  • Third good looking indie game in a row with a female character. Stop this nonsense, these would be so good otherwise.

  • found my way here from pixeljoint. I'm a fan of your hardwork. Your stuff is right up my alley.

  • This suits WiiWare. Good job!

  • This game looks great! but I would suggest tweaking the speed, either in boss fights, or altogether.

  • I want to play this version too!

  • Even if it is an old version this looks like a game I'd enjoy playing. Love that girls sarcastic attitude too lol there aren't many games where I can actually say the dialogue is good or funny.

  • looks kinda boring, i hope there is more to the game than this, the combat elements look dull and repetitive, all N' all this game looks uninteresting and did not capture my attention well.

  • nice dude what did you used to make it??

  • the dialoque was refreshing! ^^

and i especially like the background graphics! niiice

  • @CalinedMusic: I'm glad you like the dialogue, it was kind of a highlight of that version of the game - Iya was all kinds of a sarcastic brat in there, while most other characters spoke "more traditionally". One of these days I have to go back and at least make a distributable demo of this, as a ton of content was created before I scrapped it.

  • yeah that would be cool!

it would be a shame if such a project would disappear forever, there should be at least a demo or something to do a lasting impression

  • 2:50 What direction is she supposed to be looking in?

  • Comment removed

  • the blob fell down and im like holy shit... then the awesome evil laugh stats up and then i go HOLY SHIT!! cool!

  • that was one hell of a difficult fight lmfao

  • OMFG! THe boss music! Some ...Nightwish! SOMEthing! ARGH!

I can't remember the song damnit!

  • Crownless from Wishmaster.

  • Nightwish - Crownless

  • I want this game. Give me game. Me love you(or your game) long time :3?

  • maplestory?

  • Nope - sorry, never played that, but from the artwork I saw it looked... cute. This was inspired by Jill of the Jungle, and the original Dizzy on ZX Spectrum... Damn! I'm old!

  • Looks good , what did you use to make it? d3d?

  • Nahh - GameMaker5

  • if you cant make your own music you should tyr flstudio or milkytracker [milkytracker is free and fun to use]

  • Thanks man - I'll check those out. Music is a real problem for me as I never learned to use any of the actual music tools before.

  • Yeah - the other one is GM as well... It has since advanced much further past the point shown in that video, but I hate when people overexpose their games long before they finish them, so the next time I upload a video, it will be a demo or a trailer.

I worked with GM's 3D capabilities once. I didn't use any DLLs, so I ended up inputting all my models via individual draw polygon commands... which was quite idiotic.. but looked better than 90% of 3D GM games out there: )

  • It was too obviously done with GM.

Going down to even using GM's Dummy SFX, I could tell it was GM from the first time the text box opened.

  • I'll give you the sound effects part, though to the best of my memory I only used the default explosion sound, but how were my custom dialog panels a giveaway of the game being written in GM? There is literally nothing straight-up GM about them: ) Now, if I had one of those gray pop-up dialog boxes, you could say I half-assed it.

BTW: the sound in that game was never worked on - everything you hear was either recorded or downloaded as an afterthought.

  • The sound for the text appearing was in GM's default sound effects packs.

  • Wow - yeah - you're absolutely right!: ) I didn't even realize that - beep3.wav!

Ohh well - I guess I spent even less time with the sound here than I thought.

  • Heh, by the way, that other game that looks like this but better, in the related vids "The Legend of Iya".

Is that still GM? I myself am not to bad at using Game Maker. But I like to work with the U3D DLL for the sake of 3D graphics, one because I think they look better, and 2 because you don't need to make 300 images per character.

  • THIS IS SPARTA!!!!

    [you said 300. get it?]

  • does it need to not be obvious? GM takes so much credit youd have to be blind not to notice that it was made with that

  • I beg to differ, check out darkfalzx's newer video of this game, I never figured out it was GM till I searched the comments.

  • I didnt think it was GM at first either. but when you open a game the loading bar is a dead give away. I'd still prefer it over MMF2 though.

  • You can change or disable the loading bar, but many amateurs get soooo excited about finishing the game, they don't even bother.

  • I meant the infamous pop-up. Which apparently is impossible to get rid of, even if you add in-game loading screens.

  • I have no clue what pop-up your talking about.

  • On the game I'm working on, as soon as you click the icon, a window appears, there is no visible proof that the game was/is in fact made/being-made with Game Maker.

  • I never new about that :p

  • Your talking about the funky blue thing with a red bar that in gold characters says "Game Maker"?

  • yep

  • Yea, just change it in the "global game settings"

  • i knew that :). didnt know you could completely disable it though. did you use a transparent gif or something?

  • No there is a fill hole on the loading section that says " No loading progress "

  • did you use MMF2 for this?

  • Nahh - this was done in GameMaker 5.0

  • how did you get the graphucs so good?

  • Well, I think of myself as a decent pixel artist , but if you are referring to all the neat parallax, linescrolling and particles - it's all easily doable in GM. In fact there is a common misconception, where people think GameMaker is somehow less capable than MMF, mostly because pretty much every GameMaker game out there looks like ass (for a rather remarkable exception look up Valdis Story), but the truth is - with a little ingenuity you can make great-looking games even in GM4.

  • I commented on your other LoI video. Comparing the two, I have to say Iya looks cuter here, haha!

Though considering her attacks, she seems to be a slower-moving version of Mia from Eternal Daughter.

This slime boss is quickly reminding me of Salvo the Slime from Yoshi's Island and Max Slimer from CvHoD.

  • hey what's that music.. I remember it. Some metal group mayhaps, except midified.

  • It's a rather crappy midi rendition of Crownless by Nightwish. Writing music is one thing I never learned to do, so for the moment all music in my games is stolen from somewhere else: )

  • The animation of the slime is really smooth. This looks like a promising game.

  • Unfortunately this GameMaker 5 version is scrapped. Check out the video of my newer version of this game. Hopefully I'll compile a trailer for it sometime soon (if you thought the purely procedural slime animation was smooth, just you wait until you see the newest one - it's all full-frame stuff: )

  • Ouch, yeah, this version sounds horrible. It's pretty much night and day. The animation in the newer one is just...wow.

  • it reminds me ffor Yoshis island jellys boss LOL

  • excellent - outstanding sprites - is it downloadable?

  • I am afraid to release this scrapped version of the project publicly as it is not particularly polished past the initial 10 or so minutes, and features many puzzles, enemies and bosses that just don't work right. As I make progress on the newer incarnation of this game, I periodically pop back in to the old version and tweak and add stuff simply out of the desire for a change of scenery.

  • awesome dude. you should go check out my preview. im an indie gamer as well.

  • Great stuff. :P

  • great level graphics & backgrounds

  • castlevania wtf?
