Heli Logging is pprofitable because the timber you are going after is very remote and normally inaccessible by traditional methods (very mountanous, island timber, very remote, etc). So that timber is normally less costly to the logger because there is much less competition for it, being only a few Heli logging operations in the world. So even though it is costly to harvest, the logger pays less for the timber to the landowner. Also the timber is usually larger and is desirable saw timber.
@matthiashaenni This is a huge machine to do logging with! I thought it was really only done with Huey's, K-Max's and, in the past, Huskies. I wonder if it is still profitable with such a fuel guzzling monster?
