Wow! Silat is another martial art that I would LOVE to learn more of. I was introduced to it a few years back and would love to get back into a class-like setting when I can find the time. Unfortunately, no one in Alaska teach this. :(

the origin history of silat in Indonesia..

it use to kill a Netherlands army when colonize Indonesian since 16 century.

but now it was an art..

a martial art.

the first "silat" called "SILEK" in minangkabau (the true origin of silat)

it was found in 5 century.

@udina100 Silat was founded way before the 5th century...it is not only used at the colonial era but way before Melaka, majapahit, srivijaya or even champa empire...there were no indonesia, malaysia, brunei, singapore, phillipine or thailand yet...it just us the people Nusantara...this art is belong to all the ppl of Nusantara...we came from the same root...Word like Indonesian, Malaysian, Phillipinos and alike would only make us look small...if we open our heart we are actually one big family..

All Martial Arts are the similar in nature, all martial arts are strong and weak, the strength from ANY martial arts comes from the person fighting.

A person that practices Silat just as intense as someone that practices karate would be an equal match, so long as there skills are on par, ask any dojo master.

@Couplemate The only exception to the rule here would be Krav Maga,as it is neither an art or a sport but a very brutal and thoroughly effective way of defending yourself agaist any kind of attack.Now I'm not knocking any martial arts or K.M. for that matter just giving my opinion

The Guru-Master demonstrating is of a high level in martial arts-overall. That is clear. It does someone critisizing no honor to say such things. Okinawans and Japanese-Karateka tend to be very honor orientated. Please do not dishonor your teachers, art, other cultures! I guess the teacher critisized can get over insults- pray he can! Great demonstration. Superb Martial Arts, Well done. Please lets keep it clean and do not slander. Lastly, spelling and grammer are not in issue-martial arts are.
