For those who would like to hear some recent music featuring Ernie Phillips, he is currently singing with Land of the Sky Boys and there is several of the videos posted under that title, posted by Doug Ramage. They sing on a radio station out of Asheville, NC. Enjoy!
I have to agree, the Ernie Phillips era, and Johnny Parrick era cannot be matched. These guys are good, not knocking them, but Jim Hamill's boys were the absolute best, no comparison. I would pay handsomely even today to go see a concert with those guys if they were anywhere near me.
One of the most AWESOME songs in existence, "The Judgement"....I remember the first time I ever heard it on the radio...the last half of it....and ended up in tears....nothing has changed...it still moves me to tears!
About 2 year ago, They came to the church I go to, And I was playing guitar in the back during the break where they sell CD's, And one of the members of the Quartet came in and asked me if I could play "I'll Fly Away". So I grabed the guitar and played along, Then he asked me if I would come up and play guitar with them.
So I played, And I also have a copy of it on DVD :D
I don't know little ernie and shep would have to be talked about in the discussion. Jerry really didn't hit his prime till he went to the Dove brothers.

I happen to have met The Kingsmen back in the 80's and let me tell you Ernie was great. I missed him when he had to leave the group.

I met him at their 50th anniversary concert. I was so nervous I almost puked! he was awesome, and very humble. He's still got it too :)
