Barbara Rhodes and Richard Dawson had my answer because I knew the majority of them were probably thinking it but I didn't expect Marcia Wallace to literally have "the cojones" to write "genitalia" in the hopes of letting it pass! Way to go Marcia!
The first celebrity by the name of AVERY used to be in a potato chips tv ad and played a role in one of those 70's airplane disaster movies where he was the father or something of a def girl.
@kinoptika A comedy legend, Avery started at Second City as part of an extremely well-known comic duo known as Burns and Schreiber with a series of comedy albums, TV appearances and their own TV variety show. Classic TV fans may know him from MY MOTHER THE CAR and CHICO AND THE MAN. (His comedy partner Jack Burns played deputy sheriff Warren Ferguson on Andy Griffith show and was once teamed up with George Carlin as Burns and Carlin).
@Gnillob802 ...And, Jack Burns went on to be the on-camera announcer on the ABC TV comedy show, Fridays. (In one of the most memorable episodes, he angrily chased Andy Kaufman around the stage on the show Kaufman was purposely screwing up.)
Mmmmm!! The chic in the green blouse is Barbara Rhoades(sp?) who was the "Penelope"or "Bad Penney" from the Don Knotts movie "Shakiest Gun in the West." She was also the BFF to Marsha Mason in "The Goodbye Girl." Delicious!
@floridaman2000 So you are against normal things in life. Anyone will tell you that life is full of mucus, snot, spit, bathrooms, urine, blood, death. Life is not all a bunch of happy smile dancing under rainbows in care bear land.
@floridaman2000 Yes you are right things are just peachy in the world. Censoring things like a body part or rihnanna's S and M song is ruining the world, but allowing people cutting other people up and torturing is ok to show to 13 year olds. All Marcia said was something you have and look at everyday anyway it was not like she gutted a human out.
@Jopo1226 people being beheaded and shit like that should be censored ok let me ask you this, why should things NEVER be censored? what good is it if we NEVER censored anything
@floridaman2000 I don't things should never be censored, but average shows/movies that are themed toward adults do not need too be overly censored. We have V-chips and parental controls for all that it is on the parents to control what their children watch not the FCC. If a movie is rated-R and airs on TV it shouldn't censor words and such, cause R-rated movies should only be watched by adults. Why should I or many other suffer for like 2% of bad parents?
No they wouldn't. There was a GSN documentary a few years ago about "Match Game," where a staff member talked about having to brief the contestants before each taping. I'm paraphrasing, but she said the most important thing she had to cover each time was "I don't care if you think you have the cutest euphemism in the world for it, don't give THAT for an answer."
@AdamNedeff "a staff member talked about having to brief the contestants before each taping"
Guess they neglected to brief the panelists, though. But, then again, they could always bleep out a given panelist (as they did with Marcia). Doing the same with a contestant's answer would really $%&@ up the show.
I remember Marcia Wallace talking about this incident on "Match Game: Behind the Blank", and it was even funnier seeing the actual event on YouTube!!!!
Actually some things were more liberal in the 70's, in the 1974 TV Movie Mrs. Sundance Robert Foxworth mooned Liz Montgomery. Check out Liz's password appearance where she says the word cock in 1979 so I wouldn't say the 70's were more uptight.
I remember watching this episode and Marcia's answer was the only thing I could think of. I like how Richard is laughing before she shows her answer. Also like the OOPS! and the sound effect used
By the way, I saw on a Match Game fansite what the bleeped out answer was. It was genitalia. And did you see Richard's laugh before Marcia revealed her answer?
