Sorry to hear the news - not only was David Hess a convincing actor in Last House On The Left (I've said he's even scarier than Freddy or Jason, because there's people like Krug out there), but I loved his minimalist soundtrack from the movie too. How many horror movies use English horns and oboes in the score? LOL  R.I.P. David A. Hess.

@ChannelBelongs2Scott It's so weird, a while before he died, I was thinking whoever has the rights to the movie, they should've made a T-shirt and have it say KRUG LIVES, because Elm Street and Friday the 13th get all this publicity and merchandising and I was thinking this villain is superior to them because like you said, he's realistic, but it's weird...the idea of KRUG LIVES, and then shortly after David Hess died...weird.

it was a shock when i heard about mr. hess passing . he was on my facebook page , i remeber when i first saw TLHOTL, i was shocked and i was like never will i eat during this movie again ,lol. i have both versions on it on dvd .

@Psychadelic60sFan well like you said it was "characters" and just that,on the 70's decade,but the project i had with David was a challenge because it was a nice character ( an old cop supporting a young inspector) he was very motivated to play it,if we had this project on the screen audience discovered a new aspect of his talent,we hadn't time to make it,i can give my witness,he was a true kind man,producers asked him to do the max with the "rape" scene in "last house".peace

I still think House on The Edge of the Park was superior to this movie. But for anyone who liked this movie, i recommend: "Maniac (1980)", "Martyrs", "High Tension", "Funny Games (1997)", "Cannibal Holocaust", "The Toxic Avenger", "I Spit on Your Grave 1978 and 2010", "House on The Edge of the Park", "Eden Lake", "Inside" etc.

It's weird how the two who played the girls in the movie almost dissappeared after its release, we know nothing about them, they havent been in any other film since this one, the mari actor hasnt even appeared in any interviews like the rest have.

@Evropae Wes Craven mentions one of them in the director's commentary and said she'd become a college professor or something like that, said he ran into her at some art exhibition I think and she was freaked out to see him because she was embarrassed by having played in this movie lol.

@Evropae Well it kinda makes sense that the woman who played Mari hasn't been in any of the interviews because according to the interviews on the DVD she was really afraid of them while shooting. So the fear she displays in the film probably her actual fear.

@Evropae The Girl who played Mari did some porn afterwards but other then that shes pretty much stayed away from anything film related, I don't really understand why shes so embarrassed, LHotL is an amazing film, not easy to watch but defiantly an important one in the history or horror. Yea I know she was supposedly terrified of david Hess etc. but as the trailers say, "Its only a movie."

@Johnlindsey289 If I remember right the original idea Wes Craven had for the movie was a hardcore porno. So yea, I guess I do somewhat. I think that it definitely influenced the recent craze of horror torture porn.

closet movies to his modernly is Martyrs, Ichi The Killer and The Devil's Rejects. Rob Zombie is a fan of this movie and you can tell his House of 1000 Corpses and Devil's Rejects were influenced by this, Eli Roth even loves this movie and used it as one of his inspirations to Hostel. I guess Takashi Miike loves this too
