  • can i record tv on the n900?

  • Er... how could you on any phone?

  • Hey Steve, Great Video

I really respect your opinion and would like to know if the N96 has matured enough with its new firmware updates like the old N95 did.

I know its somewhat old but I found it on ebay for 200!!

Is it worth it, and with those updates is it really much better than the N95 8GB

    Thanks

  • About the same as N95 8GB, really. Has more features but no graphics acceleration. Swings and roundabouts.

  • Hey Steve Great Video!! I wanted to know when Maemo 6 is released, do u think it will it be released on a new hardware or will be a update to the existing N900..??

also i am planning on buying a new phone and am confused between the iPhone 3Gs or N900 or the Omnia 2 or shall i wait till june till apple announces another iphone :S ?

  • Possibly. 8-)

3GS or N900 or N97 mini are all good options.

  • I actually have an iPod touch 32GB 3rd Gen so i am planning to out 3Gs... its between the mini and N900 now :S.. i guess i will wait for your next phone show possibly u will be able to review the satio and i can make a decission by then :D..

  • Hi Steve, Will there be a future firmware upgrade for N97? and around when? V20 is better than previous versions, though it seems unstable to me when compared with s60v3 devices. It can't even handle when opening Web browser and Photo app at the same time :'(. Or is it already good enough for other people?

    Thanks for your response.

  • Sounds like you're low on RAM. Suggest removing the active homescreen widgets (Accuweather and Facebook). That'll sort you out, give you another 10MB to play with. Restart the phone after removing them.

  • I eventually picked the N900. If the rumours are true then the N97 and N97 mini are just built on systems that's bound to extinct, maemo is the future and the N900 is a monster: multitasking, flashs-support, beautifull eye-candy.

can't wait till i get it in the mailbox!!

    thanks steve, keep it up!

  • N900 is certainly Nokia's future at the very high end. But Symbian is going to grow and grow as it gets used in more and more, ever-cheaper smartphones. So both win out in the end.

  • Hi Steve I was just wondering what was your favorite OS after Symbian S60

  • Heh. I love them all. Apart from Blackberry OS. And HTC's TouchFLO layer.

  • After 10 months of endless YouTube research on Phones I finally bought the Samsung HD Icon... There just isn't anything that compares to it, I was gonna wait for N900 but even that is over shadowed by the powerful Sammy HD.

  • Hi Steve. When do you anticipate you'll be reviewing the E72?

  • I have it now. Probably show 97...

  • Great. I look forward to the review as ever.

  • I have used both N97 and N97mini and I am more pleased with origional N97 againts of N97mini(Considering keyboard & screen only)..as I have feel my finger so stretched out(specially thumb) and too slow to type(as having thick thumb&fingers) as well as painful and screen does make difference when you are browsing or watching videos..

  • Hi there Steve! been watching a lot of videos this morning, cause i can't seem to choose between n97 mini and the n900.

n97 mini seems a finished product, while n900 seems not stable yet, but powerfull.

    which one would you recommend?

  • Yep. N97 mini if you want it to do most things now.

N900 if you want to do even more in 6 months time.

  • thanks for your quick reply steve, appreciate it. Can we expect a new version of the n900 or just some software updates we can simply download and upgrade the current n900?

It would be a waste of money if i would buy the n900 and it being the nintendo 8bit and in 6 months there would be a super nintendo 16bit out , if you catch my drift.

    keep it up!!

  • Both. There will be lots of software updates AND a new piece of hardware at some point in H1 2010. 8-)

  • The N900 looks amazing. I'll definitely be checking it out.

  • Hi Steve, Thanks for the video. Can you recommend a replacement for my psion 3a? It has been broken for several years, but I miss the excellent snappy OS and word processing capabilities. I currently have an E90, which is fiddly and sluggish at times. I also have a 5MX, which is great for word processing, but unfortunately just a bit too big for the pocket. Cheers.

  • Yes, get a second hand Psion 3mx!!! Or a second hand Nokia E61, which has the same office suite as the old Psion, near enough. The E61i introed the different Quickoffice suite.

  • Hmm that's an idea - the E61 sounds appealing! Seems a bit overkill though to get a 3mx as well as the 5mx, neither of which phones! Damn, someone advised the E61 when I got my E90 (for considerably less £s).

  • Sweet phone/camera come the great symbian cleanup in 2010 (if this phone will get the update ofc)

  • hi steve thnx for mentioning the sony ericsson satio. How do u find the camera lens cover?I own one and i find it slightly loose when moving it upwards otherwise its fine when i move it to the side to take photographs?

  • Not loose here.... Bugs are where the Satio falls down. it's simply too glitchy. I'd rate even R1C firmware as 'beta' status.

  • Hi Steve, will you be getting the Nokia X6 for review?

  • Yes, around Christmas time. Under the tree, perhaps? [looks at wife]

  • Ha ha.. good luck with that one! I took the plunge and went for it, its coming on Tuesday! I'm with you on the nokia N97 mini, its a awesome phone! Love it! But I do miss a capactive touchscreen! Although the N97 mini with kinectic scrolling is very user friendly!

  • He hasn't reviewed the Palm Pre has he?

  • No. Hmm... maybe I should. But the Pre has pretty plasticky hardware and has been a sales disappointment around the world. Is anyone seriously yearning for me to review it?

  • I am :p...even if only for webOS since hardware will eventually get better as exampled by the Pixi

  • It'll be the last palm device you'll ever have to review....

  • I took your advice from the last show and got myself a new G1 for 100 pounds on ebay. I cant even compare it to my previous nokia n78... however i do miss the camera quality.

    Great show keep it up.

  • hey steve I owned a Nokia N810 and loved it!!!! i Have 550 us dollars, and have been thinking to buy a N900. Should i save my money for the next maemo device??? Im concerned with the depreciation. i would hate to spend 550 bucks today and the phone only be worth half that 5 months from now. let me know what you think.

  • Well, depreciation always works like that. But yes, I'd say go for it. Nokia are doing regular s/w updates.

  • @stevelitchfield Thanks for the Advice, I think im going to take the plunge. And great show. In fact i created a youtube account intitially for the sole purpose of subsribing to this channel. Great work, you seem to be the only fellow that see's mobile technology for what is.

  • I disagree with Steve that the term 'smartphone' needs to be redefined. If analysts are concerned that they are becoming too democratized (LOL!) then maybe they should just get to the point and refer to them as 'phones costing more than, say £150'.

  • Welcome to 2007, Nokia

Maemo looks hella tight, Symbian, idk about still.

  • agree
