They dropped the gimmick because Paul Burchill was portraying a Jack Sparrow type of pirate--which couldn't have been done at a better time due to the popularity of Dead Man's Chest in 2005.

But because Vince had no idea what Pirates of the Caribbean even was....he didn't know what the in hell Burchill was doing acting so aloof....and pulled the plug.

Even though Burchill himself wasn't a fan, there is no denying that he did a good portrayal and was super over with the audience.

To be honest, this was one of the more entertaining gimmicks. I don't really get why so many people hate on this one, at least it was fairly original, and the rope swinging bit instead of pyro made it stand out. I've nothing against Paul Burchill. In fact, in British wrestling, he had a believeable, 'real life' badass persona. No, it wouldn't have made him a main eventer in WWE, but it might have made him a respectable, mid card performer. This gimmick was always destined to end up in OVW/unemployment. I blame WWE, not Burchill.
