rolling for NATO. He was a great man and a gallant American.

All politicians should look to the model of Eisenhower on what being a statesman really means--sacrificing for your country and doing what's best for it. We don't have politicians like him anymore.

Eisenhower is overrated both as a general and a president. His "Broad Front" strategy in WWII led to the Soviet occupation of Easter Europe and drove Montgomery mad. He used the CIA to keep Guatemala a banana republic, overthrowing their elected government and supported dictatorship in that country for decades. It's not a coincidence that few top-rated American biographers of today want to write a biography of Ike, as an honest work will just kill his image.

I'm applying for a grant through the DHS and they will give grad students 50k, no questions asked, as long as you study terrorism or terrorism preparedness. 50k is no small sum, and I would be stupid not to apply for it with my field of study. But 50k times 15 awards! That's how much money the US government has to spend on defense.
