  • By far this game was BEYOND its time

  • I miss the 90's

  • Skyrim beofre there was skyrim

  • What, exactly, does dying immediately after leveling up do?

  • Its so weird that an 8 bit game that can compete with A Link to the Past never spawned a series.

  • This game is awesome.

I would have been impressed with this run if it hadn't been "tool-assisted."

If SNK would stop being dumb and only making King of Fighters games, and made a sequel/remake of this game, I would be happy.

  • Still waiting for Super Crystalis

  • OMG this game brings back SO MANY MEMORIES of my childhood. My brothers and I would sit and play this game for hours back in 93-94. I would give anything to go back to that time. Thanks for posting this video! I'm playing it now on "console classix" - love it!

  • seriously this is probably the best game of all time

  • fuck i love this game took me a while to beat it since i played it on my nes n still have all my nes games :)

  • WTF, that cas to be a computer programmed to play, no way humanly possible!!

  • @ImakulatDeux that's what it means by Tool Assisted heh

  • it took me sooooooooo long to beat this game.. this video makes my soul hurt.

  • What?! You mean I can walk in eight fucking directions?!?! WHOAH! ...Why does the Snes have games with mostly four walkable directions then? >.>

  • When did he get the Ball of Fire? I believe he skipped the boss fight in the swamp. o.O

  • @thevillage88 He never gets the ball of fire. But it's possible to get the ability to do level 2 fire shots due to a glitch. To activate the glitch, equip a sword that you can charge to level 2. Then go the menu, switch swords and save your game (In that order without unpausing). Then either die or hit reset (not power). When you load your game you will have the sword you just switched to at the charge level of the old one. If you go to the menu it goes back to normal though.

  • fastest shoppe rin teh world lawl.

  • howd you get the ball of fire?

  • Man I love this game. Back in the NES days, I always preferred this to Zelda! There have been attempts to make a 3D version of the game since the PSone. I would love to develop it. I already got great ideas

  • @cridical1 If your a destined hacker, there is somebody on NESDev who has some info on the engine, modify it and maybe Crystalis 2 will be in production. :P

  • HAHA i remember my dad got me this game when i was 4. I didn't know how to read so i just walked around poking at things.

  • Ha! At 6 minute mark you aren't really supposed to use turbo button to beat him. Just slash him normally and let it be there just a while. You could have saved couple of seconds there making this run 52:20 run.

  • @Bastiest How? 0_o Slashing requires perfect timing as the turbo button is synced perfectly to him. Next.

  • OH yea that game was the awesome !!! my favorite game with FF

  • what the hell happens at 4:30??

  • Already a cheat, you start with 100 gold, he purchases an alarm flute for 50, which leaves 50, then proceeds to buy warp boots that cost 60, but he only has 50 left, and still gets the boots. PFFFT NEXT

  • @Aimarty TAS. Tool assisted. Probably used a glitch that selected the item so fast, the games program never got to deduct the money.

  • @Aimarty This is due to a glitch that lets you swap the prices of items. Move from one item to another and press the A button right away. You'll get the second item for the price of the first. If you moved the cursor from an empty space, it is free. This is not difficult to do on a real NES.

  • this the good version, forget the GBC version was ever made

  • The first SNK's rpg but never again they made another since this was probably the their biggest train wreck of all time.

  • @ssjcmc82

    bitch had best be trollin

  • @ssjcmc82 Dumb. It didn't sell as well because so much "OMG ZELDA" was going on, but it was definitely the superior game. Especially to Zelda 2. No comparing needed to Zelda 1, and was far more of a exploring adventure then Startropics. But how would you know? Troll. Learn your NES History.

  • first rpg i ever played.

  • i used to rule this game back in my wee days.

  • Wait... there's 1 part?

  • how did you get the fire ball? without beating the insect? you only died and continued and you had it? did you cut that on the video? thats not fair

  • @nekodeoz

there are parts of the video cut out

  • i use to love this game now i remember y

  • The best RPG for the NES

  • @greyfox37 yeah screw final fantasy ! lol fail....

  • 2, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 agreed

  • Fellow fans of crystalis hear me. These sites I have post are retro gaming sites. Those who don't own a nintendo or emulator go to these sites to play Nintendo Crystalis and even GBC Crystalis for free. Please visit these sites and enjoy playing crystalis "on the go" virtualnes . com nintendo8 . com retrouprising . com 1980-games . com vizzed . com everyvideogame . com nesgamezone . com playnesflashgames . com

  • You've posted this on so many Crystalis videos.

  • I'm gonna do my own speed run..use gameshark to be level 99, have the teleport magic, all the swords and call it "tool-assisted".

I'm gonna have the best time for sure!

  • you can only go up to level 16

  • I recently figured out a glitch where you can use the second level fire sword ability non stop without having to charge. Know if anyone has figured that one out or am i the first?

  • you're the first, so? tell me please how to do it... :D

    please

i mean i can do the first level with the warrior ring but, second level? how?

  • @nekodeoz i did it on the GBA but you have your sword of fire power to level 2 and then let it go and half way through the fire animation you save it and then press use the weapon button again and repeat.

  • thank you very mucho mr roboto! im gonna try it, thanks!! TO THE GBA!!! jajaja

it was so hard for me to find the original game for GBA y have like 6 copies for NES but only one for GBA.

    Again, thanks

  • OCTOBER 1, 1997

    THE END DAY

I actually dug out this cartridge to play it for awhile on that day. No nuclear war though. My NES did quit working not long after though.

  • why did you let him beat you twice at 6:00

  • Comment removed

  • um actually computer didnt do it he did it just frame by frame like i said tho it really cant be considered cheating ... tas is showing the game at its limits... its only cheating if he compares it to a human play through

  • I prefer straight run throughs. Lol it doesnt compare to human play through? But you just said it wasn't by a computer? I am confused. This is a human play through am i correct?

  • no it doesnt compare to a human beoucouse he can play the game undoable by normal humans example pressing his sword button ever second frame to charge while he is walking... so no the computer isnt playing this he is playing this with the assistance of a computer program that allows him to play thru the game frame by frame

  • this game is so underrated it's not even funny. Best rpg/adventure on the NES. Top-notch graphics and gameplay for it's time. I still have the old cartridge but it doesn't save anymore :( need to change battery i suppose :P

  • This was and is, my all time favorite NES RPG

  • not enough people knew about this game!

  • @meinLiebsterFeind Sad but true :(

However HCBaily has been helping the game out by LPing it :)

  • cyrstalis hero pay it forward and get on stevia

  • I went on a blind date with some chick a few years ago who actually brought this game up out of nowhere, I couldn't believe what I was hearing...until she didn't put out and then I didn't care anymore, even though she mentioned this phenomenal masterpiece haha

  • Best youtube comment ever!

  • Best story ever. Hopefully you meet another one who will mention Crystalis, and will put out. :)

  • haaaaaaaaaaaaaaax!

  • Man, that's bad that I even didn't got NES only some Chinese shit :((

  • Damn. This guy is a freak, even if it is a cheating device. I could never get this far.

  • You're good at the game... but the stop at 9:45 when you died, you didn't have the ball of fire. When you re-loaded the game, you had it and were ready to move on. Cut that part out?

  • Hands down, the greatest NES game of them all.

  • I have to agree with you Crystalis is one of my favorite NES games.

I always thought it deserved a sequel.

  • Im 30. I met my best friend of 20 something years because of this game. Thanks for the video. Brought back many memories.

  • i definitely enjoyed this game. I almost had the game beaten when i had to return it to the video store i rented it from.

  • Absolutely man. Being a proud retro gamer, I can't play games past the SNES era.

  • all games today are about graphics graphics graphics. back then they were about fun fun fun!

  • not really just you. I see same situation in movies.

  • best game of all time!!

  • one of the best games ever made.

  • Yes! When I was a kid every time I went to my aunt's house I would play this. I never actually finished it but I got pretty far. I forgot what the name was but finally after searching on wiki I found the name!

  • Great game!

  • Crystalis, Bermuda Triangle, POW...I love SNK.

  • I've always loved this game and Lagoon for the SNES which always felt like a sequel to this game.

  • DUDE YOU AND ME BOTH! I've ALWAYS loved Lagoon and Crystalis! I had Lagoon on my PsP but the save file got currupt at the castle before the final boss :'[

And I need to get this game. :P

  • Long video. XD

  • My GOD does it have to look so freakin easy?!?! I played this game for days on end as a child, best game ever! Got it for gameboy too, but the music was different and the end was too, but still a great game that belongs to the ages!

  • MY GOD! its just like the advertisement!

  • Where is the last 13 minutes?

  • OMG, I would give hundreds of euro's to have this game [wíth console!!!] again...

  • It's also on gameboy color. Although the original has better music.

  • Get an emulator and a controller, what's the difference?

  • Legality for one. But the biggest issue.. Its "Emulation" that is practically the definition of the word difference. Its trying to be like the original but it is not, its emulating it, and it feels and plays different. Crystalis was a complex game for its time, and no emulator has perfected it yet. there are always sound and grafical errors. Playing on real hardware and a computer are totally different. Why do you think there are so many NES games that still sell for $100s and $1000s?

  • THE BEST THING about this game was if you got high enough in level and went earlier in the game you were actually invincible to the enemies. lol. they would "ding" off of you.. loved it.

  • i played this game so much as a kid. i remember everytime i got new magic or a bracelet etc... it was AWESOME. greatest nes game alive.

  • WHere can i play this game? I found a website but none of them keep your SAVED game when you come back and you have to restart at the beginning... What is a NES? and how do I play it

  • i hope your not serious. but if you are NES stands for nintendo entertainment system. to legitly play this game you have to buy an nes, and a copy of this game, probably found at used game stores, or pawn shops. otherwise you need an emulator and the rom.

  • Imagine how long this must have taken at the slowed down speed...

Man, I loved this game. I can't figure out why so few people have heard of it.

  • I used to play this game every mornig before catchin the bus to go to school. Brings back so many memories. I must have been in 7th or 6th grade.

  • I did to man. I could play it again, but unlike a year ago where I could hit the NES a few times to make it work it doesn't anymore.

  • You can download NES emulators and play it on your computer or even your phone, you should google it, sure you will find something, thats what I have

  • good thing is that you dont need the NES anymore, you can just download an emulator online and play all the games, but yea i would rather prefer the NES and its original controls but fuck it as long as i get to play the games i dont give a fuck if i have to use the keyboard, fuck it

  • download nestopia and play it for free without hitting the computer.

  • It's buggy, has some annoyances, glitches, confusing points when you don't know where to go or what to do... but God, I love this game so much. I just can't imagine beating in this fast, even if I was capable... I gotta read everything and talk to everybody. This is just an astounding time. Beating Crystalis in ONE SITTING??! Even tool-assisted, it's an impressive feat.

  • Whats tool assisted?

  • Tool assisted means he cheated. Note the way he's facing away from the enemy he shoots, and how he knows exactly where the Big Bat's going to be. Not to mention how quickly he navigates the menu. Not humanly possible.

  • also, when he is riding on the dolphins back he just jumps off and floats up the waterfall without goggles.

i can't figure that part out now even though i beat the game years ago.

  • well its like this tas really cant be considered cheating... tas is showing the game at its limits... its cheating if he compares it to a human playthrough record tho

  • THE BEST GAME EVER MADE!

  • great game. I like it.

  • :O 52:25

    ............

  • This is, in my opinion, the best game ever made. It's what got me into gaming all those years ago.

  • They just don't make games as good as this anymore!

  • Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear series, Legend of Zelda...need I go on? :)

  • crystalis beats them

  • THats like saying cow patties are good.

  • this game owns zelda and zelda 2 combined

  • it's like tmont has played this game 100 times

  • i totally loved this game when i was younger, i still have it but nes is dead =[

  • Buy a new 72 pin connector for less than 10 bucks on ebay and do a search on how to repair your NES...or just buy a NES with the new connector already installed from a seller.

  • Best...RPG...ever

  • Yep! Squaresoft was highly influenced by this game when they were developing Secret of Mana. You can tell too. Squaresoft wouldn't have been what it is without this game. The only thing I have to add is that I believe the only game that surpasses Crystalis is Chrono Trigger.

  • I could sense some Crystalis influence too in Square's 1990s rpgs.

  • Thank you obsessive compulsive disorder and energy drinks?

  • at 10:10 he smacks something, CLERN, then at 10:20, CLERN CLERN CLERN CLERN CLERN CLERN, doing that repititiously when i was a kid used to f'ing tick people off, haha

  • One of the best games for the NES!

  • o this was the best game ever

  • Using the 2 controller cheat and warping to a ton of different places in the game was a great way to make gold and exp. This game was so much fun and a true classic.

  • I just played through this game again. Inspired, of course, by this!

  • :O! i just had a orgasm!

  • Great galloping goombas! This was amazing!

But there was so much emulator manipulating... XD

I'd like to see a speedrun done on the actual NES. =p

  • wheres the 2nd part!??

  • How did you cure the dolphin at 25:38 it looks like you used the fog lamp.

  • Crystalis is a great game!!. Nice run webnations.

  • Crystalis is a great game!!. Nice run webnations.

  • Crystalis is a great game!!. Nice run webnations.

  • Im using this game as a guide, to get far into the game faster, but i ahve a problem. Right off the bat i get 100 gold, just like you no problem. But in MY version of the game the flute costs 50 and the boots cost 60, however YOU buy both with that 100, so you must have a different version? i have no idea. anyone know about this.

  • WOW!!! you man is so awesome. I already playerd this game and it tool me more then 1 week to finish it, and you, only 39 min lol

  • I fucking loved this game. Out of all the people I know, I'm the only one I know that ever played it. Just the sound track takes me back to sitting in my room as a kid playing this shit for hours on end.

    Fucking awesome.

Makes me wish I still had it. I would probably go play it right now.

  • First great rpg. Period.

  • WHAT A CHEAT! At what point did you obtain the Ball Of Fire by killing the insect in the Poison Forest Maze? At 9:40 it's not in your inventory. At that point, you die, continue the game. Then at 9:54 you enter West Mt Sabre and now you have it? WTF.

  • dont be stupid he gets it from the village chief after returning the child, look at about 7:20 for the message.

  • he gets the sword not the ball ,fool , its a cheat and deeplits is right at least try to go fair and square.

  • I agree. even when he goes to the second town, it 'looks' like he buys tons of boots but the seller keeps saying 'u dont ahve neough money' whihc is true he doesnt, his cash doesnt go down. but soon u see his inventory, it is filled withy like 9 of them WTF i call hax as well.

  • it says tool-assisted in the descrip.

  • he is right watch closely. Fire can charge up to 1, so it cant break ice walls yet. he gets a level up (max 300 xp to max out of 700), still fire level 1, he dies, game over, continue game, BAM he is in same spot but now with fire level 2. where did the orb come from!

  • It is simply frightening how fast you can get through this game! I always loved Crystalis.

  • I believe it should be noted that this is a tool assisted run, meaning the player did not play most of the game as you see.

Tool Assisted means using an emulator that basically has the ability to slow-down, load state, and even enter button combinations.

  • 9:19-9:22 proves you are not messing around

  • it has been a long f'ing time since i played this, but i do wanna say your the sword master in this for sure!! good job, man so many memories.

  • What's up with 1:57 - 2:30? I thought my computer was wiggin' out!

Anyway, MAN this brings back memories! I used to play this game like a mofo.

  • Oh I see...experience points. Nevermind!

  • I'm glad I read the comments first and found out this wasn't the whole video. I would have been rather disappointed and pissed to know I sat through a movie and didn't get to see the end.

  • I just watched the entire thing then read your comment. :|

  • WOW, is all i can say, your menu nevigation skills are untouchable....and the style of killing enemies with the 1/2 charge finishing blow is a nice touch and time saver......i loved this video and this game, nice job......but i do notice a little "turbo-button" action here and there, you beat it faster than i could with a game genie. grats

  • I'm trying to figure out how he skipped the Insect Boss and got the Ball of Fire using a save/death trick.

  • ummmmmmmmmmmmm post the second PART!!!!

  • please visit our site and use the download or online stream there for seeing the full vid.

  • You cockteaser. Why can't you just upload it here! :(

  • It's called a tease. You go to their site, sign up for it (whether it costs a fee or not), get tons of spam and only then will you get to see the remaining video.

  • well not true at all. you do not have to register for downloading the full movies and you will not get any spam.

  • well, that's still no good reason to not post the whole vid. People just end up distrusting and disliking you.

  • It's kinda pointless now to watch the video when I can't download stuff like this when I'm not at home.

  • What was that glitch on 29:17?? I didn't catch that, it was waaay too fast lol

  • Probably to save time. It's a tool-assisted SPEEDrun, played on an emulator. Read the description ^^

Nive vid btw, this game is still great.

  • wheres the rest of this video? sadly i sat through the whole thing, this being my favorite nes game i figured it would be faster to watch it then to play it again. pretty amazing how you can remember all this crap, not just where to go but how many hits each enemy takes and stuff. only thing i didnt get was there was a few times you died on purpose what was the point of that?
