I prefer real books as well... but I don't prefer to lug them around, so Im getting an e-reader. Only question is, should i get the Sony or the Nook? (Im not getting the kindle due to amazons proprietary e-book format).

I hate reviews like this, where she doesn't even show how the damn thing works. It's the reason people end up disappointed with products at times because nobody gave a fucking damn about even showing how it works.

Pirate's would use ALOT of INK and Super Duper Scanners (fast and high quality), just to pirate Real books.

Oh no I don't mean real books, I mean the e-books would be pirated, I prefer real books myself, I feel it would be easier to turn to a page you are interested in going back to. Though it'd be easier to find keywords in e-books (if they had a find feature) if you were writing a paper on it.

Reading 3-4 books at a time is like having 3-4 televisions on at the same time and trying to make sense of it.

It's not a Sony issue in this case. It's a case of whether or not textbook publishers will go digital with their textbooks. If they do, they can use a digital reader today.

I like the idea and I'm considering buying one. I don't travel much (too many cats!) but like downloading free ebooks from Gutenberg which are murder to read on a laptop screen. I'll still buy modern books, but use the Sony for downloaded out of copyright books. Then I can clear some storage space in my house!!!

Bad thing is that you can not get newspapers or magazines as she mentioned in the review, you can do it with the kindle.

Main reason to buy one of these is that many of the books you always wanted to read are free as ebooks. The only problem I can see with this type of product is not the screen's contrast but the fact that it has a lot less lines (thus words) per page than an ordinary paper back, which could make it hard to stay in the flow.

when I first heard about product I scoffed but after seeing it for the first time today in my local Sony shop I was taken by surprise. The screen is very readable and comfortable to the eyes.

If/when the price goes down I would consider buying this in the future. It would also make for a perfect gift for the traveler who likes to read a lot when on the go.

wikipedia. if you looking for something to find on there then surely. if its interesting enough then you will want to read it there and then. i cant ever see something like this being used for such things. especialy with fast internet speeds on mobile's now.

If you read every night then this is a great product, i have owned mine for more than a year now and its awesome :)

Instead of a loaded book case or a box of books in my closet i have all my books in my computer. now i have 1500+ books. I know ill never read all of them but i can easily pick what i want each time.

but yeah i can recommend the sony reader, i bought it one and a half year ago.

Just to let you know i recommend the abc converter because so many of the books you find online are in LIT files. I always convert it to RTF files for my reader.

FYI you only need to convert the files you dont buy :)

Yes that is exactly what it is, for reading. It isn't being marketed as a laptop or pda. You won't find a laptop with a screen that consumes no power to display a single image. Power is only used to change the image, meaning the battery will last for weeks compared to a laptop's 3-5 hours.

i like these, i'd never get one, but i still like them. i wouldn't think of this just as a holiday(1-2 weeks) thing. think of the people who go traveling in gap years, or the people who stay in other countries for 4+ months of the year.

first comment. sorry but i don't think its worth £200. 99.9% of the time u will only read maybe 2 -3 books when your on holiday. you wont ever need 122 books in one place. i don't like the idea. cleaver concept though.

But supposing you did take this on your travels, it is so power-efficient the battery will last for weeks, you can leave the charger at home, which can't be said for mobiles, pdas, laptops etc.

Yes it'll be expensive at first but then all new technology is. I agree that no-one would need one of these, but it's not about replacing books. It's about making certain things more readable - for example, I often use wikipedia and when I look something up and find a massive page there's no way I'm going to read it all on screen, giving myself a headache in the process. Better to download it onto something portable like this and read it later anywhere.

That's just an example, it's not a question of it being interesting enough. I'm talking about reading anything lengthy on screen that will take hours. Most people get eyestrain when doing this, plus most people don't have the time to sit in front of the computer all day - life always creates interruptions.
