  • definitly enjoyed this video.. my daughter is fascinated by marbles and the creation. that=nks for taking the time to make this video!

  • i always collect on myself :)

  • is anyone else curious as to how in the world his video is 30mins long or is it just me

  • the mould looked smooth, i mean wont it smudge the glass?

  • dooooooooood im a nub and all but uhhh isnt your flame supposed to be a little bit away from the front of the torch with a surface mix? looks like you are beating up your candles on that torch from the camera angle atleast

  • what type of torch are you using

  • @xhellabentx Its a GTT Mirage

  • I've always been interested in glass blowing, I think it's amazing, glass looks like carmel when its hot like that, and the different things you can make is awesome. I would love to learn how to do stuff like this and glass blowing. Plus you can be creative and be proud of what you make, also you can make useful things like vase's, bowls, plates, all kinds of things, make them for your home, or give them as gifts, and the best gifts I think are the kind you make.

  • I need your help, would you please contact me?

  • Your work space is too clean. Nice video, thanks for sharing.

  • Nice, I really enjoyed watching and learning from this. I wish you would post more marble videos. I was wondering though, what is the tool you use at the very end for moving the marble into the kiln? Also, after you apply the dots, do you implode it but when the "cup" starts to form, you press it? Does this just go on until the dots meet at a point, or do you stop pressing at one point?

  • bro , your wasting gas with your outter open to apply dots ..good work though .. good job on the vid as well ..

  • OMFG a glass ball!!!...never seen one of those before...

  • where did you buy that marble bold block you have there? looks pretty useful

  • thanks for sharing

  • Wow. And I thought marbles were easy to make.

  • glass sculpture

  • where do you buy the large clear glass rods?

  • i have been interesting in doing this myself, where would i get the items and supplys to be able to make them???

  • @thisworldisgoinunder - Use Google and look up: ABR Imagery, Generations Glass, Winship Designs, Ftantz Art Glass just to name a few online distributors. Lots of cool stuff out there.

  • i would love to learn how to do it.. i LOVE marbles! but i'm just a kid, no way I could do that, or at least get all the instruments.. =( anyway.. it is a very beautiful marble! ^^ love it

  • Wonderful! I never considered breaking the punty off while it sat in the mold, so I'm glad you included that. Thank you for sharing your skills!

  • hotglass i thought your video was awsome, i liked it, it entertained me. thanks for the taking the time to make the video. Josh from Sydney

  • Thanks for the Vid> I'm looking at getting into SOME kind of glass work, and this really has my interest. If I can find a buyer for one of my kidneys, I might be able to get started. Nice work!

  • Thank you very much, you answered many questions I had about this process

  • The more of the videos I watch, the more I want to switch over to boro

  • Very nice work, where is your vent ?

  • @slukowsk It is built into the window as usual.

  • thats a 1800 dollars torch :( can i borrow $1800????

  • Прекрасный урок !

    Замечательные изделия !

    Замечательные изделия !

  • Wow. Thank you. You have a rare skill you have developed there. Great Video.

  • This was incredible. Thanks for posting.

  • cavd!!! (cool awesome vid dude)

  • Excellent Vid, thanks. Can you tell me what psi you are running your propane and oxy? The torch tip doesn't seem to be as oxidized as others I've seen. Thanks

  • I think you mean carbonized. I'm not that careful with my PSI settings. They run between 10-15 PSI for both O2 and Propane. I watch my torch face VERY carefully while I'm working, and make sure none of the ports glow red or have carbon buildup. I clean the carbon off my torch face with a brass brush while I'm working and when I'm done. Basic Maintenance.

  • Thanks. I run a phantom at 20-25 psi oxy and 5 psi propane and would still get the carbonized torch tip. Plus there would be some carbon build-up near the ports, even with some blue turn on. I've seen other gtt users with completely uncarbonized torchtips and am wondering how they keep theirs in that condition. Anyway, thanks again for posting all your vids, they are quite helpful to us addicts and yet-to-be addicts.

  • WOW A GLASSSMITH COOL.

  • excellent video, wish more blowers would put up videos with thorough explanations like this. nice marble too

  • The box is an electric annealing kiln and is used to prevent cracking. In this example I am putting the marble in a kiln that is preheated to 1050F, holding it at that temp for at least 30 minutes and cooling slowly over night.

I don't know about talent, but it takes a bit of cash and determination to get your studio set-up. It isn't really a good craft for a "dabbler". If you do get set-up, flameworking is a tremendous amount of fun and there will always be new stuff to learn.

  • what was the signifigance of the box you placed it in?

Generally, where do you buy these supplies? Interested in learning! I'm sure you're annoyed with the hundreds of people which state so on every video :P, been interested for years and always thought it to be much more intimadating. Not that this doesnt require talent, I just had something much much more futher away in cost than this

  • Cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • How much would you charge for that marble?

You'd think it would be: Materials + Gas + Electric + Labour = Quite expensive when you look at it that way no?

Very good video with the head-cam =]

  • I always thought marbles were made by putting drops of molten glass into water

  • that does sound reasonable

  • you must really like those marbles....

    what you made them?!

    WOW!

  • ur awesome u inspire me to do that

  • haha ty i made one butt uhhh is not a marble i tryed but it came oout to be a shot glass

  • nice, I'd like to have that much skill. thanks for another great video ;)

  • gnarly video. i learned alot now im gunna go give that a shot! hey u should try n put a didydium lense over your camera some how!

  • It takes 30 minutes to make one marble that sells for how much?

  • It take longer than 30 minutes. I cut a bunch out. Plus there is prep work and overnight in the kiln. How much something costs isn't related to how long it take to make it but how long it takes to learn to make it. This isn't factory work. Handmade borosilicate marbles sell for $40 to $250 or more depending on the skill involved and name of the artist. Check "Etsy" for handmade marbles.

  • Really really good. Very informative!

    Master at work :-)

  • Thank-You, but it is more like Amateur at Play... ;-)

  • most of us have no idea about how marbels are made..so u go ahead n say ur de master behind every marbel there is and we would still believe u..hehe anyway gr8 video, amazing technique

  • yes, you would believe, but hotglass knows just as I do that if we are dishonest about where we are, the real glass community will not play very nicw with us in the future. they tend to all disslike people that claim mastery, then show up at glass events and demo normal and average stuff. but hotglass is at least a little beyond amateur at play, I would say very formed and functional artist, and approaching marble master.-)

  • Everyone should look-up John Kobuki Glass if you want to see "master work" marbles! Seriously mind blowing skill!

-Acroduster- send me another message. Somehow the "elegant universe" message got deleted and I can't reply. I have a question for you...

  • Thank you for the BEST Marble Making Video on YouTube!

  • I think its wonderful and the video is quality thank you ...

  • Your video was fantastic! You are a natural teacher and now that we have reviewed the steps we can try to do a very small marble ourselves. We've made pendants and I see how close the marble is to this process. Hope you make more such videos! Thanks!

  • Umm... That's how it's done. Even the pro's use a marble mold. I didn't demonstrate the best technique but molds are part of the process to get a perfectly round marble. I'm willing to learn other techniques so if you care to demonstrate a moldless marble, I'll watch.

  • please teach us your technique!

  • he just showed you exactly how he made it.

  • Like baking cookies.

  • amazing! you made it look so easy!

but if i tried that i think i would burn every inch of skin on my hands.. not to mention the large puddle of glass there would be under the table once it burned all the way through..

excellent video there i loved it :)

  • wow this video was fantastic. Ive never seen a marble being made before, i found it so facinating and interesting. thankyou for the 10 out of 10 video. it was really clear and the best video ive seen. You are very tallented at making them. they look fantastic.

    thanks again

  • that marble is a marvel.

  • best quality video's ive seen in a long time

  • wow

  • must pay alot for gas

  • Imagine I clamped the torch to the table....

  • I'm imagining you're burning donaldhoughton's face. Great vid tho, fun to watch

  • haha!

  • Imagine you tipped that flame over.

  • try this for getting rid of flat spots. when you on the last step to burn off the punty mark. Work a little farther out from the mark and work into. I find it to work much easier. Good Video!

  • i wih i could make a marble lol sadly im on a hothead upgrading to a red max asoon as i move inside :D

  • nice work man! dots are fun! I should go make some marbles...........

  • what torch is that phantom?

  • GTT Mirage

  • I enjoyed that greatly! Thank You!

    Helives!

  • Thank you! I may try that some day!

  • I'm callin it good too.

Great demo. . . very helpful.

The guys who make the Glass Torch Tech. Gtt torches used to design the torches for Bethleham or Baracuda .. I forget wich but the GTT's the absolute best torches out there.

  • wrong! the bethlehem design was developed by a research scientist specializing in thermodynamics and patented in 1957. LONG before gtt was even around! and a baracuda is a model of bethlehem torch! AND THERE IS NO BEST TORCH! that is the mindset of disaster! it means you are more interested in tools than in glass art! if I was making only goblets I would want a herbie! if large marbles a GTT, if pendants a baraccuda...............

  • this comment was meant to be a reply to giovmatts comment.

  • Sweet video brother. nice you take the time to share, I remember back in 1990 everything seemed to be top secret unless you had Eugene blood through ypur system... That camera set up was sweet. What is it? You must have put a old lense on it for the filter or was that a bought extra Didyium filter made for the camera? Keep sharing it helps the nebies and the dinosaurs:-)Thanks..

  • Liquid fuel Zippo brand lighters will not explode. I have taken white hot gathers of glass and dropped them right on the metal case. Dries out the lighter but that is it. I do not use strikers. Thank-you for your concern but in this case you are mistaken.

  • If the health and safety departments had their way nothing would ever be made. So much culture being lost forever because of insurance companies and law suits!

  • True of Butane lighters, like a Bic or any cheapo you pick up at a gas station. Fluid lighters like a Zippo though may flash-up but do not explode in normal circumstances unlike gas lighters and qualify similarly to lighting with a match.

  • how did you get a 30 min. video on youtube? I'm trying to upload my video of me doing a bead but it's 12min. and it wont let me

  • You will need to apply for a different account. I think it is now called Guru or something. I was grandfathered in from the original system. Let me know how it goes.

    ~R

  • Very cool.

I love to see long videos that don't leave anything out.

Always wanted to see this tech done.

  • im going to be in the star ledger yay look in glassroots

  • its when you make a disk shaped bead as thin as you can fuse it in it should still be a disk though then you take tweezers and twist the rim of it many times around the bead and it makes a ruffle sorta like this ^v^v^v^ exept even it look like the ruffles on a fancy dress O

  • not bad not bad at all you need to do ruffle bead i know how to do but i just cant get the hang of it also what torch do you use it looks like a cheetah or a lynx i have a minor

  • It is a GTT Mirage. What is a ruffle bead?

    ~R

  • WHOO! I have never seen a square marble mold like that! Where did you get it?

  • The marble mold and my flameworking glasses are from Aura Lens auralens(dot)net I only use Aura Lens glasses.

    ~Ross

  • Man i have no idea how you can work with the gloves..lol more power to ya.

let your marble cool waaaaay longer before you put it into the mold and try turning in one direction... you will be amazed with the difference.. take care

  • Thanks for the tip akglass. I am getting much better at using the torch and controlling the heat so I don't burn my fingers any more. Nuthin' like practice eh?

    ~Ross

  • Really good video, IMO the length is fine, I'd rather sit through a long video than have loads missed out! Thanks for doing these video's, your a star!

  • No. I just watched it over again and I couldn't even find where I said something that sounded like Killiam.

    Ross

  • very cool implosion marble! Thanks for sharing.

  • gloves???? Why??

  • It was very cold that night. Why is this such a big deal for some folks?? I got about 10 emails about the gloves...

  • get rid of those gloves youll never feel the glass with those things on

  • Very nice. I like the headset idea

  • Oooo... I am sooo glad you liked it. It was so much fun to put together. I am looking forward to doing the next one.

    ~Ross
