  • Nice video man.. But i'd really like to see this video with decent sound.. can you please make another video of this with an instrument mic?? Thanks in advance :-)

  • what a shitty comparison... how can you compare two amps by running them through two differnet cabs? thats like comaring a ford mustang with a bmw m3 by one driving schumacher and the other driving paris hilton...

  • Engl Blackmore for sure, powerball is lacking in mids.

  • Blackmore.

  • I just cant afford anything from ENGL :( i would love to have a powerball head but it's too expensive.

  • Imo, the blackmore sounds better and fatter. It sounds like a savage. The powerball lacks mids.

  • ENGL Invader owns all!!!! :D

  • Strange comparison with different cabs :)

The standard cab sounds much worse than the V30 cab

But both amps are good. I would see the Powerball more new metal, but also the Blackmore can do damned high gain. I have a Blackmore 100 and a Blackmore 150 and both are killer! :)

  • Abbath from immortal plays through a engl blackmore. That makes it the baddest amp in the world.

  • @deicidalmaniac Correction: he moved to the powerball :(

  • @Waaop Thank you for the correction!

  • @deicidalmaniac he uses the powerball as well ;)

  • Hey, nice compare I have nothing to say. But it's not fair to Blackmore cuz you used other Cabinets.... I think that Powerball's has V30 and Blackmore's V60 and everyone knows that V30 are... ultimate? :D that's what I noticed.

btw liked this video very much :))

  • Hey Dude, could you do a demo of the Blackmore head through the Pro cab instead of the Standard cab...I'd be interested to hear the difference. Thanks and STAY METAL \m/

  • Hey all IDIOTS that are like "Yeah, the Blackmore was TOO SHARP :'( "

He used an ALOT better cabinet with the Powerball.

    V60 Speakers: SHARP and cheap

V30 Speaker: Round bass and HIGH quality, a little more expensive.

[[THE CABINETS ARE RESPONSABLE FOR BASS, NOT THE AMP!]]

Lesson to YOU GUYS for life!

  • @GameKid98 I thought the Blackmore sounded better. Fuck the noobs, and let them have shit tone. They'll figure it out.

  • @GameKid98 GOJ! du må ikke glemme at bassen er STRAM også :D

  • gotta say the blackmore sounds like it would cut through the mix alot more in a band situation but I'm still a marshall guy

  • Both sound very good but...... Powerball of course!!!

  • Hey XXXjesterXXX,

I did buy the Savage and love it however, I really would like to buy the Blackmore too...tell me, for modern metal (think Dream Evil, HammerFall) would you recommend the standard cab V60s or the pro V30s cab?

  • If he likes the amp and he as the money for it, why shouldn't he buy it ??? nice dude!! I'm just 15 and I'm thinking about buying a engl powerball 2 ... are those good and does someone knows which engl amps are best for metal?

  • @KidVegotenks metal? fireball 60 or fireball 100 will blow your brains with their metal sound. the powerball is good as well but i think its not as brutal.. and more versatile

  • hi, the gain looks like it's on full on the blackmore in this vid, is it?

and is the powerball/fireball actually more mid-scooped? a couple of friends of mine are buying the blackmore, and I've been thinking about it as well. but I wanted to try the fireball and check if I might like it better. the powerball is out of the question i think, too expensive. the blackmore would probably be more versatile then the fireball, but which one should i get if i like to play melodic death with enough mids?

  • pff...boring riffs...the same thing everytime....play some blues dude or a crunch hard rock....the metal is good but dont play only metal :P peace^^

  • Powerball has l more options but I love the blackmore sound ^^!

    Great gtr playing btw!

  • Hey XXXjesterXXX, I'm thinking of buying the Blackmore...for some reason I keep coming back to it. I have a Fireball that I'm thinking of selling to help me pay for it. I love the Fireball however, I find that it's too metal (compressed) for my liking and prefer a more open and liquid metal tone. Especially as I do plenty of legato (think Dave Murray from Maiden) in my lead work.

I keep watching this vid and can't help but be drawn to the Balckmore head. Stay Metal DUDE...\m/

  • man..the blackmore sounds so sexy it makes the powerball sound like a toy amp.

  • @tonyking 1. Have you ever compared these two amps in a REAL situation? Have you played these amps in a band-context? Do you make your opinion on sounds only via youtube-videos?

    2. If you call yourself a serious musician, you shurely know that not only the sound of an amp matters - the response (or call it feeling) is a very important point, too. You know that, don't you?!?

  • @XXXjesterXXX The Blackmore has a better tone. The powerball would fit metal better, where th Blackmore would be a great rock amp.

  • @tonyking and by the way... do you know, what i payed for the amp??? Yes??? Wow - how did you do that???

  • @tonyking well, if you are able to buy an engl blackmore, to do a review&to play as good as him than do it or just keep quite.

  • @tonyking wow you must be the dumbest expert ever...

  • @tonyking i just bought a 2500 randall RM100KH it sounded like shit ( i am a big fan of metallica but it was really shit!) now im gonna buy the powerball 2 much better and cheaper!

  • @tonyking

another jealous cunt who can't afford good gear so he tries to take his anger out on everyone else. HA.

  • Comment removed

  • @zajac1661 completely irrelevant comments

  • @tonyking You see these pointless comments so much recently. Jealous poor people usually. Why do you care what others spend their money on?

  • Not a big fan of the tone of either which is sad since I know how good the Powerball can sound, hence me buying it today

  • you must compare it with the same speakers!

  • any engl amp is good. i do prefer the poer ball though. probly cause its the only one ive heard in person

  • i think the blackmore would be more suited for my taste

  • lmao just kidding

  • 1:25 sick riff!!! great melody!

  • Comment removed

  • it sound a bit like bullet for my valentine or?

  • yes I do!!!

  • @XXXjesterXXX

Hey dude, did you not consider the Savage 120??

I'm thinking about buying either the Blackmore or the Savage but undecided...the Savage is much more expensive however, I love 6550 valves and concerned that the gain in the Blackmore, altough plentiful, may not match the Savage.

    Still, thanks for the vids

  • Hi VanAlien!

The Savage 120 were my second choice, but - as you already said - it was and is too expensive for me. The Savage delivers a more compressed gain - in a positive meaning. I think it sounds a little bit creamier. I found out, that it is very important, to let the speakers of a new Cab break in. When I bought my Blackmore with a new V60, it sounded way more harsh. After a few weeks the sound got much "rounder". I tested my amp with another (new) Cab and the gain was harsh again!

  • Thanks for the comment...even at conversation volumes, does the Blackmore still sound heavy or does it sound thin. I use to own the Savage and even when my kids were asleep it sounded awesome at low volumes...does the Blackmore do that too?

    Thanks

  • Yes, it sounds good even at low volumes, cause the Blackmore (and many other "modern" amps) is not very depedent (on? from? of? grrrr... english grammar... ;-) it's tube saturation. However, I would consider using a modeling device at home.

  • Hi XXXjesterXXX,

I bought my new Savage today and really excited. After saving up for what seemed forever, I finally got it and at a reasonable price.

    Sounds, looks and feels awesome...

  • Congratulations! You'll have much fun with it!

  • @5150VanAlien What type of lead tone do you get on the Savage? could you demo it?

    thanks, TokiTheSlayer.

  • @TokiTheSlayer I haven't uploaded anything yet but search youtube under the savage and there's several demos on its lead channel. Hope this helps.

  • The Blackmore amp should have a setting where it is a dick to the audience and shuts down and skulks offstage

  • lol> That was good

  • @deepsussex Thankfully it doesn't and that's why it was made in Germany...reliable and full of quality.

  • @deepsussex

    LOL

    Blackmore is a genius douchebag

  • Way more Crunch in the Blackmore.... Powerball's too shrill....

  • the mic just dont do any of these heads justice. also themic placement of his camera alters the sound ALOT

  • Its amazing ! In this vid the powerball is just destructed by Blackmore ! Far better sound though the powerball is being played through a better Box !!!

  • powerball... yummy!!

  • 3:45 oceana?

  • I'm going for the Fireball.. Tried all of them out, and liked the Fireball's tone the most. In this vid, I think the Blackmore is better, just like I thought when testing them out myself.

  • what would be a good cab to go with a powerball?

i'm on a pretty tight budget, but i don't want complete shit

  • All my vids use Powerball, check em out!!

  • What should I buy? Engl Powerball, peavey 6505 + or Hughes&Kettner Triamp MKII?

  • a Engl Blackmore ;-)

  • evh amp.....

  • I got the EVH III that is the best amp you can get for that price

  • is it good for metal?

  • Dude!!! IS it good for metal you say??? Just listen...isn't that enough for metal???

Trust me, the Blackmore head is more than enough for metal....

  • lol, i was talking about the EVH III..........i was wondering since EVH himself designed the peavey 5150 back in the 90s

i was wondering if the new EVH III was good for metal.......

  • It is perfect for Metal!!! But the reason why I bought the EVH III is because he has the best clean channel of all the metal amps. Maybe you won't play the rest of your life metal...

  • It's pretty good, but I tried many ENGL heads and I can tell you that the fireball 100 is way better than the blackmore for playing metal

  • Mister... we're talking about ENGL here.

  • wowowow STOP you cant compare it like this, speakers make a HUGE difference.

  • There's probably the same Celestion V60's in eighter cabs.

  • Yeh, pretty pointless!!

  • ENGL Fireball or ENGL Blackmore?

  • Blackmore!

  • Fireball is 60W (though they got a 100W head out now) . The RB has EL34 tubes, has a blend of Marshalish tone in it but more solid than the Marshall. The Fireball has 6L6 tubes , I recon a bit more bottom end on it.

I got the RB and I sugest it . Best is to try for your self though and decide what you need more.

  • Comment removed

  • The Blackmore is a 5881 powered head not an EL34 head

  • Ooopss yes you are right. I will remove my comment. Thanks for pointing that out.

  • Powerball is way darker sounding, lot more bottom end. The Blackmore has a lot stronger midsection with just enough upper mids to make it cut through. Blackmore wins imo.

  • powerball sounds darker, blackmore got a great character...

    fucking awesome amps!!!

  • I appreciate the comparison, but why use two different cabs? It seems like a better way to compare would be to use the same mic position and the same cab, but only switch amps.

  • im sad beacause i sold my blackmore... *schnüff*

  • Blackmore sounds awesome... nothing against power ball.. but i prefer blackmore.. im saving my money for it :D

  • I think Blackmore has got more ballsy sound than powerball... both sound great though

  • Can't knock the Blackmore, it doesn't get the credit it deserves. I've got the Fireball and looking at possibly getting the Blackmore as it offers more versatility.

Considering the Engl standard cab was used first and the Pro cab on the Powerball will also make a difference on the tone.

    Thanks for the video...

  • whats name of the song that plays at 1:23? i know ive heard that riff somewhere. but i cant remember what its called.

  • that's not a riff from as i lay dying ?

  • Sounds similar to 'Say Goodbye' by 'I Killed The Prom Queen'

    Not identical but meh.

  • the blackmore's got more balls!

  • Hm the powerball somehow sounds more brutal.

But then the blackmore sounds more organic. I guess I'd prefer the blackmore for my style of music.

Too bad they are connected to different cabs the comparison would be far more useful otherwise.

  • theres a pretty simple mod to make you're powerball cleaner...

put a 5751 preamp tube in V1 of your powerball and prepare for a trip to clarityville!

The powerball's huge compression doesn't help either, but with the 5751 it really opens her up! You loose the fizzy gain, but keep the crunch, but gain some upper midrange

  • what brand 5751 would you recommend that isnt that expensive. I have a Marshall JVM and its pretty buzzy and i want to smoothin it out. any suggestions?

  • i went for the Jan Phillips in the end... tried a Groove Tubes, but the Phillips rounded my amp off better.

  • ey men what settings are you using there ?

    tell me please

  • in the powerball

  • Powerball!!!!!

  • i'm pretty sure there was more than one riff in there :D

  • ive got a powerball and this cam mic really doesnt do it any justice, so its a tough compare! plus your settings are miles different to mine!

  • I believe the Blackmore sounds cleaner due to the 5881's and probably different inner circuitry. I'd prefer the Blackmore as it sounds clearer.

Also, in this take, the Powerball runs through the pro cab with V30's and that will sound different anyway.

  • The Engl's sound like a cleaner and sharper version of the peavey 6505

  • power ball. its more tight and less harsh sounding

  • in this video it's the blackmore

but i really think the powerball is better

  • Between these two?

    The blackmore.

  • Nice I like the shocking octaves riffing...

Damn you got the right hand down, I tend to lean that way also......hehe

    Thanks for this!

  • which song with Despiced Icon ?

  • at first it sounds like Despiced Icon

  • can someone tell me the name of this songs?

  • someone can tell me the songs, he is playing?

  • every engl amp ROCKS! i have the screamer combo, i know it is "only 50 watts", but it gets pretty loud! (tube amp, hehe)

  • not many people need a 100w, but they buy one- if u play at home mostly, n jam with friends once n a while- ur NEVER going to use the full capability of the amp. and they sound best when at the higher end of their volume range- so ur better off getting a lower watttage, or getting ur amp modded with a 1/2 watt switch

  • ill go for the invader

  • In this vid I like the blackmore seems more upfront sounding which translate too brutality. The powerball is distant sounding maybe it wasn't recorded as loud. I want to like the powerball seems more versatile but the blackmore is getting attention! I'd like to hear some inbetween gain sounds to see if they are good at that tone like hendrix strat on rhythm pickup playing voodoo child or anything alike. But amazing amps no doubt at thrash or metalish saturation.

  • Every time i got to guitar stores i always plug into ENGLs. Love em but couldnt be fucked saving for one. LOl wen I get a job i will.

  • you can hear that the powerball has more low end,a tighter low end, and more punch and agressiveness overall. I like the powerball over the blackmore though. the fireball is a completely different amp. the fireball is modeled after the old savage60, whilst the powerball is a souped up version of the savage120, with a totaly new internal schematic. the SE is best of all the engls so far. can get ALL the ENGL sounds. the powerball, savages series, fireball, blackmore, all in 1 package.

  • the powerball is not based off the savage 120, the blackmore is.

  • Hey what song is this? I own the blackmore, i think it slays the powerball, the tone is SO MUCH richer!

  • ok powerball, blackmore, screamer ect. engl amps make peoples head explode, dey one of the best metal amps .

  • Irgendwie klingt das alles nach Blech. (Ist ja Geschmackssache). Jedoch gefällt mir der Blckmoore besser, wenner richtig eingestellt ist.

  • They both sound great. But more metal player abroad use the powerball over the blaackmore.

  • i think the sound of blackmore is better

  • actually blackmore sounds way better in this vid. but i really like the powerball better:P

but if you want really high gain go for the engl fireball:P

Most people say it sounds like the powerball, but it really doesn't:P

i also think much of the difference in this vid is due to speakers:P

    nice vid:P

  • Yeah, I love the fireball...but it's only 60 watts and both channels share the same knobs... so you can't tweak each channels tone which sucks in my opinion

  • Way better? I think it's just different. Powerball is more for low tuning in my opinion. Blackmore is more versatile and it has great crunch...

  • Powerball is obviously more compressed sounding. I'd be happy with either. :D

  • I prefer the Blackmore, thanks for the vid

  • Sounds like Staubsauger

  • xD xD xD ... der war gut :D

  • i like the Blackmoore, darker and richer in this vid. maybe the cam.

  • powerball sound better!

  • I like the blackmore better in this video

  • Kein Newbie... Amp für 'Trash'... Nee - is klar!

  • Powerball kicks ass!

  • Pls give us a song a little bit least noisy.. oh god this world is lost..

  • Less treble moar midz!!!!!!

  • guitar is mostly mids.

  • A bit buzzy, try to mix the gain.

  • i think both sound a buzzy mess, you would get buried in a mix wih either of those tones. very solid state sounding and just not what I like in an amp at all.

  • They dont sound like that in real life, or when recorded correctly.

  • Both are great amps but I am gonna have to vote for the Powerball! Nice video and playing.

  • I'd love to hear them together :)

Wall of sound! ENGL amps add a lot of definition and attack to multi-amp setups. I think these two would sound good together.

  • the powerball is much better than the blackmore signature

  • hum, actually, no. both are great ... powerball is dedicated to death/black metal whereas blackmore is more rock ...nevertheless, both are great but i think the blackmore is more polyvalent (i'm gonna buy one i think)

  • lol.. what's the point in comparing two amps with different cabs

  • Cranked highs??? The treble knob points at 11o'clock, Mids at 1 o'clock my friend!

  • If I had the cams mic on axxis, the sound would have too many highs. Check out my other videos! You will find a miked recording with EXACTLY the same amp settings (and a link to a high-quality sample). By the way - the Blackmore has LOADS of mids - especially compared with a Powerball and most of the other hi-gainers!

  • and solid states can't even compare with tube amps.try to record something with both versions...you will see what i'm talking about.adio

  • i dunno msn, i et some pretty well defined, heavy tones with my SS amp, pretty loud for an SS amp, too, drown everything out at 3, run it at about 4 for shows and piss off the sound guys haha...there are exceptions to all rules, some tube amps sound amazing, some sound like ass, some SS amps sound zing, and some sound awful

  • :D:D:D

    add some scooped mids?

i can see what your reherseal sounds like.you probably can't hear yourself play.this middle punch is what engl is famous for.middle frequencies are what should be top priority on a guitar mixed with the band.you have a wrong conception of what you should sound like in a band...

  • jesus who lets you people comment here? engl sounds weak? buy a pair of ears...it's a shitty webcam, all the lows from the amp are eaten in the recording.those amps rock.engl is THE SHIT!

  • noway, powerball rulezzzz

  • Nice comparison man, cool riffae too.

The Blackmore sounds a lot tighter in the low end, I like it even though I'm not a fan of the ENGL sound.

  • How can you tell if its a Powerball V1 or a V2????

  • i'd like to buy an engl in 2 month and i'm thinking about fireball, powerball and blackmore. what do you recommend for Slayer and Megadeth? thanks a lot. Pete

  • POWERBALL. (Notice the little period I placed after the word "POWERBALL", well that stands for "PERIOD"!)It'll cover all your needs from rock to doom metal!

  • Yeah, you should probably go for the Powerball. It really is the best of the three. I mean, if Jeff Loomis uses it...

  • wonder what the head would sound like on a 1974 kustom bass cab?

  • Dear sweet Jesus, both amps sound amazing (YouTube's fantastic compression is being overlooked in saying this as even with the YouTube working it's magic they still sound decent.) Gonna have to go with the powerball though. The low end + the clarity you got when playing those chords was awesome.

  • You have to keep in mind that different cabs/speakers are used for each amp. The Blackmore was played through V60s and the Powerball V30s. This will make a massive difference to the sound/clarity/equalization.

I think most of the differences you described are due to the different speakers than the actual amps' voicing.

  • Lol, fair enough. Guess I'm going with a Powerball cab then, haha.

  • Wow, I just can't get enough of the first riff... really brutal. Where's it from?
