awesome car man! i'm getting ready to put a big mutha thumpa cam in my 68 coupe, just got my exhaust on today. Flowmaster super 44's check it out on my channel!
i have a 66 mustang with a 302 out of a 68 Ford, not sure what exactly. it is .030 over, has regular headers, an aluminum intake, torker 289 i believe, a 4bbl carb, only either a stock cam, or a mild, close to stock cam. id like to have the noticable lope on my car as well. did you need to modify you engine in anyway besides a cam and lifter set, to have the cam working well?
Hey nice stang. What made you choose a 268 Xtreme energy cam oppose to a XE 274 or a 282. & are you running a manual or auto trans (I can't tell) but it appears your drive train doesn't match your cam when taking off in the street. Overall LOVE THE CAR AND IT'S AGGRESSIVENESS.
@icewear08 I chose the 268 because it was the least wild cam with noticeable lope that I could get without changing the cylinder heads. The higher you go, the more violently the car shakes. I have a 4 speed manual transmission.
beautiful car... do you think a 289 would have enough back pressure to handle 3 inch exhaust? because i love the sound of 3 inch flowys. and i want to put that on my 68 mustang
@MUSTANGRACER111 Yeah, I don't see why not. The 289 isn't much different from the 302. You may lose a few pounds(single digit loss) of torque but nothing noticeable outside of a dyno. The change is volume and tone is much more drastic which makes it 100% worth it in my opinion despite the minute power loss. As you continue to build up your engine, this loss will quickly become obsolete and if anything, the extra flow will boost the gains from certain future modifications.
i just got a 86 that had been sitting in storage for 8 years.. had to put a new intake and carb on.. runs awesome.. motor and trans has less than 10K on it.. it came with the 289 factory first but it was swaped out.. :-D i added a video of it for ya..
yeah man for sure, honestly i didnt know it made that much of a difference. and yeah ill look into those headers, almost done with that new engine now. but yeah its a automatic lol.
thanks man. the 2.5in is pretty standard. you would be surprised what an extra half inch does to the deepness and volume of your exhaust. also be sure to get some nice LT headers. Do you have an automatic or manual tranny?
niceee ride man. sounds pretty insane. i've got a '65 that we're building a 302 for now. from what i can tell it has pretty much all the same goods as yours lol. including the 268 duration cam. hope it sounds like this!
sounds great, i totally dig the sound!! super clean classic as-well!!!!
btw my brother has the same 268H in his A-body...if your feeling froggie later, jump on over to my profile and let me know what you think of the skylark!
Hi dude! Wow, it really sounds wicked! I have a 67` with Tri-Y and 2,5" Flowmaster 40s.....but I`d say yours sounds are bit more sick :) Never say 3" Flowmaster pipes before, or are they selfmade?
all of the local exhaust shops carry 3in. you shouldn't have a problem getting ahold of 18 feet of pipe and then have a local exhaust shop use the machine to bend the pipe to fit your car. 3 in makes a world of difference in sound, despite anything anyone tells you.
haha yeah it does. The theme of the car is black and red [painting it matte black] so that ugly white filter is definitely out of place. Needs a whole lot more than a new air filter tho lol. thanks for the comment.

That's what i like about 268XE Comp cams, they give a good rumble and it's a light cam.

lmafia9009 2 years ago
since its an auto you can lower your idle more than i can. which will make it lope more. try setting your idle to 500 rpms.

Damn dude, great sound.
Some hot rods sound like an old tractor or something. Yours sounds like it's playing a song. No throttle lag either.
Nice job.

Is that the comp. cams 'high energy' series 268H ? Just curious, I have a 66 with a 289 and am thinking about running that one.
specialsillin 2 years ago
Yes. highly recommended if you have stock heads. Highest you could go on duration would be like 270 tho.
