  • MAHAVISHNU

  • friggin' sweet, was just watching the original. if anyone could give this a fiery treatment, this outfit could, but what about the choir??

  • No...It's Billy Cobham's Stratus.......and while Billy was once part of the John McGlaughlin's Mahavishnu Orchestra this song is STRATUS...............

  • Cobham's kit has a better sound in my opinion . Thise is a fantastic album . Killer band

  • one of my fav you tube jams i would love 2 see more from this band

  • This is from the "Live at Ronnie Scott's" blue-ray disc......cool stuff indeed. "Eternity's Breath" from Mahavishnu Orchestra's "Visions of the Emerald Beyond", where Narada Michael Walden gave an incredible performance back in 1976. "Stratus" wasn't too bad either, from Billy Cobham's "Spectrum"...............all present and kicking serious ass!!!

  • "Stratus" starts about 1:26 in. The top is "Eternity's Breath" from Mahavishnu's Visions of the Emerald Beyond.

  • @PragueFanity haha, was just going to post the same statement, hope the rest see this. bump...

  • Mindblowing!

  • that's a song by the mahavishnu orchestra, trust me. i have that album. the second it's by cobham of course, the theme is really recognizable

  • @keo774 Totally right! John McLaughlin played the original Eternity Breath. Stratus is the second part on this video.

  • @keo774 i thought Narada Michael Walden played on that album

  • Jeff Beck is the only being in the universe that can make a guitar growl like a fucking lion. 0:30

  • @bradm1975: Brad, if you didn't know, Mr. Beck does TONS of guest studio work for other top-notch artists, and, I think, therein you'll find some of his very best performances. He's played (not just screaming solos, either, but, yes, some of those, too!) on records by Seal, Jon Bon Jovi, Tina Turner, and many others. His short, terrific solo on Rod Stewart's "Infatuation" a few years back REALLY sticks in my mind. Two notes into a 12-bar break, and you just KNOW who that lead guitarist is.

  • @dansteely77 Also, another great tune he played on, Imogen Heap's "Say Goodnight and Go." It's Jeff playing the guitar part.

  • I've had this song stuck in my head for weeks and I've been looking for the name over a week! AWESOME song!

  • @kingmateo100 As is Mahavishnu :)

  • @kingmateo100 This tune is not called 'Eternity Breath'. It is a cover of Billy Cobham's 'Stratus'.

  • @zildjian5o5 actually? I didn't happen to know that :P

As I've first heard this song on this vid and the name is "Eternity Breath", I thought it was the name of the song ^^

Still I love that song, wathever it's called XP

  • The first song is Eternity Breath, the second is Stratus :D My bad :P

  • @zildjian5o5 it's a pastiche. i was wondering what the second tune was! first one definitely is mahavishnu 'eternity's breath', i have that album. needs choir tho!

  • Vinnie Colaiuta is my GOD!

  • Even though I believe Beck would be better served if he was a sideman as opposed to being the frontman, I have to say I wish more rock guitarists today had his playful and adventurous spirit, his humour, his fire... It's a shame really.

  • @bradm1975

The problem with Jeff, he'd crack the skull of his headman with his Strat.

Of course, he could not be a headman after that.

And Jeff would be playing jailhouserock.

No hotrods in jail. He would not want that.

  • Why the fuck is the intro the only part of this song on the CD?!

  • Geniales -Jeff Beck demassie...

  • Sweet! Very cool of Beck to pay homage to Mahavishnu.

  • Great stuff from Jeff and the band as Tals sweet smile lights up the stage , after that i dont think there is anywhere else to go to be honest .

  • Looking for these clips from the Ronnie Scott's show, I expected that Beck would be outstanding, and I wasn't disappointed. What I didn't expect were the tremendous performances from the rest of the band members. I'd never heard of them before. But I sure as hell know who they are now. Watching Tal Wilkenfeld is a lot of fun. Her bass lines kick ass, she looks like she's having so much fun, and she is clearly in awe of Beck. Can't blame her.

  • Vinne's drums = too low in the mix.... A Mahavishnu (MKII) and Billy's Red Baron.... nice....

  • Vinne's drums = too low in the mix.

  • Sorry, that isn't Jimmy Page at 3:24.

  • One of the things that makes this whole series so great is you can see them having fun. I just ordered the DVD. I want the vid for Blast From The East. Amazing bass riffs.

  • at 0:47 hes pulling up on something with his right hand, but its not the whammy bar....? Any ideas?

  • @sLevnZelevn from what I can see he's pushing/pulling on the tailpiece.

  • @sLevnZelevn Hes performing vibrato on the bridge (which is floating) by pushing down with his palm.

  • @sLevnZelevn hes trem bar is floating. hes useing his palm to push down on the bar for vibrato

  • y de paso le pega Stratus de Billy Cobhan ... como si fuera nada !

    sin dudas un genio

  • 2:47 brings tears to my eyes!

  • Yeah, that guy at 3:24 is none other than Jimmy Page

  • @stereoview no it is not.. :P

  • @stereoview so I thought it was keith richards thanks for the info

  • @Transperception1 scuse me but how could you mistake Beck for Richards? As Guitarists, Beck has always had that unmistakable Beck sound.

  • @stereoview Bob Plant is there with him.

  • Spectacular! Love the look on the guy's face at 3:24.... he all "how crazy is that?!?!"

  • i would love to see him play slayer with his fingers

    * (dot) = .

  • Wow!

  • What about a MO song and then Stratus of Billy Cobham?????

Awesome, if I was there I would go crazy!!!!

  • Vinnie really overplays with Jeff... But i fucking LOVE IT!

  • How the hell did he make the sound at 3:25? Is that a ring mod?

  • @Rambo29 Yes a Maestro Ring Modulator

  • OK, I'll risk the flames . . . the Ronnie Scott show is fantastic except for 'Eternity's Breath'. They clearly struggle with capturing the 'alternate' time signature in which it was composed. Mercifully, it's a short excerpt and they move on to what is obviously more comfortable turf in 'Stratus'.

Original Mahavishnu version available at: =v4K1VxNg9Bc. In that one you can really feel the pulse.

  • @YouzTube99 FLAAAAAAAMESSSSS! I kid I kid, I think you probably have much bigger ears than me, cause I don't hear them struggling at all.

  • Excellent rendition of the Mahavishnu Orchestra"s materpiece Eternity's Breath.

  • Vinnie and Tal : one million idea per minute.......
