This is a good thing and I am all for it and yes luloops people will take advantage that don't own pets but then who doesn't cheat in some way on their taxes. The rich get tax loopholes and the poor get paid cash.. take your pick.. It will help a lot of pet lovers keep their pet. I am all for the new tax credit. especially for people like my cousin whose dog was epileptic, needed some surgery that cost over a damn grand. I think that would be a great help. I personally spent over 1k on pets I've owned for health reasons. But I do beleive they would need a way to keep it from being abused. Because people will till no end. Like proof they own the pet vet bills something.

Our dollar is dangerously low. Jobs are leaving this country faster than we can blink and eye. People have lost half or more of their retirement. Our government has left our soldiers out to dry in Afghanistan. Now some of our representatives want to give a $3,500 tax break for owning a pet. This is insane and McCotter should try to fix the real problems we have! Owning a pet is not a necessity, it is a choice!

i'm 100% in favor of lowering taxes, but favoring certain groups over others is what got us into the 1000+ pages in the tax code now, end the insanity. Cut taxes for everyone, cut spending more, and save the USA as we know it. GOD bless America.

By giving education, health care, etc. we are not giving services to the parents, we give services to the human beings who are in need, but are not able to provide for themselves yet!

yeah, both pet ownership and having children are choices that individuals make. That's where the similarities end however.

There's a few practical differences, especially where the government is concerned. You see, kids don't stay kids forever. At some point, they grow up and begin paying taxes, something your dog will never do.

The state thus has a compelling interest in helping you raise and educate your kids. It's an investment, the kids today are the taxpayers of tomorrow

Yea, finally for those of us who choose to have pets instead of children. We pay property taxes and other taxes that support others desire to have children-why shouldn't those of us who choose pets & are responsible pet owners also get some tax breaks? what an amazing idea. I work in down town L.A. there are so many tradgedys related to animals & homeless animals in the area. This would empower me and give me an incentive to help them even more. This must pass! I would give my last dollar to help an animal before eating so this means a lot to me.
