Cookingupastory: I have heard that if you put your seeds in the freezer they can be kept indefinately. Like the seed bank they have up in one of the scandinavian countries.
great info, HighPlanisWoman - thanks! that makes sense about cold-storing them. I was thinking I could move mine to the garage, but that might prove to be too damp (it's not insulated). thots?
I actually have 4 boxes (I alphabetize mine too).
One is for vegetables and herbs, one is for flowers, one small one for greens, and one is peas and beans. Interesting to then put them in dated baggies...
about what size are the boxes, myrnaukelele? small enough for the seed packets to stand upright? or do you have some sort of dividers too? thanks for sharing your method too.
Thanks, blismwithmyblizblop! Jean Ann has some good info to share, and I'll be posting her tips here from time to time, all season - hope you can stay tuned!
wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think I am the most crazy gardener. I have two boxes, one has the seeds I am going to sow directly in the ground and the other box has the ones I start early. The are all alphabetical and each section is organized by date. I also have all seed written down on a list so I know what I have to buy and what I dont have to buy. heheheheheh I always buy more then I need. see told ya I was crazy.
Like DoctorsWife56 said, seeds are quite an investment - so it makes sense you keep track of them - where they are *and* when to plant them. Not crazy - just smart!
This is a great idea. And, I'm the opposite of anal. That's why this helps. I'm already using large & small baggies to keep types and seasons together & sorted. I'm going to try the sleeves & box. thanks. Seeds are quite an investment!
Hey I have a speckled roman seed packet too!

The colder you can keep your seeds stored the better for prolonging their lifespan. I overwinter my seed packs in an unheated room during the winter.
I have them in 4 baggies; one for summer veggies, fall veggies, herbs and flowers. I haven't gotten to this stage of organization yet.

I try to at least keep mine in the same box. This way would work out a lot better but I'm a man and not suppose to be so organized. LOL ...... Donald
