  • His guitar is slightly out of tune.

  • Love this song, too bad this is not really a lesson and all the supposed lessons on here for this song suck. The one guy that obviously knows how to play it and Guitar World could not get him to really explain what he is doing. Even at the slowed down part it is hard to tell for sure the pattern he is using. No wonder so many different videos and tabs have people guessing it thousands of different ways.

  • @comeonman1100 perhaps you should look into what Travis style means.

  • hey, does anyone know the tuning he's using?

  • He is definitely tuned down 1/2 step in open position. Of course it sounds richer and great.

  • Habakkuk 3:19

The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments.

  • check out the 3 piece saddle ? hmm

  • @12Radius Well spotted! This looks like an early 70s D-18. Clearly, LB, or someone, has decided to experiment with the intonation, hence the 3-pce. Additionally, it is not always easy to get a good balanced transduced sound from a standard Martin bridge, say with a Fishman AG undersaddle. Breaking the saddle into 2 or 3 bits SOMETIMES improves things. I guess here he has 3x2-string piezo elements wired in parallel.

  • Thanks to Mr. Buchingham for the down to earth arrangement. I'm liking it! I use the thumb and three fingers myself, interesting! Nice. I'm a self learner from reading books and watching all kinds of videos on music. Really nice to see Lindsey breaking it down, means alot to a listener whose been listening to Fleetwood Mac since the early 70s more into the 80s of my teens! Very cool!

  • he is seriously out of tune--right ??

  • @etreemuffinman Sounds like the low E string is a bit out of tune but, no...certainly not seriously out of tune.

  • Is there a part 2 to this guitar lesson? Im trying to figure out the chords now. he showed me the picking pattern.

  • Add To: guitar lessons

  • A true genius, unique style.Lindsey loves his guitars, and they love him, thus marriage makes him untouchable.

  • in my opinion the top five guitar plyers of all time should be 1.buckingham 2.van halen 3.hendrix 4.lifeson 5. walsh again just my opinion

  • When hes playing guitar hes wearing different clothes . i think hes superman.

  • Love this song, but is he slightly out of tune here or is it just my ears?

  • @ImSuperHaute He is tuned down 1/2 step to E flat, but, yes, it does appear he is ever so slightly out of tune, but wow, the writer teaching his own song!! don't see that too often do you?

  • what is the tuning on that please

  • @WriteNoteGrimsby It's standard tuning as far as I know, except his guitar is slightly out of tune so I guess he's playing just a little off standard! Love the song tho. My son loves me to play this to him at bedtime...

  • He is the Best ever

    JLK

  • lol at the title ^_^

  • its amazing how he can just grab the guitar and easily play landslide. i've seen him play this song sometimes with his eyes close. very underrated. i know he could definately play better than alot of guitarist.

  • @googoofan93 thats cos its a pretty easy song

  • @yawillyeah watch him play 'big love' !

  • @cindycavylover123 yeah hes a great guitar player never disputed that its just that landslide is a particularly easy song not a song worth rating his guitar skills off..

  • @yawillyeah easy maybe but for those of us just strting..well im sure u remember when u were only playing four months in

  • i have blood in my stool

  • maybe he should have tuned his A string!!

  • I am not sure he realises just how good he is

  • He is a man whose music i play constantly ! he is a god like genius and i wish he would tour in the u.k !

  • when he mentions Travis, start at 4:50, does he mean Merle Travis? Please respond! thanks!

  • @telecoustic Yes...he is definitely referring to Merle Travis...

  • Isn't Music Wonderful?

  • Wow. I felt bad about not reading music either. I can read the bass clef just fine, but the treble clef throws me off!

  • cool sounds

  • I love this man even more now, than I did before! He is the absolute God of Guitar!

  • is his guitar in standard tunning?

  • @cheerleader051893 Yes it's standard tuning, but tuned down half a step.

  • "too"

  • @sdicastro um, "poo"

  • Wrong name with Fleetwood Mac's 'legendary' guitarist. Surely that should read Peter Green, 'he had the sweetest tone I ever heard, he was the only one who ever gave me the cold sweats' according to B.B. King. Just sayin'...

  • Interested to hear him say he doesn't read music. This is what is special about artists like him and others in the past. They felt the music they played. They played from the heart. That is what I feel is missing from music today. Music today is too technical, too clever now.

  • @cliffedward Completely the opposite actually, I terms of structure nothing has changed, the difference now is the production approach, everything is dumbed down and technology has replaced musicianship, knowledge, craft and skill.

  • @cliffedward That is not what's special about artists like him. Please don't make it sound like being able to read music has a detrimental effect on your musicianship.

  • @cliffedward i dont even think its technical...i think its just notes people think sound good together and they throw shitty lyrics on them and call it music. there isn't any emotion behind it, and if there is, it's all generic and cliche.

  • @cliffedward I agree with most of what you wrote. I don't know if I'd call it "too clever" now, but I do think that too many solutions are found in the computer instead of in the performance.

  • he is an absolutley beast guitarist.....

  • a quite assasin! ala steve howe, a perfectionest!

  • Elma Fudd @ 5:07 ??

  • It's always nice to learn from the source, isn't it?

  • Does anyone know the exact tuning on the guitar for this song?!?!

  • @AdamRyanKirkwood just standard fella\, E A D G B E

  • @AdamRyanKirkwood If you mean the recorded version it's in standard tuning but with a capo on the 3rd fret.

  • What a super nice guy. Thanks for the lesson and the story.

  • Linsey seems like a down to earth guy whos still in awe of the guitar and humble to boot. I just had a look at this after seeing some Richard LLoyd guitar lessons and its obvious that LB has creative talent in spades and plays what he feels rather than being a master of technique. Which is the way I think it should be.

  • He never gets a chance to talk. WHATS UP WITH THAT!?!

  • he has beautiful hands. love him!

  • @imegaphoneeeee you sound like may form the movie "may" :O im afraid right now... please dont take hes hands and make him into a puppet...

  • His guitar is not out of tune. He is not quite as comfortable playing it in the open position. I'm not either. Plus he's dumbing it down a bit with the tempo. It's hard to play something differently when you've been playing it for twenty years yeah? Even the great Doc Watson has a hard time showing people how to play stuff slow. Put a capo on the third fret and give the song a try. It'll sound just fine.

  • Here Lindsey mentions Scotty Moore. Check out Scotty's son R Stevie Moore on Youtube..Great artist...songs like "Don't Let Me Go To The Dogs" "I like To Stay Home"

  • how the hell is he doing that?!

  • He is so amazing. He seems like someone that would be really interesting to speak with. I love his primitive, natural way of playing. So thankful for him!

  • Interesting that the guitar is completely unbranded -- no logo visible anywhere. Wonder if he or GW insisted on that? May not even be his guitar -- may have asked the writer to bring his own, unbranded guitar.

And he has this tuned way down, right?

  • @mbumburu Looks like a D-28 Martin. Sixties maybe? My grandpa had one from the fifties with a tortoiseshell pickgaurd and ebony tailpiece. Although ebony can sometimes be mistaken for rosewood. So hard to say for sure, but that's my guess.

  • Super cette chanson <3<3<3

  • Nice sounding guitar, but ever so slightly out of tune...

  • @chrook If Lindsey's guitar is out of tune, that's the way it's supposed to be.

  • @armstrongbrosband

    haha...well.. not really :)

But yeah, maybe that's it. If guitar is tuned to Eb that explains the warble effect.

But still even guitars tuned waayy down to open C and loer can be in tune with themselves.

Surprised no one noticed or said anything.

  • @gtrrobster ;)

  • @chrook Sounds like he has it tuned 1/2 step down, which gives it that rich sound~in other words, he tuned it that way on purpose.

  • @chrook hahahaha yeaah you no more than him, remind me how many albums youve sold, its probably just a semitone down

  • @kfcchicken12

Well at least I know how to spell.

Even if it's tuned to E flat it shouldn't sound out of tune. Which it is, as others have also noted.

  • Lindsey is sooo underrated as a guitarist it ticks me off! Along with Stevie Nicks it was Lindseys guitar playing that made FM such a hot band!!! Aside from Lindsey I love Santana - but that's it. Noone else does it for me.

  • @nightskymine Have you ever heard of somebody called Mark Knopfler?!?!

You might change you mind.....Let me know! However, I agree with you: LB and Santana are some of the greats!

  • @neju087

Agreed on the MArk Knopfler thing! He is as bad as it gets.

Coming to mind, only he and LB use finger picking in a rock context. And also Jeff Beck.

Not to start argument, as I love Buckinham's playing a lot...but Knopfler does surpass him in terms of technical skills and variety of styles. MK's lead work is on par with Gilmoure if you ask me. Just a LOT more country(Chet) ish.

    Just opinions...lots of them here!

  • This guy is waaay to underrated.

  • @M16second i'd say that he's the most underrated guitarist alive

  • @M16second totally. He's probably my favorite guitarist ever. I once brought up on a forum in a thread called "Unpopular Music Opinions" that he was the best guitar player ever. I got laughed at by a guy, saying he wasn't even the best player in Fleetwood Mac. But I dunno, his playing always stuck with me I think because he doesn't really sound like anyone else and if I did play, I'd want to emulate him big time.

  • @M16second

Yep. One of the few natural musicians. Neil Young is another. McCartney. They don't have to work for it. It just comes and their playing is effortless.

  • @M16second I disagree. I think anybody who has listened to Lindsey's playing recognizes his greatness. I think he has kind of just hid in the shadow behind Stevie. This is interesting because I think the exact same thing happened with Mike Campbell hiding in the shadows behind Tom Petty.

  • @M16second He's the most underrated guitarist on the planet. And easily in the top 5

  • I came here to watch a video of Lindsey Buckingham. I don't care about pop tarts.

  • Holy cow. Lindsey doesn't read music, but he's a brilliant guitar virtuoso. Very inspiring for young musicians. Wonderful video. TY for posting. =)

  • It looks like a standard D18 to me

  • "...and extension of my limitations." Ha! This man doesn't have any. It's nice that he's modest, though.

  • Think anyone can get the tabs for this

  • @MetalTurtal he's playing the recorded guitar part. you looking for recorded or live version?

  • 3 thousand dollar guitar not a big deal...

  • And he doesn't read music...astonishing...really

  • Is this the dad from Boy Meets World? / his twin?

    (necessary online sarcasm alert)

  • schryf,jy,geen,music,hy,is,toch,ouder,dan,ons?????

  • @mollysangelique Ga es iets nutigs doen snol

  • One of the most underrated guitarists in rock and roll. I rank him way up there.

  • Ever notice there are countless guitar magazines showcasing the greatest guitarists of the last 60 years and the same ones over and over again? And yet LB has never once made a cover or been showcased in a proper light? He's better than most famous ones on a skill level alone. They even make a big deal out of guitarists who only have a cult following. I think Lindsey falls squarely between the two poles. If i ran a guitar magazine, i would only showcase the underdogs like Rory Gallagher.

  • Not many artists would take the time to show you how to play a song they've played a zillion times. You can hear the pain in the tone of the guitar still.

  • One of music history's vastly underappreciated guitarists IMHO.

  • I love this video so much!!! If I could have a private lesson w/ Lindsey Buckingham, it would be like learning kung fu from Pai Mei. After he teaches me everything he knows, I'd become invincible!

  • "limitations?" I'd like to have those limitations ;-P

  • One of the best pickers of all time IMHO. <3 Thanks for doing this video Lindsey. Not many with your rep would do something like this. A thousand times, thank you.

  • this was a great gift. boy i'll tell ya,

  • lovely stuff.

  • I don't know why I keep watching him play, I just feel more and more inadequate. Hahaha.

  • @gahzeyboe Tell me about it.

  • Awesome post,Thanks for sharing.

  • awsome

  • I like the fact that he's not freaking out about his B string being flat.

  • Playing this song, for whatever reason, is pure hell on my left hand. So worth it though.

  • The guitar is out of tune.

  • i had the distinct pleasure to meet mr. buckingham at JFK airport in the southwest airlines baggage claim. i was surprised-id figure he would have flown 1st class! what a pleasant person-a gentleman and courteous to me even tho i interrupted a conversation he was having with a lovely woman. i will never forget that-thanks lindsey!

  • reading is boring anyhow, real anything(even trades other than music) requires instinct to be more effective. Reading is tripping on other people's crap. If he plays a certain way, he plays a certain way, if you do "what your sposta" as people tell me, you won't get anything done at all.

  • He makes it look so easy! He's an amazing guitarist, and song writer, and vocalist.

  • The recording is capo'd up three frets.

  • if you are concerned with tuning and what kind of picks, strings, and pedals are being used, you are missing the point. And not by a little bit.

  • @pasodiufwen > I'm not sure I agree... The artist is the "icing on the cake." The sponsor is "Guitar World" and the setting is a recording studio, which represents production, where perfection is the goal. The interviewee is a guitarist and the instrument should be tuned. The foreknowledge that the discussion would evolve to "Landslide" would also suggest a capo would be located on the 3rd fret of the tuned guitar positioned next to Mr. Buckingham.... and THAT is the point.

  • whats up wit dat?

  • the e and b are out and the guit is not intonated very well, thats obvious when he hits the open b

  • He's such an intense performer, but when he's just talking he just seems like this low-key, even shy guy.

  • 1) He's not in very good relative tune to begin with.

    2) The difference between 440 Hz and 444 Hz is only about 1/6th of a semitone.

    3) On the video he's about 1.25 semitones flat, that's about 410 Hz tuning.

  • @RenateRoggen boy your ear is good

  • @softsummernights He sounds out of tune because he IS out of tune. The guitar is not in tune with itself, period. Lindsay IS amazing. I'm surprised he let it go without insisting the guitar was in tune with itself--440 or otherwise.

  • Is it just me, or is that guitar just slightly out of tune?

  • @Guitslinger59 yes, out of tune...terribly

  • @ 7:08...does he have his ring finger on the G string or is it jus middle and pinky on the E and B string. Not sure what chord. It looks like G/F# OR SOMETHING ??

  • Lindsey never got the credit he deserved as a great guitarist, but my God, how could anyone ever be expected to follow the magnificent Peter Green! In all fairness, they should have changed the name after Peter and Danny Kirwin left the band. And here's to hoping that Peter continues his comeback, and that Danny gets better and one day will play again. A couple of bad acid hits at a commune in Munich one night took both of these legends down. So sad.

  • acoustic version of big love is beautifull, its def one of the best songs from his time

  • he is a god of guitar! and a legend!

  • He is a guitar God!!!

  • HIS HANDS COULD HAVE NO SKIN OR MUSCLE, AND HE'D STILL PLAY BETTER THAN U

  • @BIGJOEcool368 hmm so non skin or muscle. willing to bet against.

  • @BIGJOEcool368 why the fuck would you even say that? that's disgusting to even think about...

  • @WoodyVagina your name is also disgusting to think about...

  • @YellowSprinkler problaby,someone,visit,hookers,i,guess

  • @BIGJOEcool368 ...and without a pick

  • Lindsey is special because he plays loose and free. He doesn't give a damn about shredding or all that other technical crap. He's technique is imperfect and that's what I love about it.

  • I saw that rag, rolling stone list with Joan Jett in it. I was disgusted when they left out Alex Lifeson and missed that they didnt put Buckingham in it who drives the bus on most underrated players. Love his playing. so much talent. rolling stone mag has become irrelevant. Laughable at best.

  • @SammyPrairiechicken I aree..without question lindsey is VERY underated..Alex lifeson is above it all anyway..im 43 years old and when i was 20 or 21 a friend turned me on to 2112...loved it!!

  • I think the guitar is a Martin D-28, and man does it sound nice with him playing it!

  • Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

He's playing: Cmaj,Emin,Amin,?(don't know this one) and Gmaj.

  • @nutsbutdum

    I think he plays C G/B Am7 G/B.

  • @nutsbutdum its open c, open g, a7, open g.

  • It's fairly minor, but lol at the title (at the title's fail itself).

    "Fleetwood's Mac" = a lol fail.

Oh, and Lindsey Buckingham is a wicked guitarist and a wicked, classy guy.

  • Nice Guitar

  • Hey people he's Lindsey freaking Buckingham he don't need to have his guitar in perfect tune for every little thing like this.

  • i was gonna turn it off around halfway because I was gonna watch tv but i felt SO GUILTY so i watched it all the way through.

  • eh, i like my version of Landslide better :)

  • maybe the fact that he doesn't tune his guitar makes his sound unique?:)

  • @Brekner was thinking the same thing

  • A genius....

  • I find it odd that so many great musician's from his era were inspired by rubbish albums like "Heartbreak Hotel". Forget Elvis. All hail Chuck Berry, the One True King of Rock n' Roll!

  • Is it wrong to watch this video whilst in the back of ur head thinking God he is mighty fine

  • @ffscantfindausername Nope ~ just means you have really good taste. Fine as the finest wine. And I swear he gets better with age <3

  • @ME3BCHERIE AMEN TO THAT :)

  • Think the guitar is generally in tune, just the low E string and B string are out of tune a bit none the less. It's still ok.

  • Nice gent, but It's funny how these former greats end up surrounding themselves with more musical gear than furniture. Thing is, he could at least have tuned his guitar for the presentation.

  • Awesome

  • humble and a lovely song, but couldn't they have tuned his guitar properly?

  • The most underrated guitarist ever. Glen Fry, Zappa, he blows them all away.

  • excelent sound if I could play like that I would not be were I am today

    knowwhere man! :-(

  • He's A Walking Masterpiece...

  • ask what's her face if james frederick robin is a good name

    She's never met me

  • while you used denim

  • 8 people are a stockpile of human crap.

  • Not that Lindsey isn't one of the very Greatest, but just want to be viewer number 123456? How about a prize here Mr. B? Front row ticket or somptin...

The story of Stevie and Linsdsey's venture into Fleetwood is one Great story!

  • I learned guitar by listening like Lindsey but he's lightyears better than I will ever be. Man if I was ever going to do an album I'd want him playing on it. The tastiest player out there. His playing really made all those FLMC songs.

  • he was my first guitar hero :) I still listen to this guy

  • why this great man and great musician is so under rated is beyond me he is imho 1 of the greats

  • i love fleetwood mac. huge huge fan. grew up to my dad playing his fleetwood mac vinyl blaring it throughout my house. the funny thing is im only sixteen and im obsessed with music from this time.....im OBSESSED with jimi hendrix hence the user name.
