  • Barbara Rhoades was so unbelievably beautiful

  • Wallet!

  • @lyingmongoose That would have been my answer too.

  • No one said "hair". I'm shocked.

  • I'm surprised nobody said "wallet" (or something like that). It would have been a bad answer, but I'm still surprised nobody said it.

  • I thought Avery was Lou Albano

  • The funniest bit is at 1:17 when Avery just cracks up at the contestant's answer.

  • OH MY! At least Patti deutsch would have said something tasteful, like "nether bits."

  • she could have wrote the short version of the name "richard"

  • what was the answer?

  • Barbara Rhodes and Richard Dawson had my answer because I knew the majority of them were probably thinking it but I didn't expect Marcia Wallace to literally have "the cojones" to write "genitalia" in the hopes of letting it pass! Way to go Marcia!

  • thats why i banned people saying penis on tv because of back when they censored it blacking it out

  • Naomi looks like Lauryn Hill!

  • They would never censor that word nowadays. Different times back then. She might have gotten away with using the answer: Peter.

  • Picture of JUGHEAD'S HAT = CENSORED

  • Marcia DID write "genitalia". And if I'm not mistaken, the producer censor yelled "Cut!"

What other answers did CBS' censors forbid from being used and would they banned today?

  • Avery reminds me a bit of Rip Taylor. Am I alone in that?

  • @PathOfLeaves I see it!

  • @MiroCenturia Hehe, were you thinking that he was going to throw confetti?

  • The first celebrity by the name of AVERY used to be in a potato chips tv ad and played a role in one of those 70's airplane disaster movies where he was the father or something of a def girl.

    Anyone know his name?

  • @kinoptika Avery Schreiber.

  • @kinoptika A comedy legend, Avery started at Second City as part of an extremely well-known comic duo known as Burns and Schreiber with a series of comedy albums, TV appearances and their own TV variety show. Classic TV fans may know him from MY MOTHER THE CAR and CHICO AND THE MAN. (His comedy partner Jack Burns played deputy sheriff Warren Ferguson on Andy Griffith show and was once teamed up with George Carlin as Burns and Carlin).

  • @Gnillob802 ...And, Jack Burns went on to be the on-camera announcer on the ABC TV comedy show, Fridays. (In one of the most memorable episodes, he angrily chased Andy Kaufman around the stage on the show Kaufman was purposely screwing up.)

  • @Mickagume Jack Burns was more than just the on-camera announcer; he was the Executive Producer.

  • @darrinbaker00 That's right!...(I had forgotten. Thanks for jogging my memory.)

  • @kinoptika Search "Burns and Schreiber" - you'll find some funny routines.

  • @kinoptika

The avery you are trying to remember is Avery Schreiber he was a verry funny guy. he passed away in 2002.

    R I P

  • @kinoptika I remember Avery from the 70s Doritos commercials ;)

  • Sooner or later, Marcia Wallace was bound to snap! Also i'd like to let everybody know that Richard Dawson is a snob...

  • @TimelordR I'm sure if you had any talent people would think you were a snob too...

  • I remember Marcia Wallace when she was also on "Full House" where she played "Mrs. Caruthers" on several episodes.

  • Avery is really John C. Reilly from a time warp!

  • @judyneric What's that supposed to mean?

  • @hallpriest9 look up John c. Reilly, looks a lot like him

  • Ha she was the first person to submit her answer

  • Mmmmm!! The chic in the green blouse is Barbara Rhoades(sp?) who was the "Penelope"or "Bad Penney" from the Don Knotts movie "Shakiest Gun in the West." She was also the BFF to Marsha Mason in "The Goodbye Girl." Delicious!

  • Me too - I thought of "pecker!!"

  • I couldn't stand living in America, with their television censorship.

  • @sweiland75 i support censorship i support having rules and prcedures

  • @floridaman2000 So you are against normal things in life. Anyone will tell you that life is full of mucus, snot, spit, bathrooms, urine, blood, death. Life is not all a bunch of happy smile dancing under rainbows in care bear land.

  • @Jopo1226 censorship is to keep things civilized

  • @floridaman2000 Yes you are right things are just peachy in the world. Censoring things like a body part or rihnanna's S and M song is ruining the world, but allowing people cutting other people up and torturing is ok to show to 13 year olds. All Marcia said was something you have and look at everyday anyway it was not like she gutted a human out.

  • @Jopo1226 people being beheaded and shit like that should be censored ok let me ask you this, why should things NEVER be censored? what good is it if we NEVER censored anything

  • @floridaman2000 I don't things should never be censored, but average shows/movies that are themed toward adults do not need too be overly censored. We have V-chips and parental controls for all that it is on the parents to control what their children watch not the FCC. If a movie is rated-R and airs on TV it shouldn't censor words and such, cause R-rated movies should only be watched by adults. Why should I or many other suffer for like 2% of bad parents?

  • @Jopo1226 what about this instance should the word in this video be censored?

  • @floridaman2000 NO! It is a part of the body just like your doctor will say your penis

  • It's been confirmed that she wrote "Genitalia"

  • loaded question

  • Not since the 70s have I seen that funny lookin' Avery dude. Didn't he used to do the Tostitos commercials? Maybe Pringles chips?

  • @rever65 Yep, he did a lot of Doritos commercial. He's Avery Schrieber.

  • to me, this begs the answer PENIS. why would they use this question if they had the ban on genitalia answers??

  • @blozier2006 Because that was the entire point.

  • @AdamNedeff So Marcia violated the ban, then?

  • @blozier2006 Thats the point... they have so many dirty questions like this... this isn't the first time someone broke and said something "naughty"

  • @blozier2006 Isn't that what Marsha wrote on her card, that got the "oops?"

  • @blozier2006 it is penis, you can see the E on the card behind the oops!

  • At 3:00, just before the OOPS took over, it looks like there is an 'e' and a 't' on the card... makes me believe she said erection.

  • she said penis or pecker

  • Wow, they're no fun.

  • I didn't know that Marcia was the voice of Edna Krabappel on the Simpsons.

  • Now *this* is quality TV!

  • in 1998 they let Judy Tenuta say Dick

  • the 98 version was awful because of the blatant filth

  • i cant tell

    marcia said penis right?

  • @looney1023 no, she said "genitalia"

  • @looney1023 Actually, my understanding is that they are not permitted to use the genitalia or any word used to refer to it as their answer.

  • it looks like she said poop, i saw between the O and saw "p"

  • How good an answer would "hair" be? Also, what was Marcia's answer, and who is the fourth panelist?

  • @hallpriest9 Barbara Rhodes was the 4th panelise

  • They would have allowed an answer like "Willie" I bet

  • No they wouldn't. There was a GSN documentary a few years ago about "Match Game," where a staff member talked about having to brief the contestants before each taping. I'm paraphrasing, but she said the most important thing she had to cover each time was "I don't care if you think you have the cutest euphemism in the world for it, don't give THAT for an answer."

  • @FlamingoKicker Peepee, weiner or johnson.

  • Marcia's answer was the one I thought of immediately...shows how times change

  • I saw this episode.

I fell off my chair, mostly because of the big OOPS! they put up.

  • the 98 version would definitely say the no-no word, in fact, all 5 panelists would say it

  • i wish we'd get with the times and choose a giant lavender "OOPS" in favour of black boxes/blurred pixels.

  • Oh, come on, don't act so taken aback, America of the past. You were all thinking it.

  • OOPS!

  • The 98 version would allow it.

  • The '98 version had no redeeming qualities.

  • @flokatirug They aired the '98 version at 3:00am where I live! I guess that's why!

  • some of those questions are naughty

  • I remember Marcia Wallace talking about this incident on "Match Game: Behind the Blank", and it was even funnier seeing the actual event on YouTube!!!!

  • Anybody got the episode in which the contestant says "Bar Mitzvahed" for circumcision?

  • Ha ha. I think Marcia gave the real definitive answer for that one.

  • But the network prohibited any mention of the male anatomy.

  • actually she could have written

    his "dickie dawson"

and the joke would have had double meaning as Richard Dawson was sitting next to her, and he made a comment about his own "height"

I love this show, I always laught, everyone on the show is usually drunk, especially dick dawson

  • Episode was on today.

  • Actually some things were more liberal in the 70's, in the 1974 TV Movie Mrs. Sundance Robert Foxworth mooned Liz Montgomery. Check out Liz's password appearance where she says the word cock in 1979 so I wouldn't say the 70's were more uptight.

  • It's 1975 tv.

  • for gods sake just say it... COCK!!!!

  • Richard knew what the answer already was by the judgment of his supposed unexplained laughter.

  • All she had to say was private parts and it would not have been censored, but would have gotten just as big a laugh.

  • Nope, would have never made it pass the censors in the 70s. The word on the card was "Genitalia" and still got censored.

  • thx. cuz this episode was on today and I was wondering what she wrote on there

  • Wow. Richard, Brett, and Charles. Those guys were the trio.

  • The contestants and the celebrities were always told what words were not allowed on the air.

Marcia knew this but still went for the laugh.

  • Marcia is so funny!

  • avery looks like super mario lmao

  • lmao

  • "This seems to be the definitive answer anyway" (Opps! & Slide whistle) The others: *Laugh*

  • It's the only answer I could think of!

  • Amen! ^^

  • Marcia was the first one done. She went for the obvious :-)

  • Today, that answer gets 6-for-6 guaranteed.

  • Comment removed

  • Pity, isn't it?

  • Well loosing 3inches off ur dick IS unfortunate....thankfully I never had to suffer that! :-)

  • Look its Mrs Krabappel, Marcia Wallace.

  • Marcia Marcia Marcia! LOL at her answer!

  • I remember watching this episode and Marcia's answer was the only thing I could think of. I like how Richard is laughing before she shows her answer. Also like the OOPS! and the sound effect used

  • that is one freaking huge microphone, and alittle skinny if i say so myself, lol =)

  • By the way, I saw on a Match Game fansite what the bleeped out answer was. It was genitalia. And did you see Richard's laugh before Marcia revealed her answer?

  • How Richard was laughing was funny...
