Joe Pa is a class act all the way. He is what every university looking for a coach should build their model towards. The games my Crimson Tide played with Penn St. in the 80's were what football should be about; hard hitting but with RESPECT for one another. And may I say that the Penn St. fans I've met at games have always been class acts as well. I hope we get to play each other again. Kudos to the PSU tradition!
When JoePa retires, Greg Schiano of Rutgers will be the perfect man for the job:
1. He once coached at Penn State, so he already has some blue and white blood in him.
2. Having coached in the states of Pennsylvania and New Jersey, he knows the hot areas for talent in the two states that have produced a lot of great players who have gone to Penn State.
3. He is in his early-40's.
4. Defense is his forte, and Penn State is "Linebacker U."
6. Greg Schiano has loads of energy on the sidelines, and he is a great motivator.
7. He will likely bring in a new OC, which will give the offense a fresh, new look.
8. He has good head coaching experience.
9. He once coached for the Chicago Bears, so he probably knows the hotbeds for Midwest talent, too. Hopefully, he get some of those players to come a little bit east.

Exactly, Morelli was a really good QB, but nowhere near as good as Robinson so he's had to be in the shadow of Robinson for his entire time at Penn State. Imagine if he would have replaced that piece of crap Matt Senaca or post-injury Zach Mills, he'd have been seen as lightning in a bottle who saved Penn State since he'd have brought us three 9-4 or better seasons.

Hmmm...here's my personal assessment of Jay: I would say that Zack Mills and Michael Robinson exceeded expectations and Anthony Morelli didn't meet expectations. Zack really was a phenomenal quarterback in college..but had shoulder problems later and no receivers to throw to in '03 and '04. Nobody expected MRob to be any good, but he finished 5th in the heisman voting...as a QB coached by Jay!
I think Morelli's blunders were the fault of his own, and he was a good college qb...but thats all.
I agree with HailJoePa. MRob was a great offensive captain...Morelli not so much. Whenever Morelli messed up on a drive he would go and sit on the bench by himself away from the team throwing a pity party. MRob never did that...he always had the attitude of it's never over until it's over. He was always into the game getting everyone pumped win or lose till the last seconds. I think DWill will be a great offensive captain just like MRob to keep the offense in check this season.

As a penn state alumnus, I'm surprised that a lot of you guys think that our football team is ever going to consistently be anything more than a B-level team. We can't beat michigan, we can't help quarterbacks and skill position players improve, and as long as that's the case, our defense will just continue to get worn out by other teams.

daw, I'm an alum as well. Recall that in Penn State's first few years as a Big Ten team, we dominated Michigan (4 out of the first 5 meetings), and won a Big Ten title in our second year. We had a preseason #1 ranking in 1999, but fell apart, and I really think that's when the downward spiral began. The only reason Penn State lost to Michigan in 2005 and 2007 was because we played without any swagger. Once the attitude turns around, so will the team.
Penn State didn't gain anything this year. All we did was lose Alford, Poz, Johnson, Shaw, and Brown to the NFL...lose 3 starters to career ending injuries and lose a starting RB...what a crappy year.

But I agree, I think we win the Big 10 and the BCS national championship, worst case scenario has us beaten by Ohio State, Wisconsin, and Oregon State, but still being a BCS at large team.
Either way, we're beating Michigan 45-0 on homecoming. If we only beat them by two touchdowns or less, it'll still be a moral defeat.

Joe Pa is a class act all the way. He is what every university looking for a coach should build their model towards. The games my Crimson Tide played with Penn St. in the 80's were what football should be about; hard hitting but with RESPECT for one another. And may I say that the Penn St. fans I've met at games have always been class acts as well. I hope we get to play each other again. Kudos to the PSU tradition!

When JoePa retires, Greg Schiano of Rutgers will be the perfect man for the job:
1. He once coached at Penn State, so he already has some blue and white blood in him.
2. Having coached in the states of Pennsylvania and New Jersey, he knows the hot areas for talent in the two states that have produced a lot of great players who have gone to Penn State.
3. He is in his early-40's.
4. Defense is his forte, and Penn State is "Linebacker U."
5. Like JoePa, he is Italian.

I'm gonna have to agree with HailJoePa...its not that Jay is doing a bad job, he's really not! He's just doing an "ok" job. I mean seriously who would've thought M-Rob would be such a good QB. I just think we had too much expectations for Morelli and b/c of his past mistakes the MEDIA has led us to believe he sucks. Morelli isnt actually a bad QB, most of the time - our so called good ass wide outs drop the balls!Anyways M-Rob was by far a better QB though,made better decisions.

Exactly, Morelli was a really good QB, but nowhere near as good as Robinson so he's had to be in the shadow of Robinson for his entire time at Penn State. Imagine if he would have replaced that piece of crap Matt Senaca or post-injury Zach Mills, he'd have been seen as lightning in a bottle who saved Penn State since he'd have brought us three 9-4 or better seasons.

Hmmm...here's my personal assessment of Jay: I would say that Zack Mills and Michael Robinson exceeded expectations and Anthony Morelli didn't meet expectations. Zack really was a phenomenal quarterback in college..but had shoulder problems later and no receivers to throw to in '03 and '04. Nobody expected MRob to be any good, but he finished 5th in the heisman voting...as a QB coached by Jay!
I think Morelli's blunders were the fault of his own, and he was a good college qb...but thats all.

I agree with HailJoePa. MRob was a great offensive captain...Morelli not so much. Whenever Morelli messed up on a drive he would go and sit on the bench by himself away from the team throwing a pity party. MRob never did that...he always had the attitude of it's never over until it's over. He was always into the game getting everyone pumped win or lose till the last seconds. I think DWill will be a great offensive captain just like MRob to keep the offense in check this season.

And then he went undefeated a SECOND year in a row in 1969. (sorry I accidentally hit the post button)**....Cappelletti and an undefeated season. Finally he gets a national title with a one-loss team in 1982. Has ANOTHER undefeated team in 1986 winning ANOTHER national title. Then in 1994, he had one of the best college football teams to EVER take the field. I've even heard ESPN announcers recently call that team the best of the '90s. However, the media felt bad for Nebraska's coach and gave him the title even though we DESTROYED our bowl opponent.

As far as major bowls go, PSU has won all 4, which is something UM can't say.
-Fiesta Bowl: PSU is 6-0. Michigan has never won the Fiesta Bowl.
-Orange Bowl: PSU has won 4 times. UM has won 1 time.
(UM has more Rose Bowl wins, but only because that's historicaly been the Big Ten vs. Pac 10 bowl, and PSU just joined the Big Ten in 1993).

Dude, 94 Penn State vs. Indiana was a big game. Not just Penn State and Indiana fans watched that game...and not to mention that Penn State has the highest number of graduates than any other college in the U.S. No one really cares that much about OSU vs. Michigan except Ohio and Michigan. ESPN had a poll and 73% of the people agreed that OSU vs. Michigan is NOT the greatest rivalry in college football...(which really means that they don't really care).

As a penn state alumnus, I'm surprised that a lot of you guys think that our football team is ever going to consistently be anything more than a B-level team. We can't beat michigan, we can't help quarterbacks and skill position players improve, and as long as that's the case, our defense will just continue to get worn out by other teams.

daw, I'm an alum as well. Recall that in Penn State's first few years as a Big Ten team, we dominated Michigan (4 out of the first 5 meetings), and won a Big Ten title in our second year. We had a preseason #1 ranking in 1999, but fell apart, and I really think that's when the downward spiral began. The only reason Penn State lost to Michigan in 2005 and 2007 was because we played without any swagger. Once the attitude turns around, so will the team.

Penn State didn't gain anything this year. All we did was lose Alford, Poz, Johnson, Shaw, and Brown to the NFL...lose 3 starters to career ending injuries and lose a starting RB...what a crappy year.

Aylafanandre: I'll give you that one. Penn State plays better without Scott than with Scott. We actually started playing better with Kinlaw, Royster, and that second-stringer Carter (who shocked me how good he is for a freshman).

Well despite what I think of his butterfinger tendancies as a football player, I don't think Austin Scott raped that woman. That same woman has been known to falsely accuse people of rape several times.
She's cried wolf enough times that I won't believe her claims until there's real proof. I think the real mistake PSU football players made was the off-campus fight that went on.
