Donnie is usually on point when it comes to a fight scene. I don't remember the first movie of his I saw it was a long time ago, but I love to see him really throw down man.
Every time I see a good martial arts movie it reminds me of what these action movies today are missing. It's almost like they don't make'em anymore or something.
@crystalis0324 He's a good fighter, just like Jet Li. He's multiple wu she champion. Unlike Jet li, however, he doesn't sport a protogonist look, that's why he's so often relegated to supporting role as it's easy to use special effects to make you look like a champ, but it'd be really difficult if not impossible if you don't look like what mainstream audiences expect from a protagonist, physical appearance wise.
@eatfastnoodle Hm...maybe it's because of the movies he's been in that he's so typecasted? Because I've been watching him in wuxia dramas for over a decade, and he's always been the sunny dispositioned, go-luck-happy good guy ^^: He's played every role Jet Li's ever played. It was actually weird for me that he kept being the antagonist in movies lol
For some reason that Wu Jing is my personal favorite actor since he does have alot in common with Jet Li, since both of them sometimes play the villains and sometimes they play as the hero which is quite interesting, because not all martial arts actors do play the same roles over and over. steven seagal however always the hero and never the villain, except for machete since that was the only film he was ever a villain.
@DeStryke51 He doesn't talk a lot in some movie because like Jet Li, Jing is a Mainlander (Mainland Chinese) and speaking Cantonese is a little different than Mandarin. During his old movies, his voice is dubbed. Now, Jing can able to speak Cantonese enough to get around.
After watching this film I can't watch hollywood actions without cringing at the lack of skill. Screw montage filming and slow motion, this is the real shit.
awesome this is the best, most intense baton and knife fight u'll ever see, wish thr is a behind the scenes for this scene i rly wanna see how they make.. haha donnie yen rocks i like the way he pose at 2:01
@Princ3Jojo while not technically behind the scenes there is a interview with him about his stunt choreography where he talks abt this scene extensively. its here on utube somewhere.
@Princ3Jojo In HK film like this one, they try to everything in one take with a lot of cameras in different angle because to save time. If they screw up the pattern they either have to start the entire scene or edit it.
@brotato2 i just find it funny someone's concerned enough about the skill a weapon takes that they wish guns never existed but don't mind "skillful" weapons existing
@iamsoawesome1234 What's wrong with being on wu jing's side! he's a talented martial artist and a great action actor. Plus, a good fight needs a good villain!
wow i think u might have taken it a different way.YES wu jing is awesome!!HE'S THE BEST BAD GUYS I'VE EVER SEEN!!! all i meant by that was those people are mad he died in the end
@DooKNo1 In Fearless, the scene before the final fight scenes was the one that really jumped out in my mind. If that scene was shot with live sound, then why did Jet Li's dialogue not match his mouth movement? Same thing with SPL. Sure, the actors did the dialogues themselves, but they recorded them in the studio after the scenes were actually filmed.
@DooKNo1 The Cantonese dialogues were also dubbed. Sometimes you can hardly tell it's dubbed. (The actor who played Ip Man's friend was particularly good) Other times it's really obvious.
@DooKNo1 Also, the soundtrack in this particular scene sounds pretty much like something from the movies I used to watch when I was a kid. The instrumentation and effects are still very similar. For example, I'm pretty sure I've heard the organ-like sound at 1:30 countless times in various Hong Kong movies, and it just sounds cheesy to me, like 80's synth or something.
@DooKNo1 I watched some of this movie, the dialogues were dubbed. I watched Ip Man, the dialogues were dubbed. Flashpoint had a lot of dubbed dialogues. Infernal Affair had some dubbed dialogues. Fearless had dubbed dialogues, often during quiet scenes where the only sound is the characters talking, which makes it even more jarring. All of these movies were made post 1997. I haven't seen many Hong Kong movies in recent years, but I did see a lot of them during my childhood.
@DooKNo1 IDK. I really don't like how eveything's dubbed over.I watched Ip Man last night, and again, all of the dialogues were dubbed afterwards. It just felt really jarring. Also, the soundtrack just sound really cheesy to me. Hong Kong action movies always seem to have that kind of cheesy soundtrack.
damn imagen this you trained kungfu for your whole life you a such a beat and then you just die and have to start all over in your next live damn that sux
Donnie Yen filled the Jet Li gap as Jet became way too expensive to employ. Donnie Yen wasnt made into the leading male he is now until he was around 45. There isnt much room for Wu at the moment. Wu needs better choreographers or do more films with Donnie. Most of the films he has been in as of late really dont make use of his talents. He just needs to be put in the right movie and he can shine. As of now, he hasnt been in those kind of movies.
Donnie Yen is becoming more and more popular among both Chinese and Worldwide audiences. But I honestly think WuJing deserves a lot more recognition than he currently has. Although he allows himself to take roles where he dies, he REALLY gets into character...I recommend the following films: Shaolin, Legendary Assassin, and Invisible Target.
Donnie Yen has quickly become my favorite Chinese actor ever since I saw Ip Man. Once I saw how amazing he was I realized he has actually been in a ton of Chinese movies and does an amazing job!!!
