I have the same kind of laptop and the drivers are not available for sound, graphics and wi-fi so this guy is full of shit plus XP is just old and about to go out.
@akihk25 nope stay with vista and go to acer.com and download all the newer drivers this laptop is awesome I have it and I's say best buy for the buck. P.S not even 7 is better on this laptop, trust me I already tried both
I have vista on my 5520-5912 (specs: 19 Ghz, 2 GB DDR2) and (after over a year) is down right slow! My couzin has the same laptop and changed it to xp because of the snailish speed.
Only if you dont have enough memory!!! Vista and Windows 7 require more than twice the memory that XP does!!!! If you want speed use Ubuntu 9.10 for AMD
You have to use Acronis Disk Manager to create a new partition to install XP on there. That if you install on the C drive You need your original view.
If you have sound and wifi .. was the default OS Vista Home I switch to XP PRO OS works much faster that way. I recommend you do the downgrade to XP will not regret it.
The drivers for XP OS is on Acer's website.
Any questions you may have to order.

I agree with you wichwayproductions i bought 4gb of ram although my computer will prob not use it better safe than sorry and hey once i find a way to overclock aspire 5520 it will be way fast. BTW can anyone here help me overclock my aspire 5520 i have looked all over google and found atleast 5 tuts on my computer alone and none of them work

i know that acer have there back up driver on the hard disk also.. i see the installer on the drive C: on my laptop..
