  • Can't actually hear any of the talent, just WHOOOOOO IM SO DRUNK LET ME SCREAM AND WHOOOOOO WHILE PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO LISTEN WHOOOOOO!

  • Lol I've literally sang every one of these songs before.

  • Would be nice if we could hear them sing, instead of a constant cackle.

  • @Thumpalina100 Nobody's forcing you to watch it. Go take your negative opinions somewhere they'll be appreciated.

  • i'm all for comments but seriously? swearing?

  • So freaking amazing!

  • This is BEAST!!!! =D

  • Brilliant!!!

  • This group come from BYU and they don't appreciate people swearing in comments related their videos. I'm just saying. Plus, they are even better in person rather than on some person's camera or camcorder! Didn't you people ever watch Bambi? If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.

  • the audience is sooo annoying

  • Ya think it's easy to sing so consistently off-key? This kind of parody is an art form if done right, and they've pulled it off like true pros. Bravo performance!

  • @awabob yeah, when you know a song in the major scale and then transpose it to a minor scale progression, it messes with your head a bit. lol. But they did amazing and actually made it sound cool.

  • <3 Bass

  • Intentionally or otherwise bad intonation doesn't make it funny. Actually I think it is counter intuitive. Having flawless tuning while letting the arrangement in minor tonalities would have made it even better. Oh well, good taste is a subjective thing.

  • @praestant8

In case you didn't notice... this... is... a... JOKE!

I'm sorry that your sense of humor (or lack thereof) gets in the way of your "subjective good taste." Just check out some of their other stuff, and hopefully your "good taste" will not cloud your vision and allow you to see that they have the talent to pull stuff like this off.

  • @514oeht I'm very aware of what VP's abilities are, or at least used to be in 2005. I have the CD, even though there is a lot of studio processing in it. You don't need to be patronizing because I get what the joke is supposed to be. I have enough degrees in music and vocal experience to know they could have done a lot better and would have thusly increased the comedic value of the act.

  • @praestant8 SOMEONE'S PREEEEETENTIOUS!

  • @pussywillows2284 Pretentious? Do you even know what the word means? I didn't bust my ass through music school in one of the best collegiate choral departments on the West Coast to be convinced by inexperienced and uneducated kids that this is a good or musical performance. The ensemble I work with who has recorded for a Hollywood composer could mop the floor here. I think the only pretentiousness here is on your part.

  • @praestant8 clearly you dont know the definition. by calling you out i was merely letting you know NO ONE CARES... it's the internet.. you could be a 12 year old pre-pubescent kid... it's music. some people will like it and some wont... so just chill out. while you're doing that, im going to practice some prokofiev symphonia concertante. because as it happens, i'm studying cello...

  • @pussywillows2284 You haven't called anything out other then demonstrating your own lunacy. Do I care if you don't care, HELL NO. It's my right and privilege to comment on videos. That's the point of this place. You go practice your Prokofiev and let us know when you win a competition. Perhaps then someone will take you seriously. Run along now...

  • @praestant8 opinions are like buttholes. everyone has one, and nobody really cares about anyones elses. so chill man

  • @cougarkid16 So if you don't care why are you bothering to comment on something from 3 months ago? Don't you have better things to do like fill out college applications?

  • That bass is awesome.

  • The lion must be dead.

the night must have been stormy

The longest time must have been too long (yep)

The night must have been too still

    Too much Ice cream?

    Too much leaning

The lollypop must have been bitter

The girl never been kissed (and probably never will be kissed)

    Just say goodbye

  • @tsofan2000 That was the point. :P It was supposed to be exaggerating the overdone 'covers' made of classic and well-known songs. Some great things shouldn't be messed with, and that's what they were trying to say here. :P

  • grrrr to the screaming girl in the audience

  • Damn, the laughing is extremely annoying.

  • @kreternal What do you expect? It's a live performance that was really funny.

  • Unprofessional college kids shut up with your laughs

  • @KnottPatriot it was at a performance, not a concert. They are aloud to.

  • @xlmeay *allowed

  • @xlmeay So what exactly is the difference between a "performance" and a "concert"? They are the SAME thing. As soon as you start to "perform" for an audience, you are "in concert".

  • @Qwinkly3 You are equivicating two different meanings of what a concert is, and as such is fallacious.

Vocal point, if you knew anything about them, is a performance group. The intend for the audience to get rowdy. They intend for there to be audience participation. They even bring audience members to join them on stage from time to time.

Vocal Point is not an arts concert, in which you are supposed to behave. They are a performance group, as many collegiate acapella groups are.

  • @xlmeay First, if you're trying to sway me with multisyllabic words, please spell them correctly. Then move along to rules of grammar, such as the inclusion of a subject in your attempt at a compound sentence. But really, read my first comment again. At no time did I say anything about the behavior of the audience at all! I know full well what type of group this is, as I am a degreed professional musician, both in voice & clarinet. I have also designed comedic stage shows for jugglers.

  • @xlmeay BTW, I don't believe “equivicating” (sic) was even the correct word choice at all, even if you could spell it correctly. To equivocate means “to use ambiguous or unclear expressions, usually to avoid commitment or in order to mislead; prevaricate or hedge”. (Dictionary dot com) I believe the word you were striving for was “equating”. But again, you have read SO much more into my comment than there was there. I was merely stated that a performance is a concert.

  • I love it!

  • Ok, this had to have been difficult to arrange and keep in minor tune. I gotta give props to these guys. I've never had a chance to see them live (despite living in Pleasant Grove), but this just sounds hilarious. What a fantastic concept. Thanks for posting this.

  • GENIOUS!!! I actually like Stand by Me better in minor... haha

  • love this. creative! i love the "kiss the girl" in minor! great :) and classic ending!

  • I love this. And its super true. Many a cappella songs are over done and its so great that they can have fun with it and make fun of this, still sounding good. They are the most talented group I've seen perform.

  • they should try a lower note

  • I love the arrangement, but it takes real vocal and musical talent to sing consistently bad. The fact is, they sound really good but they are doing it all on purpose to make fun of a cappella music.

I think it needs to be written a few more times with new medleys, cuz let's face it, a cappella music is great, but there are still a ton of songs that are overdone.

  • Awesome, but I don't think Lean on me sounds good in a minor key.

  • Her over obnoxious laugh makes me want to punch infants.

But when I could actually hear them, they were absolutely amazing. As usual.[:

  • Wow, to say that was a creative arrangement would be an understatement. My only complaint about it would be that there were 2 huge omissions from the medley. Two of THE MOST overdone a cappella songs, Africa, and And So It Goes. Aside from that, one of the most creative arrangements I've ever heard, and really funny as well.

  • nice nice - yeah, i believe I have sung 95% of those songs - haha - I think since they're easy, catchy, people love it- its gonna be sung for years to come! =) and yes, i have to agree, the laughing gets pretty annoying

  • someone is a genius. this arrangement rocks! seriously lining up the seemingly erroneous solos over tritones and half diminished chords.... brilliant.

  • omg... amazing... but the laughing is soooo obnoxious...

  • Very funny (and difficult to do)!

    They´re AMAZING!

  • omg.... the switch to minor key is kinda freaky @_@

  • Totally agree!

  • Holy freaking cow! "I am agog, I am aghast . . ." I am AMUSED!!!! Well done, BYU boys!

  • This is absolutely FANTASTIC and that BASS is AMAZING!!!!!

  • and a n awesome tag. nice. honestly impressed.

  • I'm amazed at the talent level of these gentlemen... They were in Nauvoo a while back... I would've loved to have gone to the show, but I'm not Mormon and not allowed in the Temple. I've seen the Temple, however, and it's gorgeous.

  • The performance wouldn't have been in the temple...

  • ok, this is really funny haha

  • Yeah.

The first song is in the Dorian mode.

The rest are in Ionian, Aeolian modes, and in major and minor keys.

  • theyre not out of tune, just changing from a major to a minor key.

  • THIS IS GREAT! really overdone accapella. you are so right. I love the purposful minor tunes! =]

  • Singing in tune is actually far easier than intentionally singing out of tune without sounding like some American Idol reject. That they can do also do it in harmony with each other takes real talent.

  • It is obvious they are doing this on purpose!! hello overdone acapella songs with a twist, almost all the songs are done changing the mayor tones for the minor ones, that is way hard to sing, when u are used to hear/sing them in mayor tones. I think they are way awesome! I more than just enjoy them, I think they're the best acapella group ever ;) Your #1 fan in Puerto Rico

    Att. Patricia Berríos

  • While they occasionally do slip out of tune, I think what you're hearing is the intentional shifting between major and minor tonalities in the arrangement. Awesome.

  • I've been in various choirs for about 9+ years, and played piano professionally for 12. Having done that, I've can recognize pitch *somewhat.*

If they AREN'T out of tune, they chose reeeeeeeeally bad keys for a few of the songs. It's most noticeable during "for the longest time."

And, again, I still enjoyed it. I'm just giving a bit of critique.

  • Wow, defensive much?

  • I really wasn't annoyed when I wrote that (one doesn't get inflections with type). Sorry 'bout that.

Everyone is defensive a bit, I guess, but I just think someone can disagree without being wrong, and I was trying to express that... but apparently failing.

    Drat.

  • They might have been out of tune on purpose BECAUSE the songs are over done. it might have just a stylistic thing to just make fun of all of the songs that they sang. but i completely agree with you and am kinda of disappointted in the people who are giving you crap for speaking your mind. i think, it's your opinion and you should be able to say it outloud. or type it... or something

  • If you have the credentials stated, then you of all people should recognize that they are not out of tune, but rather singing each song in a minor key. The reason "for the longest time" sounds odd is because you are expecting the lovely major key sound of billy joel's recording. You should have recognized the dorian mode of "in the jungle" and realized it was on purpose. If you can't hear these things, I call BS on your credentials. Check out their other stuff, they don't EVER sing out of tune.

  • I agree that singing in minor was their intent. I do not agree, however that they were completely successful for the duration of this eight minute video.

But hey--no worries. Everyone messes up a bit, and they still did a pretty good job with a funny arrangement.

    No haters.

  • Apparently there has been some sort of misunderstanding. I love Vocal Point quite a lot, and I understand that they're amazing.

I'm only saying that in the VIDEO they sound out of tune, whereas at the actual CONCERT, they probably weren't. I've recorded them myself, and I know that the video isn't an exact representation.

But 'cmon, guys! Let me give a little criticism without being thumbed down! People are still entitled to their opinions, and I was very polite about the whole thing.

    Sheesh.

  • They are not out of tune. All the songs have been arranged in Minor chords. read the description.....

  • You guys are all crazy... how did you not notice it in the beginning??? They are certainly not out of tune. They are wonderfully in tune. They are instead singing all the songs in a minor key instead of in their intended major keys basically to make fun of it. it's amazing! shows great great talent.

  • Clever and awesome!

  • Amazing . . . and ouch, so true! My college acappella group did all but two of these songs!

  • The ending part is sooo true...you see these damn endings soooo many times...ADD a hook! pfft.

  • thank you! I had a great laugh :)

  • o yes!
