  • 12/13/2011 - THIS VIDEO HAS BEEN REDONE! BETTER VIDEO QUALITY, MORE TECHNIQUES, AND VOICE OVER. WITH THE SAME SIMPLICITY AND FLOW! WILL BE UPLOADED 12/14/11

  • IF YOU COME TO THIS VIDEO AND YOU WANT ME TO REDO THIS VIDEO WITH BETTER INSTRUCTION, NO CRAPPY MUSIC, MORE DETAILS, AND BETTER QUALITY, THEN LIKE THIS POST PLEASE...MAKE THIS THE TOP POST. THANK YOU...JASON SCULLY

  • this video is so great ;-;

  • It's been over 5 years...maybe I'll finally redo this video with actual verbal instruction :-)

  • system of a down yeah boi

  • I just started bjj last week and i'm looking forward to using these moves today in training. Thanks.

  • i now that tecnigue

  • it's great teq......

  • omg i love bjj :)

  • man i liked this vidoe alot... do you have another one where theres a little bit of struggle involved ?

  • isnt that serj tankin??

  • click the mute button

  • True love is a beautiful thing.

  • All techniques are what I need to start using more of, I'm youbg in jiu jitsu getting very close to a blue belt and this video may help me officially get it, thank you.

  • PLEASE YOUTUBERS I NEED YOUR HELP HERE !!!! what if when iam putting someone in my closed guard , he goes flat on me ??? iam pretty sure , there must be a very efficient sweep , or attack form that position , but i dont know wich ??? can you tell me ? or maybe guide me to a video ? i encounter very very often this type of reaction comming from begginers ,, so iam pretty sure , it have a great chance of happening on a street figth ...

  • @ezzedine114 You mean stacking your guard? well normally a simple technique would be if you catch them in a armbar then using one hand on the hip (closest where your head is) push and spin (making sure you spin into him and around) you will land into a nice amrbar, there are some quick techniques which require timing such as soon as they about to stack, you catch them in a omoplata, and if you feel like your losing it then putting your hand in their leg closest to you and pulling him over in SC.

  • @B3nBo1194 great explaination !!!! thanks you very much for that effort

  • @ezzedine114 No problem man, I tried explaining it as practically as possible so I hope it helps, if you do wanna ask any more questions please feel free, as I do not mind to help. I hope your training goes well. :)

  • Respond to this video...

We train traditional Jiu Jitsu in Serbia...

    See our videos...

  • high wrap with shun on arm is the pyramid, a gracie technique used by helio.... cool to see

  • This is an awesome vid it helped me alot with guard, and gave me a few idears on how to improve my submission techniques. hope that you release an updated version with some new techniques.

  • I don't have any MMA or BJJ experience but I tried your techniques against my cousin and it works. We both want to train MMA so we just submission wrestle and try to emulate what we see at the events. I mean we're both unexperienced but we or atleast I get the concept of BJJ. Alot of clinching and creating space with your knees and legs.

  • @aloewishus music = system of a down (not annoying, know your facts =D)

  • im gonna fist pop to this shit. Jersey shore baby!!!!!!!

  • lol this music is called soad

  • @jasculs if you see this please reply this video helps me to improve my guard thanks! and I'm pretty weak from guard all i can do is lock the guard and can't go on other steps can you give me some tips? (even tho i won my first official fight today with triangle lol)

  • So if you're on guard position and the opponent is just throwing punches...what should you do? whats the best technique/position/stance to apply?

  • nice to find a vid labeled BJJ that isn't pathetic

  • system of a down is amazing :)

  • I really like the cobra positions. I'm just a white belt so I don't know much but you have really opened my mind with that cobra flower sweep :)

  • Woooooooah, the music is amazing! SOAD is bad ass, but yea, they could have shut it off for the video.

  • Ok used some of your techniques against a guy that out weighed me by 30 lbs and 17 years younger; I'm 37 155 lbs and I completely controled him from gaurd. This is my new training video. Thanks.

  • Great video I like the transitions

  • poor guy lol

  • @FootballCrazy408 what wud u expect from a bjj video you moron? shittest troll iv seen on yt so far

  • im gonna start BJJ soon, any advice, im pretty small, so like what kind of techiniques would be good gor me?

  • @megacarl87 everyone. jiu jitsu is used to defeat larger opponents.

  • @megacarl87 advise: get flexible legs & hips.Try to get to be able to put your feet behind your head. I'm only 130 lbs. and having a 'rubber guard' keeps me alive long with big guys (if they're not a purple belt). From guard, break down posture and get your knees up high. Don't give away your base, as many small people will. AND FINALLY, GET BIGGER!! resistance training is the way to go, but don't be lazy about stretching.

  • Great stuff, thanks! Tried it out as soon as I saw the first few positions, they work great to transition with.

  • Have you ever considered editing new commentary with cleaner music over this stuff?

  • Jasculs! I can't believe I just found this video again. I remember watching this video several years back a few weeks before my first jiu jitsu competition ever. I used your techniques and helped my teammates learn it as well with great success! My friend Jason used the Arm Wrap Shin in Elbow system (probably what we worked the most) to win a medal with a Triangle. I remember looking for this video a while back but couldn't find it. Instantly favorited and thumbs up! BAD ASS! THANKS AGAIN!

  • @TheDrooch Thanks bro...man I never thought this video would be so popular when I first put it up...haha I was a blue belt then and now I'm a black belt. I'm glad it has help you and a lot of other people. If I ever get enough time I'll definitely update this video and add some commentary along with much better editing. I just happened to teach some of this stuff in my class tonight.

  • @jasculs

You should totally update this video, its honestly one of the best BJJ videos on youtube. I can't count the amount of times I've watched it. It has helped a beginner like me out a ton. The armwrap/headcontrol is great

  • good vid!

  • do you still like the cobra position? I can see getting this with a failed take the back attempt from guard

  • @jungerman Definitely do and you are right...it is pretty good to get off of the situation you mentioned.

  • @jasculs cool

  • How can someone say the music sucks! SOAD is the greatest band of all time

  • one more BJJ video and i can get my BJJ black belt. lol

  • OMG this is exactly what i was looking for, so thankful. Great video, so clear and not too fast! This owns other tutorial or demonstration videos. Seriously, you guys are legit and have nice technique. I learned alot!

  • Sick!

  • Great Video! Great Music!

  • I tought him everything he knows...he owes me his life....idk why he put that music!...

  • This video has potential... Too bad you can't hear a word he's saying, the text is virtually unreadable and the music is coming in through the camera microphone.

Then again, it does say Jersey Shore in the title

  • If ur not wearing a GI, its just....

errr no gi ju jitsu, not submission wrestling, which is something entirely different, dumbass :P

  • Good Shit man.

  • The background music is kinda disruptive.

  • no bullshit wtf

  • Really cool techniques. Thank you for posting.

  • System Of A Down FTW.

  • he takes alot of steps for his triangle, mine is just a swift movement and boom its there, but i have long legs so that might help

  • retarded people if ur not using a kimono is not jiujitsu, its called submission

  • A kimono?? Lol. Was somebody rolling with a Geisha?? It's called a Gi, bud. Hahahaha.

  • Kimono means robe

  • ur an idiot

  • part of jujutsu is submission and it's called a gi

  • ummm....who cares? if you are attacking joints and strangling people using techniques, ima call it JUIJITSU. Just no gi. calm down crazy.

  • I train with professor Travis Tooke in Houston, TX...i'm trying to develop a good guard game, i really like some of these...thanks bro

  • Comment removed

  • ur gay for thinking that retard

  • take it wasy.. it was a joke

  • Why has the other guy no shirt? XDDDDDD

  • phsyco groupie cocaine crazy - system of a down

  • wath is name is the single ???? plis

  • como se llama la cancion

  • That cobra sweep is nasty

  • wow dude! kick ass techniques!

  • Thank you everyone for all of the comments and ratings....I recorded this video over 3 years ago and never expected it to help so many people. Since then I have recorded more videos and created a very successful grappling site.

I've also improved the video quality and production of my videos a biit.

Thanks again and I hope to be able to help more people in the future.

  • i just wish for some of the moves you did not cut out the inbetween process.

  • learn some basic video production techniques...drop your music into the timeline in your editing program instead of recording it on location. it sounds crappy and also your audience can't hear what you are saying to them. also find a cameraman who can at least hand hold the cam because a steady tripod gives you a static shot and simply put is boring. the angle of ur tripod is crooked. u should wear a shirt. and use white for you text. otherwise im sure you can kick my ass in jiu jitsu

  • exactly.

  • rofl they have s.o.a.d in the background

  • SOAD is SICK.

  • im all up for ju jistu and shit, but i am not, doing that, i think ill stick with karate tae kwon do and thai boxing

  • Just be careful if you do a fight, Tae Kwan Do doesn't do much, and if your opponent grabs you and puts you on your back, you might want to just tap before you get hurt

  • there is no tapping in the street.

rule 1 of streetfighting, always use a weapon,

do not be a wolf be a lion, do not attack, women, children, the elderly or animals.

  • slick

  • Music= System of a Down-Psycho

  • Well, the victim can still hit you with his head..

  • Thanks for uploading the video. In Robert Drysdale Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy, I am also getting bjj training under Robert Drysdale, 6 time world BJJ Champion, 2007 ADCC absolute champion, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt. He is a very nice guy and the school is full of talented people. Visit his official website, RobertDrysdale[.]Net to watch Bjj videos and to learn bjj techniques.

  • Hello, thanks for taking the time to check the video out and posting and I appreciate your opinion. Your are right Braulio Estima is awesome. While the video here may not be the cleanest technical wise fortunately it has seemed to help hundreds of people and got some pretty good rating.

I recorded this video 4 years ago when I was a blue belt (brown belt now) and I never thought it would get the recognition it does. It is a means to give ideas and broaden the imagination.

  • Back when I recorded this I used to use everything that is in this video and I still use many of the guard positions such as the underhook clamp and overhooks, along with the shin-in position. I've used many in competition.

I am definitely NOT Braulio and he is world class. I've been fortunate to place in the BJJ Worlds as a brown but and hope to continue with my training as I really love this stuff.

I hope to continue to give information that people find useful. Great training to you

  • That was a very polite answer, i'm impressed

  • hey i want to learn how to fight any advice onto what vids i could learn from?

  • Great Video!! Great thanks a lot!!!

  • simple classic guard dynamics .. a whole new can of worms if you let yourself learn rubber guard and related moves/techniques . much harder to defend aginst too.

  • I see people debating if BJJ is pratical in fight and the answer is YES/NO. It depends upon what type of fight it is if it's some backyard brawl then yes, but if it's a street fight that has to deal with weapons being invloved then no. BJJ or any grampling art isn't pratical in a street fight that deals with weapons, because the second you try to take someone down you give the other guy a chance of stabbing you to death. This is were Krav Mega comes in handy to defend such attacks.

  • It is knowing just the basics has saved my ass twice on the street.

  • This Video is Amazing.

    Very Instructive

    Very Well executed

    It lets see the "FLOW"

    Thank You,

    Ric

  • wow

  • Really like the video. A little hard to follow along cause of the music. But nonetheless, thanks for offering us newbies a way to educate ourselves.

  • wow, I love this video u guys have put on... please put some more on like being inside sombodys guard... so far im now doing great putting somebody in my guard. i have even taped a purple belt just recently! Thanks again... your both great teachers.

  • Hey ccs1702, dude I can't believe you actually took the time to post that worthless comp of words on this video. Is there some kind of grammer vids on Youtube that you would be better served watching? What a GEEK . Props on the video.

  • whats the song?

  • good vid. I just started yesterday. Im loving it!!!!! Your vid going to good source for me!!!! Thanks

  • Great stuff man, 5 stars.

  • Really nice vid. I have to try some of these in training, and I somehow always finish in guard so...thanks :)

  • Great video these techniques will come in handy.

    Keep up the good work.

  • so your good in english, then prove me rong, lol, bjj fighter can kick ,strike, eye gouge you in a street, but they use a technique, in more humane way,

  • widowlicker,i heard that helio gracie killed a wrestler with a takedown or throw they fought in a tennis court and there are no rules, gracie fought in a street, pressure point, one punch kill,is not true,i think youre never been in streetfight, wake up

  • First off , check your English because it sucks! Since your a Martial art expert, you are invited to my dojo to Try and kick my ass!

Your just another looser who runs his mouth!

Helio Gracie is dead! Finally something good for Martial Arts community.

  • Check YOUR English. You spelled "loser" wrong and "you're" wrong, twice. "Try and kick..." should be "try to kick..." You also forgot the article before "Martial Arts community".

  • by running your mouth the way you are, you obviously have no concept of the foundation and core principles of martial arts.

  • As some who is currently training in jiu-jitsu, this video is extremely helpful - take notes.

  • part 2 plssssss

  • no other arts opened our eyes than bjj,if its wasnt of ufc we are still ignorant even we see it happend in streetfights, accept it karate does not work,i have been in streetfght and we ended on the ground, and i see both karate fight in ufc,and it's look like streetfght i dont see their karate ways

  • The UFC has rules , real life does not!

I could Knock you out before you could take me down ! So prove me rong, and come to my Dojo .

  • Do some homework. The Gracies were doing Vale tudo back in the 40's/50's on up before Americans even knew what no rules fighting was. They didnt have weight classes either. And yes your argument of I can knock you out before you take me down has been proven false many times. Did you watch Shamrock vs Royce?? Even he couldnt stop the take down and he knew take down defenses.

BJJ is not the end all Martial arts but it certainly should be suplimented into any other art. Atleast the basics

  • I will say it again , the UFC has rules! The UFC can't use Pressure points, The UFC does not allow strikes to the neck and so on!

Come to my Dojo and prove me rong!

  • You are right the current UFC does have rules. But Gracie Jiu Jitsu is older than the UFC and was developed through no rules fighting. They teach kidney kicks, eye slaps and some other techniques that are not allowed in todays UFCish events.

There is Sport Gracie Jiu Jitsu (which is what you see in UFC and local tournaments) and then there is Self Defense Gracie Jiu Jitsu which is vastly different. For instance how you hold guard in self defense is different than sport Jiu Jitsu.

  • Totally..

  • Dude i don't go to gay bars...

  • dude somebody who trains bjj even sport bjj could at least handle himself when some dude messes with him alot of bjj is improving your position and keeping a good position rather than pulling off some fancy move

  • Bjj is only ment for the ring, not for real life.

I study some Bjj along with many other styles. If my fight goe's to the ground,I probably did something rong.

If you study Kuysho jistsu, tuite jitsu, or Kali , you would be a well rounded fighter.

These Martial Arts have fast, effective techniques that actually work.

  • i dunno im not going to get involved in the debate because iv never actually used bjj in a fight. but you dont beleive that a half decent jj guy could at least survive a situation against some random dude?

  • He could probably survive a couple fights!

  • lol..watch some videos with rorion and royce gracie beating subbing other martial arts time and time again.. whoop whoop

  • Bjj has its place in the martial arts world, but there is a counter to a counter to a counter!

I started studying Bjj a few months ago, and I like it. But Bjj would be my last resort if was in real life situatoion.

Its a really good work out. Really good.

  • Easy counter to BJJ good stand up and sprawl and brawl but any fighter should at least know the basics of BJJ.

  • Brazilian Jujitsui? Its really called Juijitsue! You know, from Japan!!

  • here comes the know-it-all and I believe they spell it jujutsu but I could be wrong. Japanese JJ isn't as affective on the ground as the form of Judo (not Japanese JJ that was modified by the late great Helio Gracie in Brazil.

  • Have you ever heard of "pressure" points?? Because pressure points work standing up or on the ground? And Helio Gracie learned the watered down version of Jujitsui not real affective Art! Look up Kyusho Jitsui and Ryuku Kempo! Every modified style of Martial Arts has come from traditional Martial Arts!! All you experts seem to forget that!!

  • Pressure points? Are people still talking about that? Listen man, this isn't soem movie, this isn't Xena warrio princess. If you really think helio's JJ is watered down talk to the slew of men Royce Gracie DESTROYED in 4 years of the UFC including Japanese JJ champions. Give me a break, enter the world of reality. An MMA fighter is lost in the ring today WITHOUT BJJ. It is essential, NO ONE does Japanese JJ for MMA!

  • Bjj is ok for U.F.C but not for real life! Do you know who Lyoto Machida is?? He is an undefeated U.F.C. fighter that has a 4th degree Black belt in Shotokon Karate!!!

    UNDEFEATED!! ha ha ha

  • Hey, fool, here's a little tid bit, Machida is Brazilian and has been doing BJJ since he was 15 HAHAHAHAHA! Moron! Chuck Liddel is also a karate black belt, but the style he uses in the ring is Muay Thai and last I checked he was a BJJ brown belt, perhaps hire now, GSP also a karate black belt, but what he uses in the ring is Muay thai (he has a muay thai trainer NOT a karate trainer) and he too has a brown belt in BJJ.

  • he also is a brown belt or blackbelt in bjj. dumb ass!! look how he beat sukajo (sp?), with a submission.

  • Thanks ass hat!! Of course he is good at Bjj!

Bjj is not the end all Martial Art! I study it at my school, but its not the focal point of my Martial art study!!!

Why would you go to the ground when you can Knock some one out, when standing up???? O wait , that wouldn't look cool for TV!!

  • most fights end up on the ground, thats why. BJJ is better than any other martial art. by far.

  • muay thai and BJJ FTW

  • I don't think its fair to call a closed gaurd close to the hips "lazy". that kind of gaurd can actaully be really good if done at the proper time. it keeps range, and can control distance with a really aggresive person.

  • lazy guard is hella bad. theyr up ur down. they just swing at you. closed guard high keeps them low allowing u to do more

  • Whats the song?

Sounds like System Of A Down but whats the title.

  • cocain and ariels how ever spelled

  • the should put big letters at da end of dis video dat say "NO HOMO" lol but real tlk dat shit wrks good....nd wimpie012: idk mybe dat is bas rutten

  • is wht i have learned but overall great video!

  • With these grips you would not want to sit there the whole fight or for an extended period of time. If you do grip him up like that and just press him into your chest you will unable to scoot your hips and it will make more difficult to move around but on a positive note these grips allow to move into a armlock submission or any other submission. I personally use more of a open type close guard where you are not gripping the guy to keep him there. Im no expert on this but wht i said above wht

  • bas rutten?

  • i suck with guards people always pass it in like 5 seconds

  • great video, thanks!

  • This is very useful, thanks for posting this.

  • 2:30 to 2:36 is sweet!!! gotta try that

  • who is this guy???? that is very similar to the pyramid... well the triangles int eh beginging

  • Thanks for posting this!!!

  • esta chido wey el video, me gusta mucho este deporte arriba chamacua

  • stayhidden "Knife defense is fairly easy"...you're kidding right? I agree with EpicurusThirteen. Defending against a knife is damn near impossible. Get a black marker and a white t-shirt and find out after a couple of tries how many times you get slashed in very serious places. If someone pulls a knife you get the hell out of there. And if they are inexperienced with a knife you're in even worse trouble, because that strike isn't going to come in a direction you expect.

  • 10th planet all day!!!!!!!! Learn it

  • I dont do martial arts myself, but my friend does jiujitsu and he seems to think its easy to defend againts a knife?

  • very easy... a knife is a horrible weapon choice in my honest opinion.

  • well, my friend has been known to talk shit from time to time:) I mean he's no Chuck Norris and im willing to bet he's not as good as Steven Segal, who is the best in the world, after that black guy aka "Black Belt Jones" from enter the dragon:)

  • all arts are good ninjitsu is pretty sweet, and i agree with blowinsmoke if a person wants to bring a weapon... bring something better than a knife. and ppl who brings knife are too much of a pussy to fight like a man.

  • hahaha,I agree brother.

  • Ninjutsu is not sweet if your goal is to win fights. I also don't understand why you're criticizing knives while advocating the use of weapons. What would you suggest instead?

  • It is incredibly difficult to defend against a knife. When fighting in close quarters against almost any weapon, the knife is a top choice.

If your friend is so sure, grab a plastic knife and come at him any way you think will work (better yet, watch some basic knife attacks and try those) and tell me how he does.

  • I agree with U. They say nosense. I bet that with that plastic knife they would be hitted so many times.

  • I'm hopping in the middle of this discussion ...Bas Rutten made a very good point once. He said that most knife disarms involving an attacker closing the distance are silly -- a well place lead thrust kick is all that's really needed. Obviously you have to follow it up, but at the very least you can turn and run.

  • yes.. but miss with the kick and the knife guy will close the gap.. best off going for your second idea -> RUN!!! :)

  • well it really depends on how the attacker is coming at you with the knife, i find stab/thrusts are quite easy to defend against, its the slashes that get you.

  • Knife defense is fairly easy IMO (although it can always go horribly wrong) assuming your opponent hasn't closed the distance yet.

Grappling with a knife-wielding opponent is one of the last things i'd want to do. I'd rather grapple with someone holding a gun.

The basic equation goes like this:

Knives are dangerous in a clinch, and guns are dangerous when you can't reach them with your hands.

Obviously though, a properly trained knife fighter is always going to be a problem.

  • Great vid. But there were a lot of setups from the cobra...and I don't think you see can get cobras when you have non-novice grapplers. Am I wrong? I would love to see a more detailed video on how you properly position your hips and angles for the triangles.

  • Man, I am 9 lessons in after years of boxing, and this will really help me. Thanks much.

  • damn that music is wway too loud.

  • disarms are tricky dangerous and never 100% chances are you'll get cut

  • Might be the best BJJ youtube video. Thanks for posting

  • all respect to BJJ but i prefer aikido

  • Aikido's beautiful to watch, and has many similar principles; do a search for Roy Dean, he's a BJJ master, and also a dedicated Aikido practicioner. I'm a BJJ'er, and I sincerely invite you to try out our art, you're really going to like it.

  • I have a cousin who's a black belt in aikido. The style is worthless in real life.

  • try kendo

  • Actually did do kendo and fencing when I was in high school for a few months I did kendo at my TKD school where I started in martial arts. I actually found that using some of the distance control and lunges adapted to mma is pretty effective. I'm a striker and only have a blue belt in BJJ and little wrestling experience so distance control and sprawling and other takedown d is my game and it's got me kickin ass in the amatuers once I get some real speed in my hands i"ll be real hard to beat.

  • Awesome
