  • Did a number of training sessions for a new peice of kit onboard a number of Royal Navy warships a couple of years back and without doubt the best ship I worked with over the whole period was this one. Very sad to see She's out of service.

  • Fuck me. You could waterski behind that.

  • A small country but a BIG attitude ... can do & will do ... Very Proud to be BRITISH ..

  • I want the fighting G back please Mr Cameron

  • it saved the uss misouri

  • proud to say i am officially the last marnier seaman speciallist to steer that ship at her full speed and to raise the ensign for the last time

  • @pistonfire182 Maybe a daft question from a land lover....but why is it not flying the British ensign?

  • Love the sound of those gas turbines

  • Just looked at some images of HMS Sheffield & Coventry that went to fight in the war against Argentina; This class has changed quite a bit .

  • Best of luck to Gloucester and the Royal Navy. Have they started building the new carriers yet? The sooner those ships are in operation, the better.

  • Damn those are beautiful ships...is this the same Gloucester that saved USS Missouri from an Iraqi missile in the '91 war?

  • Yep, same one - commissioned in '85 and still serving.

  • I served on this ship and know the chap that spotted the missile that saved the Missouri , and what a nice chap at that . This is the best ship in the RN to serve on . I went to former yugoslavia during the conflift on this ship , brilliant ships company as well.

  • ye it is

  • @matapan50 yes - it used a sea dart to shot down Silkworm missile, very proud.

  • There's also no argument that the Type 42's are faster.... two Olympus and two Tyne engines produce a lot of horses, a lot more than the 23's... but then a 42 is for air defence; a 23 is a sub hunter and needs to be quiet... there are few things noisier on the oggin than a 42 at full speed.

  • Knew one bloke on the Gloucester... one LMEM Templeton (eyes in both watches, once seen never forgotten) who I got blind drunk with in Pompey... well, I got blind drunk... he was just getting started when I fell over... and I served on Richmond... it was my last ship in the Navy, and it was the best.

  • what do you know m8, i worked on these ships. excellent powerful deadly work horses

  • really !!!

  • you dont know much about ships do you?

  • Well me hearty this ship has the same type of engines as concord, It 4.5 Vickers mk8 gun will fire a shell over 20 miles and hit a object the size of a car from that range, It's sea dart will down the fast jets at all levels it will and has take out incomeing missiles i know i was on this ship when it took out silkworm Missiles in GW1.Then the Plalanx CIW will fire at 3000 rpm Its. Stingray torpedoes for anti nuc sub hunting makes it on hell of a warship. This was my ship,

  • You're idiotic. Or American. Same thing.

  • @hew35s, That comment is offensive to say the least, you get just as many arrogant Brits on YT as Yanks!

  • Grow up mate !! . Your the type of person who's never served in the forces and never will . I have served in the RN and very proud of it as well , the best navy in the world !!!!!!!
