  • Cause down in Alabama you can run,, but you sho` can`t hide....

I`m down in Alabama.. Skynyrd made us proud to be Southern.

    Rest In Peace Allen Collins.

  • does anyone know where i can find the mandolin chords for this song? i cant seem to find them anywhere!!! i love this song so much and i cant figure out how in the hell to play it,!

  • @elise49866 I used my harmonicas to figure out the key (It's in E). With that, I could nail down the chords: E, A7, B7. On a mando the E & A7 chords are played on the 2nd fret which allows you to slide the chord down a half-step and back up to match the record. To do it on guitar, use barre chords (with the octave E barred at the 8th fret) for the same reason.

  • @Kedgel thank you so much! i will have a good old time playing it at blissfest this summer!

  • @Kedgel I have always played this song with the chords E, A, and B7.

  • LEGENDS...period...gotta' love me some 'Skynyrd...

  • I'd nearly forgotten this Skynyrd classic! Loved it when I first heard it 35 years ago, love it today!

  • I'm from Mississippi, and I really get a kick out of these comments from people all around the world who relate to Skynyrd. Just goes to show that Southern Rock ain't just fer Southerners..................Rock On, World!!!!

  • Raised up on that cornbread....give me some baby.

  • Dude I think there's more people in lynyrd skynyrd than most small towns....

  • Skynyrd's from Fl., boys and girls.

  • Skynyrd...Georges Steak House. Cape Canaveral Fla. Spring 1972.

My mind has never been the same. Seein them in that club...down south, (I'm from Canada) early in their career was other worldly. Needless to say, they knocked us all on our ass.

  • I am a Mississippi girl...raised up on that cornbread! Skynard boys are all heros around here. And well deserved...they put out some of the best music EVER!

  • @freakiestshayms Amen on the corn bread & Skynard too ha ha!! Mississippi wasn't to kind to me last I was there but it's a damned fine state. Yall got some damned 747 sized skeeters down there now and when I go there they call all their damned cousins in Alabama, Louisiana, Tennessee and Arkansas and tell them to come feast on the North Carolina boy ha ha! Damned skeeters!

  • @BradNC11175 I hear ya Brad...funny, in the summertime...every women's perfume is the fresh scent of deep woods off! Really turns the rednecks on though...lol

  • @freakiestshayms I reckon if your gonna go fishin you gotta have the right bait don't ya? Albeit when women start resorting to the same shit they use to bring in bucks during hunting season I will be a bit worried lol.

  • cause down in bama you can run, ya aint gonna be able ta hide, come-on, you'll get a hillbilly A --- whippin

  • I speak English, does that count?haha Born in key West ,as far South as you can go without speaking spanishLong live Lynyrd Skynyrd

  • I speak English,does that count?haha

  • CaptainDiscount. I'm in complete agreement with you. Screw nationality, or regionality in my case. I'm a half-a-year snowbound Yankee "sledneck" and as the Coen Brothers would say, Ya, ya know we love Skynyrd up her, you betcha. I hope all is good with your Tory-Lib Dem Coalition over there. Now that's a marriage that may require a drin or two.

  • @EmeraldTriangle80 The Coalition sucks. On a lighter note, the weather here is rather warm and humid at the moment and I have been sampling the delights of Mr Whisky on many an evening.

  • Is this homade music? famous words from landlords daughter

  • Awesome.

  • One way or tother!

  • One of my fave Skynyrd songs.

  • You can run but shore cant hide.........you got that right

  • @andymccallum32

There all great my friend :)

  • i just love it when you think you heard it all, after 33or 36 years later you hear some new, and love it. don,t know how i miss it , but i got it now, he- haw. hell ya.

  • i think this goin be my song from now on, he snging about me. i like to pack.

  • this song reminds me of my uncle

  • @ rochville1 ...Per a radio interview with King & Wilkeson pre-'95, at the moment the photographer took the pic he said "COOL!" because of the lightning bolt. And moments after the pic was taken, Gary went to the curb and had to "ralph", aka barf.

  • This has to be one of my All time favorite Skynyrd songs.

  • Re 'third guitarist curse': Gaines & King had the same birthdate. ...Triva: What did the photographer say as this pic was taken, and what did Gary do moments after?

  • @kelvisparsley64 I give up

  • Songs like this confuse me, because most of the members who played during the time of this album were from Florida. Not Alabama or Mississippi. Great song nonetheless.

  • @Anonymous343434 Yes great song. Those boys from Florida recorded their first signed albums in Muscle Shoals AL so they had alot of respect for that area. To generalize, though, all of Skynyrd was proud of the south and what dixie meant to them. So they would often write songs expressing their pride in their southern heritage. Raised on the north shores of Chobee FL myself so I can relate. Interesting side note, research the beginnings of the song Sweet Home Alabama. Enjoy!

  • @pumpkin1292 Good point, secondly, I already know, it's a reference to Neil Young's 'Southern Man' and 'Alabama'. Lastly and somewhat unrelated, I was born in Florida.

  • @Anonymous343434 yessir :)

  • saw them in 1974.Paid 1.50 to get in.A year later, they were blowin the headliners off the stage.Really sux bout that plane crash.

  • Even my grandpa likes this, and he's 83.

  • Yeah!! Give me some baby!!!!

  • does anyone else think the guitar sounds very familiar to son house's death letter? not a bad thing just a notciable one

  • @blackkeychucktown Funny you should mention that man, because I was listening to Death Letter on here and it made me wanna hear this song so I did. lol

  • Comment removed

  • I had a cassette tape of this album made from a record. I only had so much room on the tape and instead of omitting this song, I recorded it in 45 rpm. I haven't heard it at normal speed for 25 years...the 33 rpm version is soooo mellow!

  • This band is great. This is my favorite number by them too. I make everyone listen to it on my stereo when they come over. If you like this one, "New Orleans" by Kid Rock will be good for you too. My company has to hear that one too :)

  • Ya think these guys might have listened to Robert Johnson a bit?

  • That' s The Spirit !

    Regards From Serbia*

  • boys i'm, i'm alabamy bound

  • A very underrated Skynrd song ...thats for posting lyrics

  • the best song ever!

  • one of their best

  • Totally amazing band I seen them in Glasgow way back just before the plane crash. Ronnie Vant Zant drank a bottle of Johnny Walker whiskey will the fans went mental. The best ever. Jim

  • Notice the lightning bolt in the background. RIP Lynyrd Skynyrd Lost but not forgotten.

  • @mapsurfer09 look at the street survivor album cover and see who on fire

  • @michaeldondeo is there a curse on the abum?

  • skynyrd should appear in stain glass windows in churches

  • When it's a horribly humid hot sunny day, all a man needs is some Skynyrd, a comfy chair and a straight whisky on the rocks. I'm English but I think regardless of nationality, that's how a man should relax on a hot day.

  • @CaptainDiscount damn right man, cheers from Morocco !

  • @CaptainDiscount The "day" that you describe describes just about all 100 or so days of the summer season in my part of the world (Southwest corner of Tennessee, USA) ;^)

  • @CaptainDiscount you tha man and i mean that, everybodys got a lil southern man in them

  • @CaptainDiscount English, Hell! You're one of us now, Hoss. ;)

  • @CaptainDiscount My Captain? For those of us who stopped drinking, we'll settle for an RC and a moon pie. Hail Britania.

  • @CaptainDiscount good call

  • @CaptainDiscount Yeah, if you're a porch monkey.

  • @CaptainDiscount
