the only posible connections between Jeanne-claude and christo and Goldsworthy is that they like to base their artworks in an environment, christo and jeanne-claude prefer their works to be close within the city, close by so people can view them and they use synthetic man-made material. Goldsworthy however uses only natural founded material, and-from what i've seen of his work- tends to be in the natural environment away from the larger areas. both artists rely heavily on documentation however.
In what way does Christo make art from what's already around him? Seems to me he makes art out of thousands of square feet of textile fabrics, which he has specifically manufactured & shipped to the given site. Andy works with what's around him. Andy, not Christo... Oh, and a cloth covered bridge is NOT natural or environmental, its architectural.
Two VERY dissimilar artists.
I dislike this video, but you're probably 10, so good job on your first video post.
Hardly a 'video about Andy Goldsworthy'.. As much about C & J-C.. A video about Land Art maybe though WTF was the circles/squares thing about at the end?.. And, yeah, the similarity between these artists ends at the name artist.
Christo and Jeanne-Cleaude are crude dramatists compared to the sensitivity and elegance of Goldsworthy. They prefer statements rather than relationships. It's like having a conversation with a monk (Goldsworthy) or a news anchor (Christo-Cleaude)
They both work with the land around them yes, but that is where the similarity ends.
Andy Goldsworthy works intuitively with what is already around him, the concepts of his art deal with time, change, growth, life and death. His artworks are left in nature to eventually decay and fade away.
Christo and Jeanne-Claude work with man made materials of plastic and rope. Their concepts deal with the idea of creating interest in places and things in our day to day lives by wrapping them up.
Christo and Jeanne-Claude are nothing like Andy Goldworthy. Yes, both artists work outside in connection with the Earth. They use an inordinate amount of man-made material to create conceptual art outdoors. In doing so they harm wildlife and natural cycles. One of the concepts behind Andy's work is that It is ephemeral within the environment and with eventually soak back into the earth (via: natural decomposition.) Have you seen pink plastic decompose?
Disagree fundamentally with your comments about the similarity in their work. Goldsworthy works with the environment. Nothing he has produced will have caused any damage to the natural world or the creatures in it and his work will either decay and dissolve or will be taken over by the landscape. The two wrappers are damaging habitats and creating potentially life-threatening havoc for the creatures who live on the cliffs, bridges, rooftops etc. Just self-indulgent pretention, not environmental!
@nevharvey17 Christo and Jeane-Claude (RIP) have spent million and millions of dollars funding studies to determine environmental impact of their art and materials and processes they can use to minimize or completely avoid any environmental impacts. You should do a bit more research than just looking at photos.
@nevharvey17 i disagree. although on a man made produce and scale, it is clearly noted that in the production of their works jeanne-claude and chirsto take it into high concideration the environment that they are working in. but its true. i dissagree with this guy's comments about similarity. the only similarity is that they both work with different environments on different scales (jean-claude and christo preferably bigger)
I hate Christo. His work is bullshit.
I adore Goldsworthy. His work is brilliant.
Viva la difference.
