You are supposed to play the first Shadow Hearts, let Alice die, play the second Shadow Hearts, and then play the first again, but this time, save Alice. That is how the story goes.

I think the I.D thing is true and ,that karin lossed her memories when she woke up in the past ... or maybe she still had her memories which means yuri's not russian and that's why he couldn't pronouns the russian letters ....wait either way he's not russian .I really think she lossed her memories . but were did she get the photo?

I think that's a simple loophole to overlook. My guess is that Karin probably lied about her heritage upon meeting Yuri's father. "My name is...Anne. I'm from Petrograd in Russia. I don't know how I got here". There's a part in the game where Yuri failed to correctly pronounce any Russian letters correctly whatsoever, and Anastasia had to correct him. I think this may have been a hint from the game developers that Yuri is not Russian. She probably lied to keep the flow of events needed true.

@JayViewer Actually, Karin propably had her fake Russian ID with her. Anastasia gives her a fake ID at one point, and Karin says "Anne?" to which Yuri replies "Anne was my mom's name." Anastasia said something about it being easier for them to travel if they hid the fact that Karin was German. So she had a Russian ID with the fake name 'Anne'.

hmm there are a few problems with the thought that Karin is Yuri's mother, for the fact that in "Shadow hearts I" it states that Anne was Russian but in "Shadow hearts II" it clearly states that Karin is German... not to sure bout the whole making ends meet idea but hayy maybe karin was a russian decendant on her farthers side????

it actually makes sense if Karin is Yuri's mother besides looking at the ending of SH II . In this picture you can look into Karin's eyes and see she's more motherly. I'm more a fan of Alice than Karin because Alice is more pure hearted and she kicks ass with a book! >:D

Alice and Karin don't seem very alike to me. Karin is actually Yuri's mother; when she appeared in Japan at the end, her memory was sketchy, so it would seem that she remembered just the "in" part of her name, or "en," depending on who you are, so calling herself "Anne," would make sense. Why marry Yuri's father? He was probably a lot like Yuri.

well you are right, but you know what Karen's "destiny" is, so it would be kinda weird/disturbing if she possessed a part of the soul of Yuri's girfriend. Then again, with Japanese games, everything is possible ;-)
