  • when im 18 im moving to vegas but not for the reason people think. i love the dessert and the history of the place. i hate gambling and drinking and partying but i love the feeling of waking up in the hot summer air at 3am in the quiet and looking down to see the blazing lights of the fantastic city...but....the history's vanished...tropicana and new frontier and stardust....3 historical buildings that have been wiped from the face of the earth -.-'

  • This is the reason that the USA will never have History. When a Building gets to be over 50 Years Old.... We Implode it!

  • This is the best implosion video yet that I've seen with all the fireworks. It's probably a sad event for the people who grew up there or visited years ago.

  • Im glad las vegas isn't that old of a city, id hate to see casinos that were used in like the 20's and stuff being blown up because the architecture of buildings in the late 1800s and early 1900's was beautiful.

  • I used to stay there a lot when i was a kid... Vegas just isn't the same anymore... The whole city center is such a waste of money. Anyone remember when the coke museum was like a legit tour? And they had the floor where you could have all the fucking soda you wanted? Yeah i miss that...

  • I like some of the newer hotels in Las Vegas. I loved the old Las Vegas but I never found hotels at the north end of the strip that appealing. Excluding the Sahara, of course.

  • Even though the Stardust hotel was running for over 45 years, the hotel's a legend and the Echelon won't last even close to that long. :P

  • WHY was the Stardust hotel closed? They had a great staff, great service, a lucky casino, great food, and an amazing wedding chapel. They shouldn't have closed it. :(

  • The Stardust was a great place to stay. Such a friendly staff over the years. We had stayed there several times over the years , spent our honeymoon there.Back in 1974 , back then the hotels in Vegas would not take saturday arivals. I wrote to the Stardust told them we wanted to honeymoon there , they said yes. At the time I beleave the Stardust was the largest hotel anywhere.We stayed there a year before it was torn down. Stayed there for our annivesary. Sad to see it go.

  • so sad, I stayed at this hotel the first time that I visited vegas. It was magnificent, even then when I visited only a month before this video was shot!  I love "old vegas", I loved the stardust, and this video almost made me cry!

  • I always loved listening to the Stardust Line on KDWN. It was a great sports show. Sunday nights were so enjoyable. The Stardust was an excellent hotel/casino. R.i.P!!

  • I used to work as a waiter at stardust so this is kind of sad to see. I made some really great friends during my time working there, and absolutely loved the stories from the old timers about how things were when the mafia ran the stardust. It's especially sad because what boyd imploded it for will more than likely come to fruition, that being the echelon project. According to local economists they doubt boyd will ever go through with echelon because las vegas hotels are half empty anyways.

  • In my opinion, It's obvious that alot of the people who attended the Implosion were not natives of Vegas or haven't been here very long because that Implosion among all the rest in the past is a sign of Vegas history vanishing before our eyes and I loved the old Vegas....Every hotel on the strip now looks almost exactly the same, how boring!!! At least the old hotels had individual character and style!!!

  • It is a shame that the old hotel/casinos have to go, as many of them did have unique character. Of course nothing lasts forever. Like everything else in Vegas, it's all about money. When the old casinos are no longer as profitable as they used to be, they will be replaced. It is kind of sad to see them go. However I don't agree that the "new" places all look the same. You can't tell me that New York-New York looks like the Luxor?

  • @VivaToddVegas I"m not telling you that but what about all the " Y " shaped hotels like Treasure Island, Mirage, Veniten, palazzo and Mandalay Bay.....They are all shaped the same! The Sands and the Landmark had unique arcitucture. I do feel New York-New York and the Luxor are unique in their own way!

    So true! And I remember a time when Men had to wear jackets in the casinos after dark...Not anymore. Lot's of shorts & T-shirts 24/7...Too bad IMHO!

  • @MrJbatemon I totally agree, but back in the day all the casinos were individually owned. Now, 90% of the new casinos are owed by MGM and Harrah's, forming a monopoly within Las vegas.... Gotta Love Corporate America....

    Which is why las vegas is failing miserably atm. The corporations are subsidizing their losing profits , aka city center, with other mgm casinos. Therefore people not even working in the city center are getting laid off due to what a colossal failure the project is.

  • @MrJbatemon I couldn't agree more. Even though I am not a native of Las Vegas... I DESPERATELY want to move there. I'm Canadian born, but my heart has always been somewhere in the deserts of Nevada, for some reason. I could have cried at this. This was Frank Sinatra's hot spot when he came to Las Vegas. This was his favorite hotel on the strip! GONE. Gone for what? Even though I don't agree that the new hotels are boring, I don't think it's necessary to blow the old ones out the window.

  • Loved the hotel but was glad to see it go, time to mover forward in stead of staying in the past. I hope they do circus circus next and build a better one I think that place is a dive. Dont care if you disagree with me I have my own opinion.

  • Yeah, good job....where's the "upgraded" hotel that's supposed to be in it's place now? If I'm not mistaken, the Echelon project is pretty much on hold thanks to this economy....so this video is very sad, and this was a huge waste.

  • Shame to see a legendary hotel go...but I gotta admit, that was an awesome sendoff. Those numbers were a very nice touch.

  • I still have a closing team pass badge. I was there to load-up the trucks of all the stuff to be sold or auctioned off. Very sad to see the Stardust go. Bring back the Mafia...at least they would clean up the scum that is coming to town now...But corporate Las Vegas don't give a damn!!

  • Vegas is a mere ghost of it's old days. Fricken kids everywhere and Disneyland attractions all over the place. Yuck! My late father Bill Rogers was the arranger and concuctor of the Frank Sinatra Orchestra and the Frank Sinatra Jr. Orchestra. He also did the Jerry Lewis Telethon arrangements for 20 years. He wrote for scores of people in Vegas including the Rat Pack guys and was a monster in his field. R.I.P. Dad. :) Bring back the MOB days when a musician could at least make a living there.

  • -Because the Stardust was a old hotel and was built in 1948. We need to updated / upgrade our hotels every now and then.

  • Wow. That was such a strange sad thing to watch. It's so odd that they made it into such a spectacle like the 4th of July or something... This might seem a little extreme, but I felt like I was about to witness an execution.  I'm just very into preserving history...and these cheering people are obviously in a completely different headspace...to the point that I can't even understand how they could react that way to such a sad event.

  • I think a lot of people (including me) have mixed feelings when an old building comes down here. It's sad to see something familiar disappear, but at the same time it makes space for newer (and hopefully better) hotels. The building was coming down, whether the crowd watched or not. It was already closed, and stood empty. The employees and patrons that made the place live and breathe were already gone. It was just an empty shell. I think the crowd enjoyed the spectacle, not the closing.

  • Not as good as a Fred Dibnah demolition job, he would have demolished it without explosives, or bulldozer, and when it fell, he would have sounded his famous claxon. Fred was THE man, famous steeplejack from Bolton England.....Bolton is the english equivalent of Las Vegas...

  • You are certainly entitled to your opinion. There are many people who have problems with gambling. There are also many more people who have no problem using it as a safe, fun form of entertainment. It's all about moderation.

  • They are celebrating the spectacle that was put on by the demolition company, and the move towards the future that the demolition of the Stardust will pave the way for. The north end of the Strip is in need of an overhaul, and replacing the Stardust is a step in that direction. We will miss the Stardust, but time marches forward.

  • I stayed at the Riviera this past Christmas, and I had a really good time there. They have great slot promotions!

  • I stayed there during the NBA all star game and it was terrible. the dealers are rude, and there is always a guy next to check in that try to sell me something and wont leave me alone.. the bell service took 25 minutes to get me my bag and the guy was telling me how he got waisted the night before.. the walls are paper thin and we heard the couple next door having sex all night long, reminded me of a chevy chase movie from the 80's.. demolition crew ASAP

  • Wow, that's such a different experience than I had this past Christmas. I didn't play any table games, so I can't comment on the dealers. I didn't use the bellhop service either, so I can't comment. Nobody tried to sell me anything. I didn't hear other guests through the walls. The people that ran the slot tournaments were friendly, as were the ladies who operated the "free gift" area. We had a good time! I guess the experience at the Riviera can vary greatly.

  • I forgot to add that I heard many businesses all over town were caught unprepared for the volume of guests they received during the All Star Game. The news here was reporting that things were very chaotic that weekend.

  • ohh yeah.. 1st there was the southwest airlines fiasco, people were stranded in the aiport because they over booked 80% of their flights, you could try for an hour to find a table game on the strip!. I will say that about the riviera, when we called security about the noise from the other room, they came right away and asked them to be quiet.. its just a really old hotel and really out dated.. I will be in vegas tomorrow for the weekend, will try the golden nugget

  • I was there too during the NBA-Allstar fiasco. I dont mean to be racist, but there were ghetto broke black people from all over the country there, all of Compton and Inglewood was there. But what is to be expected?

  • The first time I stayed at the Stardust in 2000, I thought the room was outstanding. We stayed on the 27 floor and had a panoramic view of the strip and the surrounding mountains to the south and east. It was Vegas at its best and only $50/night for a top-notch room!!

  • I stayed in Stardust in 2000 too on my first visit to Vegas. Thought was fantastic hotel and still have room key somewhere

  • I have a lot of memories of the Stardust. I made a lot of money playing certain machines there that were malfunctioning. That was back in 1999-2004. Now, it's all gone with the wind. Too bad.

  • If you liked the Stardust, your family might try the Riviera next time. It's somewhat similar, it's on the same relative end of the strip, and it's about the same price.

    If you like a lot of kid-based fun, Circus Circus is supposed to deliver, since it has it's own indoor amusement park. In the higher price range, the Luxor has some excellent entertainment for someone your age, including iMax movies and simulator rides.

  • I was sad to see it go as well, but the next one will probably be amazing. At least downtown preserves some of old Vegas. As for my user name... it wasn't the one I wanted, but I like it now. It's cheesy and over-the-top, just like me! ;)

    I can good remeber to the Sturdust, the first time how i was (nearly 16 Years ago) in Vegas we lived in the Stardust and in the last year i was at the last day as that the casino was open inside of it 8)

    Las Vegas is amazing, i doesn't like, i love it :D

  • Yeah, there were a ton of spotlights, but for some reason they turned them all off right before the building imploded. I guess they thought the charges would make more visible flame.

  • Excellent coverage, more clear and up close than the local news. The sounds were fantastic. We were there, but sleeping in the Mirage, had to fly out at 8:00 am. Thanks for the show!

  • I was kind of worried at first because so many people said it wasn't good. But we stayed in the West tower and it great. There weren't TOO many kids running around. Of course that didn't bother me anyways, we weren't at the hotel that often. It was kind of far from the rest, but not a big deal at all with the buses.

  • yah i was there last night. It was AWESOME! the entire show was great. It's always sad seeing a hotel go since so many people worked there for years and happy family and friends visited the hotel and people got married, it's sad to see it go, but the new hotel from the Wynn is going to look REALLY nice

  • Yeah... they had plenty of spotlights, but they turned them off right when they imploded the building. Guess they thought the actual explosives would give off as much light as the fireworks. They were wrong. ;(
