@32middlelinebacker I had the canopy built by ARS, custom, including the color match to the body. Thanks for the nice comment. I insulated the canopy with 1" thick closed cell foam. I also installed a 12,000 BTU double vented RV furnace (propane). There are also cutouts of the foam that I place into the windows at night. 4" of Open Cell foam on the bottom. Plus wooden cabinets to keep my beagles out of the food!!
@1966ih pretty well just a low pro camper then eh? Deecent. Im almost done mine. Dana 80 rear dana 60 front out of dodges, keeping the stock np202 in there, getting my friends dad to build a 450hp 383 for it mated to a 700r4 tranny. Gunna run 37's and its got a pretty good lookin bushgaurd on it from when my grandpa bought it new in 1964. thinkin of making an aluminium slip tank for under the box in between the fram rails and either have a pump to push fuel to the main tank or just run the slip.
@32middlelinebacker Sounds like you have a solid vision with realistic expectations. Check out my BUILD UP videos. I had Fuel Safe in Oregon build to my drawings, a 70 gallon aluminum fuel cell, The old IH had the gas tank under the passenger outside frame rail. That is a death trap in a side collision. If you decide you want tires chains for your 37's let me know. I build 'em.
@1966ih for sure! and yeah my tank is on the passengers side too. I was thinking of building a step rail/rock gaurd as a little bit of t-bone protection as cheap insurance for my body panels but i doubt it. 70 gallons is alot haha but im only looking for a smaller one, 200 liters. Thanks for the offer on the tire chains but you are probably out of the states im assuming and im western canada, maybe too much effort for a set of chains! Any changes you would do next time you built a new fuel cell?
@32middlelinebacker No. When I designed my frame I made it a bit wide between the rails so the tank could fit between them. There are three 8" channels between the frame rails at front, middle and back of fuel cell. If I got t-boned, to get to the tank the 8" C channels would have to bend axially. Not likely! Fuel Safe did modify my design a little in that they added a "scavenger box" inside. It is basically a small box with ping pong balls for check valves to trap sloshing fuel.
@Cheapbikes No. it is built from 3"x8"x1/4" wall structural steel tubing. Cross member are 8" "C" channel gusseted with 6" channel. Frame weighs 1,000 lbs all by itself. Check out my build up videos to see it.
@Torqu3d It is 8'6" wide. Especially with the tire chains on (that is another 500 pounds of weight which centers on the wheel) she is very stable on side hills. Yep, she is a throttle body fuel injected 502 crate motor. However, I put on a 3" diameter Borla stainless steel exhaust system with the longest and most quiet exhaust they had. She already draws enough attention with her looks and I did not want to give the authorities anything else to wonder about!!
@TheBigrodger Thanks. Been wheeling the last 5 weekends in a row in Forkston. I am keeping the trails open from fallen trees and growth. Got down to zero this weekend. Love my propane RV furnace!! About a foot of snow up top at 2400 feet and only 4 inches down the bottom at 800 feet. Tough to do any good video when I am by myself. Tnx for the nice comment. Ron
@numerobis1982 The truck probably has around 40K into her. The Rockwell FDS was used in a lot of applications. A popular one was f600-f700 Ford mid 1980s to early 90's. Not sure where the rear Spicer N175 was used. Eintre drive train from engine back is about 25KGVW. Tranny is 6 speed Eaton Fuller FS7206A (2 inch dia output shaft-9 to one low gear). Transfer case is Fabco TC 38, weight 475 lbs. 2 inch dia input & output shafts.
@1966ih damn.. this is a "fucking" monster truck to me...
every year we are riding our 4x4 to the chalet when the skidoo trails are closed then there is about 2 ft of hard snow and mud in some places , i guess this truck could goes straight thru without any worries... anyway nice job , im verry impressed and i will continue to watch your videos ;)
That was some sick truckin man I have never seen snow and this gave me a glimps of what I would want to do in the snow go off road nice got stuck sometimes but she handle it like a champ like where u put the chainsaw equipment gotta have it very awesome video God Bless and Aloha.
@lumlain Yep! She loves gas. HI-TEST!! I have a 70 gallon fuel cell on her. My typical wheeling range is about twice that of a "normal" vehicle with a stock gas tank. But I really need to be employed to afford to wheel her!!!
Thank you so much for the info I will be purchasing chains from Clothier before hunting season. Those look much better than other chains I've looked at and for a good price!!! I just got lockers in both ends so I am excited to go and try it out. Thnaks again!
Hi there I love your truck! I was wondering what tire pressure your running while using chains? I moved to montana and am new to wheeling in the snow any advise would be appreciated. I'm running a k5 blazer with 38's. Thanks
@k5blazer19871111 My Iroks can only run 25 psi max by design. I run about 20 psi in them most of the time. In NE USA there is a lot of ice and the chains do the trick regardless of tire pressure. If flotation is an issue then as is normal practice air down. Check out clothiertraction on the web for true off road tire chains.
@crash01369 Chris, you should come by this spring and give it another whirl. You will find the road got quite a bit rougher onthe lower portions of the mountain because of a freak rainstorm in Feb where Forkston got hit with 5 inches of rain in 4 hours. Not much has changed up top but the roads leading up to the top are considerably more chewed up. Let me know if you get the bug to go play.
Thanks a bunch! It means a lot to me to get this type of positive feedback. I was itching to do more videos this winter but we didn't get any decent snow in our area until about 10 days ago. Hopefully next year will be better. If you ever want any input on a build up project feel free to ask. I ahev an awful lot of Spicer/Eaton Fuller Eng info on my end I can share.
Mike, I remember you! Thats why I bust your chops to come on up. Its not TOO far of a drive!! In another month or so after all the snow is gone it will be an outrageously sloppy trail. Lots of fun to be had.
hahaha. thanks. well hopefully i will have about a 2 inch lift sometime this week!! yea...im doin the junkyard lift with chopped s10 add a leaves...and front v-8 grand cherokee coil springs. should give me about 1 -1/2 to 2 inch lift. and new wheels and shocks hopefully. ill let you know whats going on!
Things are good up here. I have built and sold a lot of custom tire chains lately for large off road tires. Of course, I am too cheap and stil use my 20 year old set of 5/16" material on my own rig instead of using the heavier & more aggressive 3/8" material I sell!!! Maybe next season I will finally break down and upgrade!!
Thank you. I love the old IH "look", too. All that is left of the original IH is the sheet metal/cab/bed - but you know, even the doors close SOLID on it! IH had a great rep for a reason.
Looks like a beautiful weekend, winter skipped the NW this year :( Say that 502 give you any cooling problems, you worked her pretty hard? P.S. props tp the camera girl
I have TWO full size BECOOL radiators on her. One in the normal front grille location and another tucked up underneath the bed of the truck with it's own 14" electric fan. As you suspected one radiator is not enough for this type of extended beating at such low speed. To turn those huge chained tires for pretty much 40 minutes straight requires about 2X normal cooling capacity - even in the cool weather!!
Thanks Daniel. Any more snow and we would have had real issues! As it was the quads with 4 tire chains were left down the base of the mountain. They kept sinking in the deeper drifts.
back at it again! i love this truck and would still love to come up and go wheeling! im hoping to do a cheap cheap lift....haha chopped s10 leaves for an add a leaf in the back (heard it works really well) and front v8 grand cherokee coils for the higher coil rate with a .75 inch spacer...hopefully a guy i go wheeling with will still have skyjacker shocks 2-4 inch lift worth...and he has some offset rims for me from an old ford he has.
Good luck with the mods you have planned. If you ever come down this way I can take you on a 9 mle - one way - trail run. Takes about 5 hours round trip (unless you are having fun and getting stuck!!).
that is a sweet ride, thanks for sharing
