sure it eases the fingering. but wynton is the most skilled trumpet player alive, im sure playing in b wasnt as much to make it easier on him, as to add the mood change
I'm not saying anything bad about Wynton, but the key change (from Bmaj to Cmaj) eases the fingering on trumpet quite a bit. Give some cred to Eric and Cone for shouting in B this hard.
Wynton Marsalis is absolute dynamite. The section he plays from 7.19 to 7.30 is just amazing. Really picks up the tempo and with such exacting execution. I'm going to see him in Glasgow this saturday and cannot wait. I'm going to see some top class musicians perform at the top of the jazz game
As fantastic as this is, as well as the studio version on "In This House, On This Morning", you ain't heard nothing until you've heard this group's box set "Live At The Village Vanguard". This tune is on disc 7. Check it out!
@Bluesnswing I liked the Vanguard box set too, but there are a few moments in that collection where Wynton pushes beyond the limit of his ability on that given night. As interesting as it is to hear his mistakes, I prefer tuning into the studio recordings where I can hear the composition optimally implemented.

wycliff the man! The hardest thing for a jazz muscian to play is when there is only one chord to play over.
