  • Thanks for posting this video. It was very well done, easy to see and follow. Thanks to your video I had no issues replacing the digitizer in my husband's phone for only $7!!!

  • Ugh I stripped the 5th screw I was taking off, do you know of any way to get this screw out? Or is there a way for me to take this first back part off with out taking the middle screw out? I have an extra screw from an LG voyager, I just need to get this screw out.

  • Thanks locoken, nice job, I hope to return the favor sometime. Peace.

  • Thank you very much sir. It was nice of you to take the time to make this video. Also it was put together intelligently.

  • @234dilligaf No problem. Glad I could help!

  • @locoken the internal screen is black the external screen is sometimes black or with lines or like a grey spot in the middle, but they are not cracked so if i replace both screens do you think it would work?

  • very easy to open indeed lots of help

i have a problem with my internal screen think the ribbon might of got wanked

but cant get to where its connected i unhooked it but how do i get to the main piece i wanted to try to attach a new one thanx

  • Thank You Very much on your video! Have some trouble with my screen after taking it on a jet ski "my bad".Thought I could take it apart and maybe fix a loose cable.Didn't help, but it didn't hurt either. Without your video I would not had been able to even attempt it.

Now if I do get a new screen I am confident I can replace it!

Very Well Made Video,Great editing and easy to follow.

    Thanks Again!

  • I installed the screen but i didnt put the gold sticker back on and my touch screen is not working. Is that what is needed for the touch screen to work? i put everything back together and i cant figure out what i did besides not puttinsg the gold sticker back on.If you could help me out that would be great! Thanks!!!

  • @EvilllSlayer I also forgot the gold sticker, but my touchscreen still works. Must be something else.Sorry can't help past that.just thought the info might help

  • where do you recommend purchasing the new digitizer touch screen for this phone ? Happy to see the 'how to' video !

  • Thanks a million for this video! You did an AMAZING job!! THANK YOU!! Make sure you guys have the exact screwdriver for the screws-those things are on tight- I got impatient & tried a random one I bought- wore down the head of 2 screws- what a pain! I went out & bought the right one: I used a Phillips 1.6 mm crosshead screwdriver -bought the "Precision Phillips Screwdriver Set" from RadioShack. Thanks again. Best How-To ever! It worked to perfection!! :)

  • Don't buy the screens from eBay with the tool kit. They come with a torx driver that isn't needed. All the screws are a very small Phillips head. Bought an eyeglass fixing kit just for the screwdriver and it bent so get a small very sturdy Phillips head to do the job. They pry tool is, in my opinion, useless. Use your fingernail, works much better. Also if you have a pair or white gloves, wear them when putting in the screen to avoid finger prints on the inside.

  • @jeepy1964 Good points, Jeepy!

  • @locoken Thank you sir. Just adding to yours. The video helped me do something I wouldn't have been able to do otherwise. Except for the constant rewind and start to get it back together it was priceless. Maybe a video of how to put it back together would be helpful. Again, thanks so much....

  • @jeepy1964 I thought about doing that many times because that is part of replacing the LCD screen. Maybe I'll have to do that just yet. Thanks for the kind words and I will consider doing this real closely to help people out. Sorry I didn't include that in the video before. =(

  • if you dont solder the wire to the speaker, does the speaker still work? when you first take it apart is there a soldered connetion to the speaker?

  • @mfcastro23 The speaker is not soldered. Looks like sticky tape stuff. I used a very small amount of rubber cement and it worked perfect.

  • thanks a lot. i was able to replace the digitizer screen with assistance from your video.

  • @chipmeister111 Glad I could help! You're welcome!

  • at 6:05 on my lever i had tape holding the lever to the ribbon, be very careful in getting the tape off

  • i have a question.. is there any soldering that has to be done when replacing the screen? and something else.. i have my env touch and then i have another one i do not need.. or pretty much can not use.. is it possible to just go ahead and replace the whole top part of the phone, the part that you flip open?

  • @omid15gj The only soldering that is required is attaching the speaker to the new screen. You'll have to un-solder your old speaker from the LCD screen and re-solder it back on the new one. Keep the heat to a minimum so as not to damage the new screen. And to answer your second question: Yes, you can just swap out the tops if the one you can't use is in good working order that is. That saves you some money right there!

  • I'm actually having trouble taking out two screws off of the back, not sure what type of screw driver to use in order to help take them out. Any help?

  • @MrJLD1989 All the screws on this phone are of the torx variety and I'm not exactly sure what size at the moment. I will let you know this evening when my wife gets home with her phone to check. That is a good question and I'm sorry I didn't put the screw sizes in the description. I will do that for you though as soon as I can.

  • I'm having trouble taking off the tiny screws. Any particular type of screw driver needed?

  • @chillwill120 Yes, you'll need some torx screwdrivers. Unfortunately I don't have the sizes you'll need off the top of my head, but will look to see if I can find the ones you'll need off the internet somewhere.

  • where can i buy the actually Lcd screen??

  • @Dovid74 Many people are selling this phone's LCD screen on eBay. There are other places out there on the internet that sell cell phone parts but I found mine on eBay.

  • @Dovid74 eBay is the best place that I've found. I think I paid around $35 for mine. Been awhile so I can't be for sure.

  • what do you do if you strip out the second screw on disassembly??

  • @number1yota Oooooooh.......Well, one way to get it out is to use a torx driver that is one size bigger and go slowly. Put downward pressure at the same time and it may just screw right out. If that doesn't work, I've seen people use a tiny bit of epoxy and glue a small torx driver to the screw to remove it as if the driver was inserted the way you would to remove the screw. Never tried this myself but it may work as well if the first option doesn't work. If I find another way, I'll post it.

  • Great vid man. If I am just replacing the (touch screen Digitizer) do I have to take phone apart or can that come off w/o doing this whole process?

  • @guno89 If you can get to the two screws that I point to @ 4:11 without taking all the aforementioned things apart, you'll have to do the whole process. These two screws allow you to get the digitizer screen off in the next step. Just take your time and you'll do just fine. =)

  • ok good cause cause like the whole screen now ids pitch black but everything else still worksy

  • well it work if the phone has water damage?

  • @Cicrasurvivefan000 I have had good results with phones that have been washed in the washer or gotten wet before by taking them apart into as many pieces as I could and letting them air dry on a counter for a few days. Then I put them back together and charge it for another full day or more and believe or not, most phones have worked flawlessly after that. Not all have mind you but most have. If your phone got wet by something other than water (soda, alcohol, etc.) you may be out of luck.

  • So, I didn't fully understand the bit about the speaker and the soldiering. My girlfriend accidentally broke her screen and im fixing her phone for her. So, I'm guessing that she just won't be able to use that speaker, but I have no idea what that speaker is for. Is that the speaker used for ringtones? Or is that just for speakerphone? Plz help (:

  • @bRADnaptime You can use that speaker if you have two soldering connections on the screen. The one I used in this video for some reason didn't come with both connections which meant it wouldn't work no matter what I did. Just solder the two wires back onto the new screen in the order they were on the old screen and you should be good. Just be careful not to overheat the screen when re-soldering the speaker back on as you may damage it. Hope that helps!

  • This was VERy helpful! But I need to replace the digitizer, and cant seem to get it out to replace it. Im not quite comfortable with prying it out, which does seem how I will have to do it but Im afraid, lol.

  • @euparkeeria

I just finished it. The digitizer from touch screen was VERY difficult to pry out. Just had to really be forceful with it. Easy to reconnect and it work properly! Thank you for your awesome video!

  • @euparkeeria You're welcome! Glad you liked it!

  • @euparkeeria How do I know if the issue is due to a broken LCD screen or a broken digitizer? The front touch screen is cracked. There are no visible cracks on the outer part of the screen but it is the layer underneath the touch screen that has cracks. When my phone is on, I see random colors on the touch screen. The screen is still responsive to buttons when I press them (I've memorized where the buttons are), but I cannot see what I am supposed to see on the front screen anymore. :(

  • @Bittersweet123 I would think that if you can still use the touch screen its not the digitizer. The digitizer is actually on top and the lcd is underneath, so that it probably whats busted. That is also pretty easy to replace. Just be careful! Actually I think that the LCD will be easier to replace! you dont have to pry the frame off!

  • @euparkeeria UPDATE! Since I had to pry the digitizer off of the outer frame, the sticky pad that made it difficult to separate them got all torn up and now I got dust and dirt inside of the screen between the digitizer and the lcd. It doesnt effect the digitizer at all, just looks bad in there!

  • @euparkeeria thanks! I think you are right-- it must be the LCD!

  • @Bittersweet123 Yep, Bittersweet is right. It's the LCD screen and it's not that hard to replace. Just follow the directions in my video and you'll be just fine. That's the part that I had to replace when my wife used her phone as a doorstop in her car, hence the reason I made this video. =)

  • @euparkeeria I see you have already found a way to get it out with force so nothing new to post here. Glad you got your phone back up and running!

  • Mission Accomplished,Thanks very very much. By the way, 30 watt iron worked great on the speaker leads. Again Many Thanks..

  • @56bgfish You're very welcome, 56! Thanks for the information, too!

  • @locoken

What is the function of this speaker? What functions will be lost if it's not connected.

    Great video-clear and concise

  • @56bgfish locoken

What is the function of this speaker? What functions will be lost if it's not connected.

  • @camden1129 The only function that will be lost is the use of that speaker if you don't reconnect the wires for that speaker.

  • the connector your pointing to on 10:47 ripped completeny any way of fixing or any store that sell that part... when i call someone i have to use speaker phone. Please any help or info would be useful:) thanks

  • @oXHaloManXo I would look for that on eBay. There are stores out there on eBay that sell other parts than just the digitizer screen and the lcd screen but you have to search for them. I will do some searching for you as well and see if I can't find something. I'm sorry you ripped that cable. Hoping we can find something to fix it for you.

  • @locoken After doing a search, the only thing I've found right now is parts phones that you can get that part from. This could be a great way to get other parts that you may need should something else go wrong. Hope you get your phone back up and running!

  • Ok it's apart... NOW WHAT???

Ha just kidding.. in and out including soldering the new speaker in well under an hour. Major props El loco one.

    Thanks

By the way, this seller had one with both solder points, free shipping, a screwdriver (wrong one though lol) Case removal tool, and is in USA so I got mine in 2 days. $33

  • @amacfaden You're too funny! Hey, it is a pleasure being able to help people out. Most can figure this out with a little time and common sense, but it does help to do things sometimes with a video or guide to cut down on "down" time. Love the humor, amac! I'll be doing another cell phone "fixit" video here on the Blackberry Torch. Cracked digitizer screen and damaged bezel frame. Hope to get that video up in the next week. Take it easy!

  • @locoken Hope you are not being plagued with questions about this, but I have one. My enV just took a crap. I was wondering if you might know if it is the display screen or the digitizer cover screen. When I try to slide the electronic safety screen up nothing happens. The touch screen is not functionable anymore. It lights up and displays alright, but does not allow finger functions anymore. Would that be the display as in your video or the clear screen that your finger actually touches? TIA

  • @bigbullseye I would say that the digitizer screen is malfunctioning. They are pretty easy to come by on eBay and for not much money as well. It can't hurt to replace it and won't break the bank in doing so.

  • ok i cant get my speakers to work...what should i do ?....and i also forgot to put that gold tapeback in ..what will that hurt ?

  • @Flashnate It sounds like you may have a loose connection on your speakers. And I'm not going to say that your phone will incur damages from not putting the protective tape back in but it does serve a purpose. It is probably a good idea to keep it there if it was there from the manufacturer. It kinda sounds like you'll have to open your phone back up and check the speaker connections, as well as put the gold tape back in. =)

  • ok i cant get my speakers to work...what should i do ?

  • Dude, you were awesome with this video. I watched it as I replaced my LCD screen and paused it along the way. You made this a really simple process with very good detailed explanation of what you were doing. You just saved me a bunch of money on the replacement. Thank You :0)

  • @BidCrushr Just glad I could help. =)

  • Thank you...this video help me a lot....

  • @PoderosoGuru You're very welcome!

  • is it possible to take the lcd screen out of an lg dare and put it in a env touch? i broke my env touch screen and i have an lg dare, the screens look similar but i dont want to take everything apart to just find out it doesnt work..

  • @phantompaper Unfortunately no, these screens are not interchangeable. They use a different ribbon cable connector to connect to the main board inside so it would be impossible to use it even if the size of the screen was the same. Sorry. =(

  • thank you soo much!

  • @angienicole093 You're welcome, Angie! =)

  • @XRocka12 Which screws are we talking about?

  • Awesome video. Professional quality. Does anyone recommend a particular supplier? I see lots of eBay vendors around the $36 mark. None of them talk about issues related to the installation (e.g. speaker). One retailer mentioned a difference with the ribbon connector (wide vs. narrow).

  • @smf723 I got mine from a seller named "xcell2009" and he is selling some right now for that price you quoted. The picture that is shown shows two soldering connections so if you by chance get one that doesn't have both connections, you could send it back and get another I would think. I wrote back and told the seller about the situation but told them I wasn't interested in sending it back just to have the phone down that much longer. They thanked me and I'm sure they would have replaced it.

  • @smf723 Thank you for the kind words! Just glad I could help!

  • @smf723 I ended getting mine from zeng-eur on eBay for $26. The seller said it did not have the solder points for the speak but in fact it did but for now I decided not to solder on the older speaker because I don't have the right soldering gun/solder. Again thank you very much for the video. You could easily charge for this because it saves all of us allot of time.

  • Hey what you bought the screen. Did it have to sides. inside part screen and outside part screen. if you know what I mean. thanks. this is helping ALOT!!!!!!! : ) I should be getting mine tomorrow. the screen I hope it's with both sides

  • @TheTekkenTech1 The LCD screen that you buy will be both sides (outside and inside) or it won't be the right one.

  • @locoken Ok thanks Me and my Dad took my env touch apart today. and we followed everthing you said to do. then only thing that I REALLY HATE IS!!!!!!!!!!!! that like you said you can't use the other speaker. cus it's with the other screen that's broken. I kinda hate that. cus it just makes your phone twice is more quite. but thanks this really helped

  • @TheTekkenTech1 You can use the other speaker with the new screen, you just have to solder it to the new one. I couldn't use the other speaker because the replacement screen I got didn't have both soldering connections. This was unfortunate for me but I decided that instead of sending it back and waiting for a new screen to come in and not being able to use the phone for that period of time, I would just forgo the hassle and install the new one and go without the other speaker.

  • @locoken Yea but we payed $35 dollars for the screen. And my dad didn't want to rune the new screen if we solder it. It's ok I guess

  • @TheTekkenTech1 Well, I don't blame him for not wanting to ruin the new screen. Unless you have a low heat solder gun, it can cause damage if you aren't sure how much heat you can/can't put on it. Glad you got your phone back and working! You won't notice the difference after awhile anyway with the other speaker disconnected. Unless of course you used it as a music player, then it might sound a little on the soft side but not that much. Kudos to your Dad for fixing your phone!

  • @locoken Yep! Im soo happy now. I droopped my phone in walmart. And the screen cracked like a slanted kinda way. and I didn't notice tell I got home. then I was really ticked. cus they said that was the last phone they were getting me. but he manage to buy a screen for me. Paid 208 on the phone that had been refixed. which pissed me off. but whatever. I really hate ebay. but that's the one play my dad likes to buy stuff. just not me. the speaker an't that bad.

  • @TheTekkenTech1 Glad your Dad was able to fix it for you! Sucks having to replace the phone for the price they want at the retailer so fixing it is always cheaper. The only thing with fixing it yourself is you void any warranties.

  • @locoken Yea I guess so. Sosmetimes it shuts off. It was like that when I got it. I think it's just LG

  • @locoken The speaker don't bug me to much. if I don't think about it. but I can't let that get to me soo much. I mean I should be happy that I even got my inside screen to work. And I am

  • I can't thank you enough! My repair was a success and not only did I replace my LCD I replaced my digitizer as well, bought the both on eBay. I ran over my phone, fractured my LCD and scratched the digitizer pretty bad. I even soldered my speaker!

  • @IKnowBeans Glad to hear you got your phone back up and running! I'm surprised that it was still usable after running over it. Did you run over it with a bicycle? Regardless, good job on getting it fixed! Feels good to be able to fix things ourselves than have to have someone else fix them, eh?

  • @locoken I ran over it with a Volkswagen Cabrio, TWICE. It fell out of my pocket when I was looking at the fuses under my dash, ran to a meeting (first run) then came home ( second run) and could not find my phone. I called the number and found it under the car. OOPS

  • @IKnowBeans Whoa!!! I'm even more surprised that you were able to still use what was still there! Tough little phone, I guess. Even if the LCD was cracked. I would think the rest of the phone would have been broken as well. Neat story, though!

  • @floggingMcHaggis; I was able to find the replacement screen at local cell phone stores. It sucks though, the second screen that I bought worked for about a week then started flickering and eventually went black. $50 down the drain, now a friend is selling his ENV Touch that is only 6 months old to me for $50 so in the end I will pay $100. Should have just bought a used one from CraigsList or Ebay for the same price but I guess it was worth the shot.

  • Thanks.

  • This is amazing! I went out and bought a new phone before i tried this incase i destroy it even further.

  • Thanks to all who have rated this video! I'm glad to see that it is helping so many people out and I plan to do more videos in the future on other things that can help even more people out. Cheers!

  • hi i didn't get started yet but when i do take the phone apart and get to the speaker do i have to unsolder it? i bought a screen with both connections so i want to use the speaker.

  • @smcder08 Yes, you'll have to take a light solder gun/tool and unsolder the connections and then solder the new one back onto the speaker. You probably can leave the speaker right where it is and not remove it from the frame and just unsolder the connections before removing the screen. Just be very careful not to put the heat to the lcd screen for too long. Heat up the gun before you apply it to the screen and have extra solder standing by should you need it. =)

  • @locoken, yep i was able to find a replacement screen in near perfect condition and an exact match for $25. Put it all together with no ribbon tears and it works perfectly. Thanks again, can't say enough about this video. It's the only one I could find on this phone and it is an example on how to do a "how-to" video on You Tube.

  • @DreisFam You're too kind and I thank you for it. The world needs more people like you. Have a great day, and I'm glad I could help!

  • @DreisFam Where did you find your screen replacement for $25?

  • UGH! I got all the way to the last step to remove the screen and the ribbon tore!!! Oh well, guess I have to replace the speaker as well. Great video though really informative.

  • @DreisFam Argh! I'm sorry to hear that. Did you get a screen with the soldering connections on the right side like I didn't get?

  • Super helpful!

thanks for doing this. I couldn't find any How-to videos before yours. I've not fixed my phone cuz i'm too scared to screw up my phone by trying to be a "pioneer".

  • @fusillieric If you take your time and follow the directions in the video, you shouldn't have any problems. Just take it slow and don't rush things. Pause the video before you do a step I show you in the video and complete that step before moving onto the next step. Maybe watch the video and write down the steps one by one so you can do them in the reverse order when putting it all back together. I know you can do it if you put your mind to it. Just do it! =)

  • @locoken Your right...when using the video I pause and rewind a thousand time before I finish but the final outcome was this crispy screen. I took apart my EnV two times already and I feel like a pro. Much thanks for make this video!

  • @locoken Your right....I had to stop, pause, rewind and thousand times before I got it finish but the final outcome was this crispy nice screen. I just make sure everything is organized while taking it apart so I won't lose anything. Thanks a bunch for the video!!

  • @slipsream47 No Problem! Glad I could help!

  • i am having trouble getting the ribbon to connect back to the screen..the small one

  • @pstoker1 If you are talking about the one that is for the touch screen, try using a small tool like a jewelers screwdriver to gently push it into place and then flip the retaining flap back down onto it. If you don't want to use something made out of metal to push it back in, try using a toothpick or something similar. It also helps to have someone hold the touch screen while you attach the ribbon cable if need be. Hope that helps!

  • Where did you get the blue separator tool from? I've seen a lot of videos where they are being used. I have this phone and I'm thinking about fixing it myself, the outer screen is black and the inner is cracked. This is the best video that I have seen so far, Thanks.

  • @DreisFam Those plastic tools come with some iPhone touch screen replacements but you can also get them for cheap on Amazon.com as a kit. I just did a search and found them for .01 before shipping. Obviously the shipping costs more than the kit, but they are useful.

  • great video.. For such a popular phone, there are not many tuturials on this ? Thank u so much! Very Professional..

  • @Hoad35 Glad you liked the video and that I could help!

  • I just replaced my screen using your instructions, which are absolutely great!!

    Thanks a bunch!

  • @ChiefDevastator You're welcome!

  • I have the same phone and the outside touch screen stopped responding, do you think replacing the touch screen would resolve the issue? It started vibrating on its own for a couple days and then touch screen stopped responding altogether.

    Thanks

  • @drakeup If the touch screen stopped working altogether, it probably is a touch screen problem. But not having the phone in front of me to inspect it, I can't be for certain that this is your only problem. You can buy touch screens off eBay for around $12.00 which is relatively cheap considering a new phone costs much more than that. If it was my phone, I would try replacing the touch screen to see if that took care of the problem as it would be a cheap and easy fix.

  • Works great. A million thanks again.

  • @jeepinbill You're very welcome! Glad I could help!

  • Excellent video! Very professional. Thanks. Gonna get started now.
