  • sounds smoky and exotic. great version and vocal performance

  • Man this dude did an AWESOME cover of Jeff Buckley! what a cool rethinking of an original song. Not usually into 'classical' shit though :P

  • @cfer50 I see no connection with Jeff Buckley (only heard of him today). Glad you liked it anyway.

  • @cfer50 OK, I see. This aria is plus or minus four hundred years old. So Jeff Buckley performed it, and so did this countertenor, equally -- no one is covering or rethinking anyone. That said, I found this an intriguing performance (I speak as one who has sung the aria myself) and very much in the raw spirit of the dramatic context. Fans of this singer must have been blown away by what he was revealing of his soul.

  • @cfer50 I think you got it the wrong way around their. Jeff Buckley actually covered Henry Purcell.

  • @cfer50 You do realise Jeff Buckly didnt write it?

  • @cfer50 It's the other way around, Jeff Buckley covered the original piece. It's from the Opera "Dido and Eneas" written by Purcel.

  • @cfer50 It's amazing how many people on here can't take a fucking joke. Of course he knows that Buckley didn't write it! cfer50, I at least found your comment extremely funny. Particularly as I think Buckley did the finest rendition of this piece EVER, Janet Baker be damned :-)

  • @cfer50 dude, jeff buckley sang it like, once.

  • @cfer50 FAIL

  • Yes it is... The baroque era or period Started in 1675 and ended in 1750 coincedentially died (or ended) with the great Baroque composer Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750)

  • @MrHugoalexandro *cough1600cough*

  • @MrHugoalexandro The Baroque period began in 1600 and lasted until 1750....this is also the year that Bach died.

  • Is this from the Baroque era?

  • Yes, it's by Purcell :-)

  • @hjo183 yup

  • @hjo183 fine English baroque...I don't listen to classical anywhere as near as often as I should, guess I always feel somewhat guilty about that...but when I do it's usually baroque like Bach, Vivaldi, Marais...

  • This is beautiful. devastating. I remember Klaus Nomi did this one too...

Keep up the brilliant work. I will now listen to all your posted music! (Especially the multi track choir stuff!)
