this segment was actually meant for the unreleased third latin american disney film to follow after "saludos amigos"and "the three caballeros", called "cuban carnival". the film had about 10 segments, including a sequel to the gauchito and burrito called 'the laughing gauchito'. the 'samba' segment was the only one released.
I wish there was a channel that would play all the old Disney cartoons, shorts and everything all the good stuff, I would watch it all day long and it would never get old :)
I always thought that was Carman Miranda on the organ, she was a big time samba artist after all and dressed kind of like that. Still I always liked the fast druming and quick portuguise speaking in samba music. This is a bit of a far cry from the stuff that is faster at carnaval with the nude girls that lead the parades, they have painted on bikinis that is.
Rarely we, Brazilians, do enjoy this idea of belonging to Latinoamerica. It is a pity to observe the fact that these were times of dictatorship and the rule of CIA. Still, we like to be part of the familia!!!
This has always been a favorite of mine. It was done way before there was such a thing as computer animation! I especially love how the Hammond organ explodes and then comes back together as a cartoon. And ES was HOT as always. I only wish that I had been able to meet her - it almost happened once while I was visiting a mutual friend in Palm Beach many years back!
Wow! Disney had some good shows back in the day. Better than the mindless drivel we get now :( Love this! It's strangely psychedelic. Pretty bold for the late 40's :D
I wish i was that talented and could play the organ like that. The harmonies by the dinning sisters are really cool. But no matter how many times i listen to this song i can't learn the words.
hey, how you guys call the Green Parrot in English? In Portuguese we call Ze Carioca , Caricoca is a name given to a person who was born on Rio. Ze is well his name but can be trasnalate as Joe
I've had vague memories of this cartoon ever since I saw it when I was really little, and never knew what it was. I saw a picture of the Parrot somewhere and looked him up on wikipedia, used youtube to check out all the films he'd been in until I found this. Bingo! Another childhood memory sourced =D
Now check my 'story'.. I was watching the Simpsons and the day's episode was a spoof on Johnny Appleseed.. And then I wondered..."Johnny Appleseed, Johnny Appleseed..that's reminds me of something.." So internet we go.. From Appleseed to Melody Time to this great..well..sketch it was a short way.. ahah
im glad u put this up not alot of people remember panchito donald and hose even tho panchito isnt in this one but still i loved these guys growing up!

Who was that narrating at the beginning there? Sounded a little like Bing Crosby, but I doubt it.

Zé Carioca

It's more commonly seen as Jose Carioca or Joe Carioca in English speaking countries.
ChaoticMasquerade 2 years ago
We Brazilians call him Ze Carioca. Ze is to Jose, what Joe is to Joseph. He's an icon in Brazil.

Now what does that Woody Woodpecker guy have against the piano woman?? I can only immagine how much this pisses off the feminists and such.
PunkyBear36 3 years ago
The Aracuan has nothing against the woman. He's just playing jokes. That's its nature ^^
