  • Now all it needs is a somehow-clear hydrophobic surface so that your greasy fingers won't leave prints all the time.

  • i am glad to see that multitouch is finging home in microsoft apple and linux

  • Hmm completly new technology... To me this looks like cube desktop and some apps other people made with their multi touch pads. i mean really you could make on of these with some paper, cardboard, and a webcamera

  • STFU with apple and the iphone. Multitouch technology has been around for a long ass time.

  • Just a matter of years an Microsoft invents the touch screen! And probably one day they will invent a phone that works with such a touch screen and call it a revolutionary device!

  • MS Surface? its coming.

  • This technologie was first used in 1983 with very small screen. It was available vor private use. The computer wasn't up to handeling it all back then and now it can, so that's why it seems it is 'se-invented' again.

It's like a car: if you build a new car, you haven't invented the car itself but you've improved some parts of it and optimized them. That's what MS and Apple are doing atm with the multi-touch screens..

  • These people must be on drugs...again...imaginging they are inventing things that have already been done...

Perhaps their innovation IS being able to IMAGINE they are doing something new...

  • Microsoft just finds developing technologies, uses their money to make their own, and pretend they invented it.

  • Bravo. Almost every single software/technology company does this. It's how technology advances. Taking technology from the labs, marketing the hell out of it, and putting it into the hands of the people. Thanks for revealing a not-so-secret secret.

  • Here's what I see as the drawback. You'll be perpetually cleaning the screen because of all the touching.

  • To all those mac users this is not MAC technology, the ipod touch and iphone use capacitive sense for their touch interface. This is quite innovative and new and has many more applications and it is not a rip off. Fuck I hate mac users, god damn rip off merchants macs dont even use their own OS they use BSD Unix for their base software.

  • now i want this computer.

    that is so coooool

  • Yeah, Apple for the win!

  • Your an idiot...

  • Apple!

  • Apple didnt invent this...

  • Apple and Microsoft DON'T invent anything...just Apple is a cosmetics company that produces the most beautiful products and MS eventually follows along with crap...VISTA, Windows...

Innovators don't work at these places...Modifiers do...or they buy the innovation.

Whether MS or Apple...their job number one is to sell you as much crap as they can.

  • Amen.

  • Hmm, that's poor. It's not smooth, it's more like a self-made-mod and it's way behind the iPhone tech. I thought Jaff Han was working for MS now, what about his Displays and apps?

  • He doesn't know what he talks about....

  • these fuckin poor microsoft guys dont have better ideas than copying apples technologys...

it just looks like crap, im sorry. ...and it doesnt work fluently either.

    X for vista, baby!!!

  • looks bad

  • observation: this guy doesn't have alot of hair

  • crap.

  • it isnt crap? that would be better than using a mouse, because u wud reduce the amount of rsi.

    idiot

  • don't call me idiot.

it's just a bigger copy of iphone. it isn't even working smoothly.

  • wow... GREAT spelling there, gmachine, you moron.

  • Microsoft have been developing Multitouch for 5 years, this approach is innovative and different from Jeff Han's - who uses a projector rather than a common display. The great thing about this is that it can be easily incorporated into existing displays - giving multitouch to your laptop or desktop screen.

  • this is old microsoft is stealing again

  • would not be the first time >.>

  • This is such crap!!

Jeff Han at New York University did this about two years ago, and it was so much better done! Jeff had also done some incredible work on the software. Nothing like this crap!

(I must say MS-labs did some cool stuff showing of the Image Synthesiser at TED though. THAT was cool!)

  • It's become technology for technology's sake at this point. It is very primitive. There are simpler, faster ways to do this now, but in 10 years it'll be much nicer.

  • im pretty sure microsoft had this idea way b4 iphone

  • hell yeah!

  • The iphone cannot detect hand gestures or other images.

To make an analogy, the iphone "feels" your fingers, while this technology "sees" your hand (from a short distance).

  • Uses a different technique to the iPhone, the MS Surface Computer and DIY-projector versions because it relies on direct reflection of light from fingers and can therefore handle proximity, e.g. sense when you stroke close to the surface without touching. That's cool.

  • Looks like crap to me too, but it's the hardware that's different. I think the iPhone screen works via electric field over the screen. This infrared thing can work with your fingers farther away from the screen.

  • btw can you have more then two touches on a iPhone?(like 6 or 7 fingers)

  • Yes.

  • Anyone who thinks it's easier to push things around on the screen with your fingers than it is to click an icon with a mouse has his head so far up his ass he must be working for Microsoft.

  • we already know this!!!

  • Not only are they copying apple, look at the carasol it's from compiz fusion/beryl!

  • dont think this guy has heard about the iphone/ipod toutch

  • LOL! It's like the iPhone interface for a lap-top. Apple have done it, and they've already miniaturised it.

See how we stretch and rotate. And here's another example of what you can do with it. Look. You can stretch. And rotate.

    Microsoft. Lagging behind again.

    watch?v=ac0E6deG4AU is more impressive.

  • I'm an apple guy and hate microsoft with a passion, but I guess you haven't seen Microsoft Surface have you? It's useless but it's like a huge iphone - looks cool, costs a bomb, is good for nothing.
