  • For the price of a 1.2 you can get a 1.4 plus a 35mm 1.4.You dont need 1.2.you cant even use it on a broad daylight.

  • stupid comparison...

  • What doe mean whit amazing? the 1.2 isnt even usefull at full speed just like his brother the 85mm 1.2.Both lenses are only usefull at F 2.8..I now what i am talking aboud because i got both off them.Buy the Sigma or if you dont need AF., take the Samyang/Rokinon/Vivitar from Korea.

  • @helthuismartin With all do respect you are either not sing the f1.2L lens correctly or you have a bad copy or you have never used it. The Canon 50mm f1.2L lens is an amazing performer with great centre sharpness even wide open.

  • 1.2 is bigger.

  • the 1.4 is sharper at 5.6 the the 1.2

  • @unamaxify Yes 1.2 and his brother the 85mm 1.2 cannot even be used ate full speed.Canon is very expensive bud not always automaticly the best.

  • @helthuismartin

what do you mean can't be used at full speed ?

whats full speed ? shortest exposure ?

highest ISO setting ? Or are you just pointing out the rather slow auto-focus ?

I don't care whether Canon is the best, their stuff gets the job done. Besides i also use Nikon gear.

I really don't care that much about the price: Pro-camera-gear is always expensive no matter what manufacturer.

  • @helthuismartin Sorry but this does not make sense - I don't think you speak from experience.

  • @inovakovic I had the Canon EF 85mm F 1.2L two times.actualy 3 times ,I had the FD version to.,its the same lens whitout AF.Buy one yourself for 2200euros.,and you will see it cannot be used ate F1.2 ,1.4 and also 1.8..Its razorsharp from F 2.8..Bud again thats is not what it meant to be fore, using it ate F 1.2. Remember the FD version is already 30 years old and has the same optical construction. The Sigma is far more bedder just like the Samyang version.

  • @helthuismartin Hi, Sorry, but I do think you are comparing apples and oranges here. The FD and the L are two different lenses.

  • @unamaxify And only a crazy person would buy f1.2L if they intend to use it above 2.8 most of the time.

  • @inovakovic

well i would no go as far and call a person crazy for stopping down the F1.2 L

but your right why pay the huge premium for a gigantic aperture when you

    don't use it.

  • you find a lot of lens reviews with also Lab test and samples pics at photozone de Bob Atkings did a comparison w all 4, 1.0, 1.2, 1.4, and 1.8. Bottom line is that IQ wise, they are very close to each other, then the build quality, which in the 1.8 is toy-ish, 1.4 standard strong plastics, 1.0 is not made anymore, 1.2 being the cherry on the cake. third is light gathering, quite straight forward. based on that I went for the 1.4 and I'm very happy w it.

  • canon 1.4 is sharper that 1.2... see dpreview or any other site

  • I have gone with the 50mm f1.2..

  • Good job comparing these two... I just posted a clip on 5D Filmmaking with the 50mm f1.4. Check it out if you can. Cheers.

  • you can be a voice over artiest like Robert Powell

  • Really , that your review , how much it weight . You got both lens , and did not show any pictures . You guys are killings me.I need examples , conditions , light, manual ,auto......

  • The fastest is the 50mm 1.0

  • I think if you are just starting out and building your kits for small jobs, the 1.8 and the 1.4 are great on the budget. Thanks for the review!

  • Great voice sound like Robert Powell, thanks for the comparison

  • I think if you want to talk about plastic you should show the f1.8 that one is truly plastic.

  • Hey, if you don't mind, can you do a comparison on the 1.8 and 1.4?

  • Hi,

Not sure. I sold my 50mm f1.4 (the f1.2 L is expensive) and I don't own a f1.8. Will try and see whether I can get my hands on them and will let you know.

  • Quickly put some UV filter on it so the glass stays all clean and nice :D nice lenses!

  • Hi there, Thank you very much for your feedback, much appreaciated.

I will be posting the review of the L this Sunday, do let me know what you think of it.

    Cheers, Igor

  • Can't wait for the 1.2L review. Was just looking into getting that lens. Can you try and go over backfocusing issues and focusing speed (especially in low light conditions) thanks!!

  • Hi there,

I will be posting my review on Youtube and on my site this Sunday. I will cover the issues you mentioned.

    Thx for watching the video.

    Igor
