Dog Sled Run With Samoyeds

Do the Samoyed boys get along? Do they have territorial issues because they are boyz?

I am considering training my samoyed for sledding, but their show dogs and I'm concerned about their coat getting ruined. Have you ever had any issues and if so, were you able to fix them?

@TheFlyingArabianPony Both Nimbus and Lightning are champions. I showed them during racing season, as well as during our year-round training schedule. In 2004 Lightning won BIS at our National Specialty and was also awarded the SCA Top Sled Dog Award. Both dogs also hike in loaded dog packs. We have had no instances of their equipment harming their coat, and I have not heard of this happening from others who run and show their Samoyeds. Hope this helps.

What kind of sled do you have?

@leapatra - It is a Chatmac sled. It's their Banshee model, which was designed for sprint racing. This Canadian company is no longer in business, but their used sleds occasionally come up for sale.

3rd Oldest Breed Next to the Wolf. We Had A Northern Siberian Samoyed With A Biscuit Fleck Color Through His Coat . & On His Muzzle. I Can Remember When Dad Used To Take Him To Shows. Some People Would Say, "Thats Not A Real Samoyed !" The Judge Would Hear Them & Say That Dog Is Most Likely More Pure & Better Bred Than The Usual White Southern Siberian Samoyeds That they Had. And Of Course He Won Many 1st 2nd & 3rd' Placements. A Beautiful Wild Animal... I Will Post Some Pics.

Yup! all purpose dog for the Nenets/Samoyed people. They actually are meant for pulling a moderate to heavy sledge as opposed to a sled for longer durations at a slower speed. Usually following their master. But they're very flexible, and the best dog in the world for the coldest conditions.
