Yes, there is something about G. Butler...so dye his hair red, use extensions, ETC....He has lost a ton of weight recently, which makes him look taller than his 6'2" frame..(Jamie was 6' 4") small details....soft lighting could make him look younger for the first book (age 23-26) but after that Jamie was in his 40's. so there you go !!! My first choice !!!!

This is by far the best Gerry portrayed Jamie video I have seen so far. The emotions through the books, the expressions, it captures every essence that you find in Jamie. The music only heightens every point and it works brilliantly with the montage that you almost don't even notice the non-Outlander role and you can almost SEE it being Jamie and Outlander. I am almost speechless and it hurts that I'm scared the movie will never see what this captures in a short few minutes.
Gerard Butler I am sorry to say is to old for this role. My prefect Jamie is Henry Cavill, he was brilliant in the Tudors, and his performance in this series convinced me that he is perfect to play Jamie.

Boy alot of support for Gerard Butler! I hate to be the one to dissent but I cant see him at all and one of the main reasons is his age. Now if age didn't count, I'd go with Liam Neeson, he's seems to be, physically the best of the bunch to play Jamie. But again just too old.
Gerard Butler IS Jamie Butler re-incarnated - no question........Naomi Watts is an intelligent choice for Claire. This is not about beauty but character and Gerard and Naomi would be a fabulous pair!

Is there really a movie called Outlander? because I haven't seen it. I do agree that a series would be good so that every word of every book can be used to justify the beautiful story. But even movies that carry on in parts would also be good, as long every word is used.
@scrumptiousmommy There are at least two Gerard movies upthere. One is a tv series about Attilla the Hun, the other one is Beowulf and Grendel. I think the one with the British soldiers is Rob Roy with Liam Neeson.

This is several movies joined together, Gerard Butler without the chainmail is from Attila the Hun, with the chainmail is from Beowulf and Grendal and the scenes with the red-coats in it is from Rob-Roy which Gerard Butler is not in (that's Liam Neeson that's being dragged along behind the horse).

Rachel Weitz and Gerard Butler would be PERFECT for the characters of Jamie and Claire!!!! I love both actors and on the plus side they CAN BOTH ACT!!!!
I love Gerard Butler; he is one of my favorite actors. I can't think of anyone better for the role! I am so excited for this to be done, whether it's a movie or a t.v. series.
People who believe Gerad Butler is too young to play Jamie forget that Hollywood can and does age people daily for their movies. I think Gerard would be exceptional in this role from a very young man to a man in his 70 s or 80s.

i think gerard butler would play jamie perfectly only because these days they never match any of the characters the way they used to but stature wise gerard has the same body type as jamie has the accent and has very nice eyes but this is just my opinion:)

Jaime needs to be someone very tall and broad shouldered. In the books he is a bit younger than Claire. Claire has to have very curly hair and Jaime has to have long red hair! The movie just won't follow the books details about the characters which is a huge part of why we all love the series so much.

Boy alot of support for Gerard Butler! I hate to be the one to dissent but I cant see him at all and one of the main reasons is his age. Now if age didn't count, I'd go with Liam Neeson, he's seems to be, physically the best of the bunch to play Jamie. But again just too old.

Gerard Butler IS Jamie Butler re-incarnated - no question........Naomi Watts is an intelligent choice for Claire. This is not about beauty but character and Gerard and Naomi would be a fabulous pair!

Gerard Butler is the Jamie Frazer, pleazzzzzzz let it be him, he is perrrrrfect for the part. I like the girl Russell as Claire as well. Is there really a movie called Outlander? because I haven't seen it. I do agree that a series would be good so that every word of every book can be used to justify the beautiful story. But even movies that carry on in parts would also be good, as long every word is used.

@scrumptiousmommy There are at least two Gerard movies upthere. One is a tv series about Attilla the Hun, the other one is Beowulf and Grendel. I think the one with the British soldiers is Rob Roy with Liam Neeson.

I love it all. Hell yes, your choices are right on music and all. But if they don't make the movie soon our Gerard will be to old. Jaime was supposed to be and older looking 23 year old not geriatric. I read somewhere that someone bought the rights to make a movie or series the rights ending in 2009 well we're 2010 so someone else should get on with it already.

This is several movies joined together, Gerard Butler without the chainmail is from Attila the Hun, with the chainmail is from Beowulf and Grendal and the scenes with the red-coats in it is from Rob-Roy which Gerard Butler is not in (that's Liam Neeson that's being dragged along behind the horse).

People who believe Gerad Butler is too young to play Jamie forget that Hollywood can and does age people daily for their movies. I think Gerard would be exceptional in this role from a very young man to a man in his 70 s or 80s.

I don't think he's too old either. Unless people read the books, they wouldn't know how old Jamie is supposed to be. Just like they might not mention Jamie being a virgin(in the first book) because it doesn't really matter. He is the best Jamie!

I don´t understand why a lot of people think Gerry Butler is too old for playing Jamie (ok maybe for the Jamie in the first book) but what about the Jamie when Claire returns?Brianna is around 20 at the time so Jamie is over 40 and everybody will surely know that people for more than 200 years ago looked a lot older than they were ! Even with Claire´s advice to brush the teeth with a branch ;-)!And don´t underestimate what make up artists and colored contact linses can do

i think gerard butler would play jamie perfectly only because these days they never match any of the characters the way they used to but stature wise gerard has the same body type as jamie has the accent and has very nice eyes but this is just my opinion:)

ich bin sowieso der meinung, das man eine serie draus machen sollte, das ist viel zu viel stoff, um das in einen film pro buch zu packen
aber ich bezweifle, das butler dann mitmachen würde und ohne butler geht es nicht ...er oder keiner!^^

Jaime needs to be someone very tall and broad shouldered. In the books he is a bit younger than Claire. Claire has to have very curly hair and Jaime has to have long red hair! The movie just won't follow the books details about the characters which is a huge part of why we all love the series so much.

As Gerard gets older I think he should still be older Jamie- however check out Andy Whitfield from Spartacus Blood and Sand- in the first episode he has long hair and he could be Jamie- BLUE CAT EYES AND ALL! :)

Hmmm....I don't know. Gerard is a good actor and scottish and very good looking but i just cannot picture him as Jamie. I totally agree with somethinggnaws for saying we need someone new and unheard of......what better way to launch your career than playing Jamie Fraser! :D You know, as soon as this movie comes out, Edward Cullen and Jacob Black will be a thing of the past......good cause im sick of them bad cause EVERYONE will want Jamie >:( OUTRAGE!!!! :D

I totally agree that if the "right" Jamie is found for this movie, no other film character will be able to measure up. Which is the rub, right? Has to be the RIGHT actor to play the part. I'm beginning to agree that the way to go is with an unknown, someone who will be every woman's fantasy, that also hasn't played Attila, Beowulf, etc.

Gerard Butler is in his 40s and IS too old to play a 23 year old. Although, he is sooo HOTT!
Rachel Weitz and maybe even Kate Winslet as Claire is perfect.
Liam Neeson for Colum and Sean Bean for his brother.
Hardishardis is pretty good with picking good actors though and I love his/her videos on Outlander. Even the music is awesome!

Only in the two first books Jamie is in his early twenties.
In the rest of them he's 40 and over.
So in fact Gerard Butler is perhaps ideal for the role, unless they use just the first two books.
