  • thanks! this helped me a lot. i thought i had lost 25 bucks to the thrift shop lol. i got it fixed in about 10 mins :P

  • What kind of wire did you use?

  • im about to buy an untested model 2 off ebay so im studying all the "how to" videos just incase

  • Thank you for the video! Followed your video and was able to fix my Sega CD!

  • @cleetose That is great! I am glad my video was able to help!

  • Thanks Sir! I watched your video and fixed my Sega CD

  • @GamerMatwevias Awesome! I am glad I was able to help! -Tighe

  • I have a spare that doesn't work as well. This video is just what I might be looking for!

    Great info!

  • @oodestroo Well if the fuse is blown then it won't work at all. So if the Sega CD powers on then replacing the fuse won't fix it.

  • @tigheklory It doesn't power up at all. I was going through my collection the other day to sell on kijiji. So in the process of testing everything, my 1 sega cd didn't power up at all. So this might be the fix. I hope anyway. lol

  • @oodestroo Sounds like that is the problem!

  • well i have a problem where i turn my saturn on the the screen wont come up it jus happened to me like 10 min ago how do i fix? and the disc reader didnt make a noise when it turned on.

  • good video

  • Thanks a bunch, took about 10 minutes to fix, used the parts you referenced from Radio Shack!

  • @theenternal I am glad you were able to save it!

  • wow, great video. I am in the exact same boat. I have two non-working sega cds. I have just ordered a few 2.5 amp fuses, but am trying to learn how to solder everything right. Do you have any suggestions for me? I am really inexperienced with that kind of stuff, but am eager to learn. I just got a 30W solder gun and am practicing to get it right. Again, great job. I enjoyed the vid.

  • @johnfran29 I would say pratice soldering on some broken electronics. I am sending you a link too.

  • Wow! Amazing work!

  • @Bylga Thanks! I really appreciate it!

  • Wow! That power strip is O...L...D. My aunt and uncle still have that exact same one. Strange. Anyway, I was curious what the purpose of the fuse is in that particular circuit. What is it protecting? Input voltage?

  • @YourMKArcadeSource LOL yes that is a old PC monitor stand/power switch. It works great on my workbench with my soldering iron and desoldering iron. I can see which are on with the lights.

Yes it is protecting against spikes on the input voltage. Not that there was one, it seems that the fuse has a limited lifespan.

  • I fixed a blown fuse in a couple of SNES systems before. They blow very easily, especially if you don't discharge the unit, by powering it on with the power disconnected.

If you ever need any fuses for that just let me know... I bought a ton of them (1.5 amp picofuse).

Have fun with your Sega-CD!! :)

  • Nice job Tighe. I still enjoy a Sega-CD game every once in a while. Earthworm Jim Special Edition and Final Fight CD are worth it just for the great soundtracks.

I recently took my SCD 5in1 Classic Pack and replaced all the music on Golden Axe with the remixed soundtrack from the Sony PS2 Sega Ages release. It's really what Sega should have done instead of trying to remake the entire thing...and failing! :P

Also, there is an app that will make import games region free for the Sega CD.

  • @videogameobsession Humm... I want to replace the music with some Pantera!

  • how did you remove the fuse?

  • Good tip!

    - Rob

  • @MoreDakka101 Thanks!

  • Cool repair!

  • @mcpentland Thanks! I was physced to be able to play Silpheed, Lunar, and Sonic CD again! MK1 on the Sega CD is the best home version too. Of course now I have the real thing, it doesn't matter.

  • @tigheklory lol True! Is repair just a hobby for you? I'd love to do more. Very rewarding!

  • @mcpentland I would say a Hobby out of necessity, I always have things that I want to fix up, or mod.

  • @tigheklory Speaking of Mods...do you know of an easy mod for the PS2 allowing Import games to play. I don't like the Magic Swap Disc route. Want a way to make my PS2 completely region free...if possible.

  • @mcpentland ask my friend, his user id videogameobsession, he knows that stuff really well. Just tell him I told you to ask.

  • @mcpentland I prefer the Independence Exploit memcard exploit since it doesn't alter your PS2's original menus like the Free McBoot does.

Just Google for info on it. It makes things a lot easier if you have a friend with a modded PS2 to prepare the drive and mem card for you.

The trickiest part might be finding a compatible hard drive (I suggest a 500GB). Again, there is a compatibility list online.

So all you need is an original PSX game (any will work), PS2 mem card, and IDE hdd + exploit.

  • @videogameobsession Thanks for the info! I have a copy of Darkstalkers Collection...which needs to be played! No idea why Capcom never made a U.S. release :(

  • @mcpentland No problem.

They probably didn't release it here based on poor sales of the Darkstalkers Chronicle PSP game.

  • @videogameobsession Too bad. Let the consumer decide. Even a limited release...many great PS2 import games out there!

  • @tigheklory Just picked up a copy of Silpheed for the PS2. Not as good as the Sega CD version but still very fun!

  • @mcpentland I haven't played the PS2 version, I have the Xbox 360 sequel Project Silpheed, while good, isn't a vertical shooter. Nothing beats the original!
