Consider yourself sufficiently blown. This is not the precursor to the transformers because this includes no AI. This is entirely user controlled, and if I had to guess, I would say those are magnets in the middle of all the triangles. Electric impulses make the magnets move closer, then they attract, thus explaining the sudden snap after they reach a threshold. Still has a lot of promise though.
OMG finally I was getting so sick of folding paper it's so physically draining ya know i was just praying someone would come along and solve this issue, thanks so much for putting so much thought, time, and effort into this feild which has been in such a need for advancement.
Titan Maximum, of Adult Swim, needs new robot power to combat their sexual dysfunciton; and the Venture Brothers, of Adult Swim, needs a new self-folding robot to feed their nightmare of their insane father. This is good stuff, morphing materials has been around, and to make use of it is purposeful; imagine fitting in tight spaces and then unfolding an anchor with camera. The self-folding robot actuators, Mechwarrior is happy.
On a macro scale it isn't that useful, the boat and plane are just proof of concept. However, the creators at MIT envision adaptable swill army knives that can become wrenches or tripods. On a micro scale this could be used for many medical application. The ability to have tiny implants in the body that are capable of reconfiguration in response to circumstances is very valuable. We are talking programmable matter. As this becomes more robust, it will allow our world to shape to fit us
so unussual but it's kinda amazing…

@darkstone243 Think about it as a screen of some future device that can raise and change itself to the user's whim. Great enough?

I dont think i would count this as "programmable matter" its just a series of electro magnets on material with folds in it....
