lydia - shes more an artiste rather than a musician. with her its CONTEXT. (im not an expert on Lydia). her songs seem to be a concrete manifestation of what she felt inside of her - a culmination of her past problems with her family, i guess. "i just want them to FEEL something". i think i understand that train of thought.

@replikant0101, before siouxsie?! Siouxsie came out in 1976/1977. This is from 1982. The real no wave pioneers was late 1970s/1980 as well. Lunch was a fake poser.

Actually, Siouxsie was the poseur running around up John Lydon's ass for the better part of 2 years from 76-77. The Banshees sounded like every other Pistols clone around that time. They didn't have an original sound until 1978.

And Teenage Jesus & The Jerks shaped the no wave sound in 1977, sir.

I don't remember exactly what I said about Siouxsie but she was basically a groupie that followed around John Lydon all the time and early on that's all The Banshees were.

Lydia Lunch, while a groupie herself at one time, made original music with The Jerks in 1976 before The Banshees put out "The Scream".

I agree with what you say, except that I don't think Lydia considered what she was doing at that time with Teenage Jesus to be music, as it were. It was the whole "No NY/No Wave" thing.

To me, it's great that people like Siouxsie (or even Chrissie Hynde) who were basically just hanging out at that time-- could go from being groupies or whatever to having real bands (as well as real talent...)
