the economy is horrible, yet right across the road from my house a brand new home development community is being built...most of the land being used is prime and level...a new shopping center will be placed there as well and employ 200 people...btw..the home prices start at $240K...
I am in a similar scenario, and I have been wrongfully terminated from my blue-collar job for four days. Still living with my parents, having no car, no official driver's license, and no individual property I call my very own, I do the best that I can to find an even better job; one that doesn't involve working with lower-class, uneducated rednecks with mild/moderate fearmongering personalities.
If only I could have taken online college courses and moved to Wall Street... :'(
Personally, I thought his response was awesome. And it actually made me laugh. It's like when I was at lunch one day during work and this lady is complaining about not having a hundred bucks to get her car ac fixed, meanwhile she called her husband to remind him to pay their cable bill. LOL
So why would anyone with any level intelligence ask such a stupid question. Dave is right...work and save. Too many "kids' want it given to them. KilroysGat is as stupid as anyone can get. Grow up and take responsibility.
Libtards, I'm a Democrat and DAVE IS RIGHT!!!!! These are a bunch of whiny yuppies. I may not agree with Dave on everything, but this one he is spot on. Worried about buying a house when there are tax credits for new home buyers in a BUYERS MARKET!!! Cmon those two yuppie morons need to lay off the bong and start picking up a book...maybe Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover!
Dave Ramsey gave me the inspiration to save and live on a budget like never before. I listen to his radio program religiously like church. I have stopped using my credit card as a new year's resolution for 2010. Total Money Makeover is my bible.
@ir10031981 and your costing yourself at least 120 a year to follow dave. personally i will keep charging on my card and paying the balance in full and making the 1% cashback bonus for doing nothing except paying for the stinking bills I have to pay for anyway. if your bills are 1k a month 1 % is 10 bucks 10 times 12 months is $120 worth of free money or christmas money
Love Dave Ramsey but cut those "yuppies" some slack man! Most likely Dave's "person on the street" approached them with a microphone and asked them if they wanted to be on tv to ask a financial question! Their question is very cliche and general..Is'nt Dave Ramsey's passion to help the financially illiterate? Why is he surprised people are asking themselves questions like this?
you can't borrow your way out of debt america!!!! you cant dig your way out of a hole.............save and use cash....way to go dave you paid the price to win
nawwleans... ummm sales tax is added on to whatever you buy every time you buy. And seeing as how people buy things a lot, that's where the government would be getting it. but hey you're a smart guy right? tell me how good the IRS and bailout plans is doing for this economy! how about this, dave has helped many of people, as you can tell, and is a very wealthy man. Chances are if you're searching him on youtube, you've accomplished neither!

Ive heard Dave's show. Its just he is a dumb ass about math, economics, and taxes, and can't spot a pile of crap like fairtax.
Ask Dave if the government can pay itself over a trillion in sales taxes -- see what he says. That''s the con Fairtax is pulling. Dave doesn't fucking know that and is apparentlly too stupid to spot it.
Have him read page 148 -- "The federal government itself will become a major taxpayer".

Dave is an entertainer --not a thinker.
He is a complete moron on tax policy - -for example, he is too stupid to realize the so called Fairtax is a complete Farce, Have Dave explain how the government can pay itself a trillion dollars a year in sales tax -- and count that as income. Cause thats how Fairtax works -- the government would just pay itself most of its own taxes.
And Dumb ass Dave buys into that shit.
SOmeone so fuching stupid about that -- you gotta wonder.
NawwLeans, Dave is an entertainer not a thinker...and a multimillionaire. Oh and he is a dumbass too. Tell me how a dumbass becomes an entertainer, on television. And please I have got to know this how does a dumbass make millions??? Naww, get a clue.
I repeat: we're in a recession, and that's not even a controversial thing to say. And a trip to the mall wouldn't change that. Tell me where I'm wrong, or what I could learn by taking a trip to the mall. I stated a fact and your answer was "go to the mall"???
I did not say we weren't in a recession. And I didn't say "go to the mall". I said go to the mall and watch people. People are still spending money. People are still making money. Some in different ways. Our economy is strong. Not as strong as a year ago, but still strong.
Yes and in our country a little common sense when it comes to money would be a welcome thing...dave is great. we wouldnt have trillions of national debt and millions of bailout debt coming if people would use COMMON SENSE.
Dave should have taken the question a little more seriously. He should have given reasons why there's hope for eventual home ownership. IMO, those two should hope the housing market continues to slide. That way they'll get a house at an affordable price. Right now, at least in Florida, housing is unaffordable, which is why houses just aren't moving. And the market will continue to stagnate until the average home price no longer exceeds three times average household income. Just economics.
Yeah, that's possible. For too long now, people have based their expectations on others instead of on their own situation. We've all known someone who has all the toys, the nice cars, the huge house, the country club membership, yaddy yadda. The thing is, look at the debt they have to acquire all that. They're owned by every bank in the nation.
@KilroysGat Haha I like this video. Sure he could have given a boring answer, but his response was much more entertaining and still informed the two kids that there's still hope.
yeah This coming from a guy whose only credentials are that he went bankrupt. He sells people on expensive books and seminars when they are in such dire financial straights that they cannot even afford those things to begin with. I guess If I figure out 1,000 different ways to reiterate the blanket pharase of "don't spend money you don't have" and parlet that into a radio and TV talk show, selling churches on my seminars, and huge book deals I can get rich just like Dave did. He's an Artard.

It isn't that he is saying it. It is that he says it and charges people who cannot afford it, for his simplistic advice, and does so for 100$ a head for his seminars. He also gets kickback from his ELPs so they can get referrals from him for essentially doing no real work, sells books that are summed up in one sentence. He does shoddy debt counseling at best. He isn't a certified financial planner. He gives out bad investment advice and suckers people into giving him money they cannot afford.
You can get his books from the local library and it's FREE to listen (and even call in) to his radio shows.
You can't blame him for making a living. And he never claims to be a CFP. Which I think is great that he isn't. I know a lot of broke financial planners.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
He has no credentials and isn't a CFP who has a regulating body like the SEC or a broker dealer overseeing what advice he gives out. Much of his advice is simple, but other parts are just bad and actually problematic. He charges 100$ a head for seminars. Typically it helps to have credentials and he doesn't have any substantive ones. Let Me know if you would like to be flown by a pilot who doesn't have his pilots license for free. This is essentially what you are saying about Dave Ramsey.
People don't listen to him for his financial planning advice- that's what he refers to the ELP's for. They listen to him for his advice on fixing character flaws, immature attitudes about money and ways to change basic behaviors.
$100 a head is for the VIP tickets. $30 for general admission. Who doesn't blow $30 at the movies. I think he is giving a great deal. My folks took one of his courses in 2004. 2005 my mom lost her job. They still paid off $38,000 of debt on a single income in 18 months. They make triple house payments now. Some times people only need a shove in the right direction. Worked for them, it could work for someone else.
He's helped a lot of people including me. Why shouldn't I listen to him? He has really helped us, I mean really helped us where we needed it. Our lives will be better, brighter & different forever. He's helped thousands upon thousands of people. Can you say that about yourself?
That is so right! People you don't need an iPod, or that video game, or that other video game or even cable T.V. All that crap is useless. TYhey are programming you with it! Programming you to buy more & more! Open your eyes. Do you know why credit card companies can make such expensive commercials? Because they are stealing your money! All in the name of convienience. You are paying them to spend your own money! UGHHH! People don't finance a cheesburger at McDonalds, are you NUTS??? Wake UP!!!!
