  • good tips thanks

  • Hey Glen , awesome vidz , but could you please help some of us out with a how to load ur Boss to a program tutorial !!! i can see it on my Adobe Audition 3 but no sound and cant record , also reaper doesnt see the boss at all ...

  • @muradobaisat You have to make sure you download and install the correct boss driver for your operating system and then on the boss unit in the USB settings you have to have it set to "advanced" and"enable"

  • @extremevideopro Thank you for the quick response. about the driver , i downloaded the windows 7 driver from bossus website , and installed it correctly , but didnt try the advanced mood your talking about , i got this until like 3 days ago , and still new to boss :) thanks again

  • hi Glen, I am really interested in recording my guitar via my GT10 is Cubase the best software for doing this and does it come with the drum and base tracks?

  • @studuncskip7 Cubase is very good but it's a high learning curve. It does not come with drum & bass tracks but you can find that free most anywhere. You might want to try Reaper or Abelton Live.

  • what sofeware you are using?

  • @hk19950329 Cubase SX3

  • can i create a drum track in gt-10?

  • @hk19950329 No you cannot.

  • @extremevideopro so how can i put a drum track in gt-10?

  • O yeah this guy is awesome, I have his patches in my rig right now.

Some reason they sound KILLER when I put the GT10 into headphone input and out to my tophat.

  • Does garageband work for recording through the gt10?

  • @XLR8Guitars Hmm, not sure. Maybe someone else can answer that.

  • @XLR8Guitars yeah man, it works great.

  • @XLR8Guitars YES it Does ! via usb or cable

  • how do i record using cubase SX3 ?

  • @N2ader I have an audio interface. I use the Event Electronics Gina 24

  • Which one sounds better to you (since you've demoed both) - The Line 6 Pod Hd500 or The Boss GT-10! I'm confused as to which one to get but I'm leaning towards the Boss Gt-10 b/c of its usability! I like the Ez tone too, and it seems more streamlined. Also, Can you record or stream audio into phrase loops on the gt-10?! I know with the pod hd500 you can record vocals or audio into your loops!! Thanks

  • Which is a good usb cable to use for usb recording, or does the cable not make much of a difference? I've been looking at a B Bus or mini B bus from kimber kable but I'm not sure which one will work the best. Can anyone answer my question. Thanks

  • @MetalGuitarist294 I don't think the USB cable makes much difference.

  • Hi From BOLIVIA!

nice method glen, thanks for share it...

how you reduce the latency with USB? i have this problem with the cubase LE 4 and my boss gt 10

  • @froy1986 Hey Cristhian, make sure you have the Boss GT-10 driver selected in the device setting within Cubase.

  • could someone tell me if GT-10 has the dual-cosm feature?

  • @reghin79 yes it does

  • @extremevideopro i have a problem when i record with the GT10 ... i cant seem to get a good distortion sound out of my gt-10 on my recordings .. like the one you just played right now was basically straight from ur gt-10 to the computer with no post effects right ? .. any tips regarding that ? mine just doesnt sound like clear enough

  • wooooow there is such a difference!!! Thanks for tip

  • VERY DREAM TEATRICAL THING,NICE RIFFS NICE TONE:)))))

  • In u'r face!!! this is da shit!

  • can i record a dry signal through my boss gt-10, but while recording i want to hear distortion so i know my mistakes better, and harmonics if they have come out or not?? will it give me 24 bit output??if i can can pls some1 tell me how, or do u have to buy a audio interface device :( which is going to cost money

    thanks you

  • Wow really nice sounds!I checked your website but i couldn't fintd these metal patces.....plz healp cause you ve got really nice sounding patces and i want t try out them

  • @gjk200000 They are in my GT-10 bundle. If you download the bundle and open it in Librarian you will see them. Thanks

  • thats pretty good, but why replay and rerecord the second track of every new patch and not just copy and past what u just recorded to the next track?? unless u want suttle variety in the rythm..otherwise thats a pretty fat sound. i take it rendering time is alot longer.

  • @rickru1 Yes it's not the same to just copy. it. Every time you play it it's different so that is what makes it sound better. Rendering only takes a few seconds even on an older system.

  • @rickru1 Hi, the reason we don't just cut and paste is because your initial take is played in a certain frequency or strokes. Not every note on the guitar strings arrive precisely the same way each time...kinda like lightening - as no bolt ever stricks the exact same point or no ripple/swirl in a water current is repeated exactly the same way. So as such, when you just cut and paste, it won't sound as wide and as full as you would re-recording it. Unfortunately this is the case.

  • sounds really nice! i'm getting my gt10 tomorrow and really want to start recording my own songs with it :) I have cubase 5.2 can I connect the boss gt10 to it? can I record bass with my regular gt10?

  • @CypherThanatos Yes in fact I used the GT-10 for some bass parts on my latest Blues CD.

  • What drums are you using for backing tracks?

  • @7thsonofa7son I use Toon Tracks EZ Drummer.

  • @extremevideopro Drumkit From Hell? I'm too, but it doesn't sound so =(

  • @7thsonofa7son No this is not DFH I use the Nashville Kit

  • @extremevideopro hmm, thanks I'll try it =)

  • ive had a pblm with my gt-10, ive connected it to my comp via USB and the plugged my amp through the output, when im rec the patch sounds the way i want it, but the sec i unplug the amp can hear alot of fuzz through my speakers, then i turned of everything xepct the preamp and the fuzz just reduced but its not great quality what should i do?

  • @moneymoney220666 Were you trying to record when doing this?

  • @extremevideopro yes i was, it was recording but its just fuzz, is it my sound card??? i have a really shitty 1, its the inbuilt thing which i got with my computer

  • @moneymoney220666 Yes that's the problem. You should be using USB to record through the GT-10

  • @extremevideopro i was using the USB

  • When you are making a GT-10 patch that you plan on using to record direct, what do you use to monitor or amplify the patch so you know that when it's recorded it will sound good?

  • @beewoy Good question. I use a very good set of headphones. I use Equation Audio Ear Tools

  • @extremevideopro I have Audacity... it sucks, but it works for now. I just figured out what I was doing wrong. I had to go to the control panel > speakers > and then swicth it from computer mic to gt-10 inputs. Thanks for the help though.

  • @telecasterman18 Cool, glad you got it figured out. Now go have fun...

  • Question for you; How do you hook up your gt-10 to your Pc to and get the Pc to pick up any sound? I have all the USB and midi cables and the farthest I can get is linking it to create patches. .... But not record anything.... Any help is appreciated.

  • @telecasterman18 You need recording software. Do you have that? Try Reaper. it has a free trial. Most recording softwares have free trials.

  • Question : how do you get pinch harmonics using that style of picking ?

  • @rockrocktillyoudrop That's a good question. I have to angle my thumb just the right way and I am able to do it.

  • Yo! do you use the headphone jack or usb for recording going to the pc using your cubase?

  • @KaYzEeTUBE Neither, I use the L&R analog outputs of the X3 right into my computer audio interface.

  • Hey Glenn great vid thanks!

Do you use a keyboard controller or pad for your drumming? They sound great good drummin! Very inspiring stuff!! Thanks

  • @pakblueman I use a keyboard

  • Another question: can you tell your preference between Emg and SD pickup? and why. Thanks!

  • Hi! I have a Schecter Omen 6 extr FR with the schecter serie's pickups, is it a good idea to change those pickups. Someone suggest me SeamorDucan Jb. What do you think of that. And What do you think about Audicity for recording? Thanks a lot for your advice.

  • what is the recording program you use called, and where can I download it?

  • @LukasOddeDK It's called Cubase and you can download it from directly from Steinberg(DOT)net

  • What did you use to record the drums backing track? Reason or a similar software? Thanks. BTw it sounds great, nice patches

  • @Aristowi I use Toon Track Superior Drummer

  • @extremevideopro How did you record the GT10? Did you mic up an amp, or was it through USB? I'm having trouble trying to record in Sonar through USB.

  • @KDawgAtsu It was USB. Make sure the settings on the GT-10 in the System/USB settings are set to "enable" and "Advanced". Also in Sonar you must make the the ASIO device is set to BOSS GT-10 driver. You did download and install the Boss Gt-10 USB drivers right??

  • @extremevideopro Yes, the drivers are installed and both the input and output drivers are set to the BOSS GT-10 Drivers. I can see that I'm getting audio input in the track, but I'm just not sure as to why I'm not getting any output. Also, when recording with USB, did you have any latency problems with the GT-10?

  • @KDawgAtsu No, zero latency. So are you not able to record a track with the GT-10 USB?

  • sounds brilliant

  • metal murderrrr!!

  • I can't find a place where I can buy the boss GT-10 usb

  • @LukasOddeDK Try your USB printer cable

  • I can't findt a boss gt-10 USB capability!

    Can you help me?

  • hmm ya.. u hav a point there :)

  • cant we jus copy and paste the guitar recorded once?? i think that'd work jus as gud!!!

  • @maddyriaz yes you can do that but it is definitely not the same as actually playing each time. Because each you play it, the minute differences is what makes it sound good.

  • @extremevideopro hi there does the boss gt 10 come with recording software? thanks!!!

  • @cup7of7satisfaction7 No it does not

  • @cup7of7satisfaction7 You can use free programs like audacity. Simple but god.

  • Where did you buy this recording software? and how did you make the bass and drum tracks?

  • @GH3H3RO1212 You can find the recording software at many places online. I think mine came from Sweetwater. I play the bass and I use EZ drummer for drums.

  • @extremevideopro Thank you

  • drop d ?

  • @NailedSolo Yes drop D

  • @extremevideopro k man ,thanks. Im pretty impressed about your picking technique ive never seen something like that . subbed.

  • what has better tones for deathcore, hardcore, and slipknot etc?? i have a marshall mg 250 so what whould sound better??

  • @moneymoney220666 Line6 usually has better high gain sounds for that type of music.

  • how would you go about doing it live then? you'd like need to either have like 2-3 guitars or create a super mix of the three tone patches right? or would you just use one of the patches?

  • @sourcehacker No just use 1 of the patches.

  • wow man! this is so so so so good!!! hah thanks! I'm so excited to try this. I'm tempted to try that sustainer pickup and the JB junior on my strat after watching that too haha.

seriously though, thanks alot for sharing this knowledge!

  • Hello Glenn , i suppose that somebody already ask you before this, but i can´t found it. the question is if you have this patches or similar (of course) for the POD X3?, i´ve already downloaded your entire bundle but again i cant find the metal murder, etc, equivalent.. if those patches already exist, please tell me how i can get them? :) .. i used this for recording in a gt10 but now i got the X3

  • @cags12 Well, the tones in this video demo were from the GT-10 as you know. i guess the POD X3 equivalent to these sounds would probably my Plexi Rythm tones from my X3 bundle. might not have enuff' gain though so you would have to adjust the gain to max level on the X3 amp models.

  • Glen,

I've been playing guitar for 30+ years and I found you on Youtube, I just wanted to say that I'm a big fan of yours, you sound and play fantastic, and you're a really good teacher to the younger generation, keep up the good work and thanks for all you do.

  • @AuroraRegalis Well, Thank you very much

  • greatttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt

  • would yu recommend the x3 live or gt10

  • It really depends on alot of things. What type of music will you be playing and will you be using an amp to play live or just direct recording??

  • i mainly play metal but i also want clean.i want to direct record and play live but id be using the PA for live so i dont need an amp

  • IDK man I think the GT-10 is a great all around unit. I think for metal there are about maybe 2 or 3 of the amp models that sound good but that is enuff'. You really don't need 12 different good sounding amps you just need one really good one. The GT-10's rectifier model is very good. Check out alexromechado here on youtube. He has gone through alot of the GT-10 models and demoed them.

  • COOL riff ,,,,:)

  • Hey man great vid. But i have a problem. When i record it sounds really bad. i use a USB cord and record with audacity. but it sounds like horible. i recoreded before with it and it sounded really good but all of a sudden it sounded like the speakers were were going to blow. Do you konw what the problem is?

  • IDK man, sounds like you are clipping the signal. Try backing off on the output a little or using the Pad Switch.

  • Glen, how do you get your drum tracks? do you record live drums or do you use a plug in?

  • I program my drum parts using a MIDI keyboard and for the sounds I use Toon Track EZ Drummer Nashville Kit and DFH Kits.

  • what is the red box called in the stack with the gt-10 etc. ???

  • That's a VOX Satchurator. Cool pedal!!

  • Sounds little of a weaker metal In Flames, could be since there's no screaming vocals xD

  • Nice vid! Love that tone! all the patches sounded good alone, but after the mix it really sounded heavy.

Are you in Standard tuning or Drop D?

  • Drop "D"

  • That's what I thought...Thanks for the quick response and valuable info!

  • Thank you for your willingness to share your knowledge and talent, and in such a clear and polite way.

You are an credit to your Parents.

  • Hi Glen. How do you make the panning for these 5 Tracks

All to center or first left, second right.....

    Or....?

  • I just spread them around the sound field. I show this in the video at 8:52

  • Hello Glen, your lessons are always too accurate, but I want to ask you something, maybe is stupid, I connected Boss gt 10 via USB to my computer, but I can not get a good sound, I have the right driver, I have the cubase software, I have the GT 10 in advance mode (enable) , what else I need to get sound, maybe is something in the software settings ? I made all the settings but I still having problems, excuses for disturbing you anyway, thanks for all your helping videos.

  • You have to select the GT-10 driver in Cubase. Go to the audio devices and then look for VST Multi-track. You will be able to choose what asio driver to use. Choose the Boss GT-10 driver.

  • Thanks a lot Glenn, now I can record, now I don't know how I can record the drums, I only can hear the drums, I can not record them, let me tell you that I can handle a lot of programs, but this is the first time that a software kick my "head" too much (Cubase sx 3)

  • I assume you have a drums program like EZ drummer. If you want to record them you have to have some sort of MIDI controller to beat out the patterns. EZ drummer has lots of pre-made grooves though so you can just piece your drum track together from the different grooves they give you.

  • you're very helpul Glenn, thank you so much !!!!!!!

  • thank you so much again, now it's working.

  • Well actually my interface has 4 stereo imputs and i´m gonna plug my guitar direct into the interface, how i´m gonna go into my imputs with only 1 cable, sorry if it sound stupid!

    and thanks for the explanartions

  • Yeah a out the track it is a setereo track enable, but when you say tha i need a left & right input from your guitar source you mean a stereo jack imput in my guitar????? like those on guitars with active pickups????

    thanks

  • No, I mean you have to have a L&R channel to record. For example. I am using the Boss GT-10 for this. I am coming out of the L&R outputs of the GT-10 into my audio interface L&R input. If you only have 1 input what you could do is enable 2 mono tracks and record them at the same time and then pan each one left & right. Then add your stereo effects like reverb 7 delay if you like and your all set. :)

  • wow Glen thnx 4 a gr8 vid again!!

....but how do u get the backing drum tracks???

  • I create the drum track using EZ Drummer

  • @extremevideopro Hi Glenn! Can you tell me a good audio interface? Thanks!

  • @coeurvaillan2470 Presonus makes some very good audio interfaces. Also M-Audio.

  • Hey man amazing wall of sound that´s great, buit let me ask you that, i´m recording here on my cubase with my guitar pluged direct on my fast track ultra from m-audio and i realesed that the sound from my plugins like guitar rig 4 and others guityar sims, sounds 1000 times better with stereo track than with mono tracks , but when a i record my guitars, the recorded tone has only 1 waveform, not two like yours only the up wave form of the track it´s recording do you know why?

  • First you have to have a stereo track enabled. You also have to have a left & right input from your guitar source. Wether it be analog L&R or USB or Digital you still need a L&R input and you have to be recording to a stereo track.

  • Doesn't the sound get too confused with so many overdubs?

  • IDK does it sound confused to you? This is just a way to get a big "wall of sound" for your guitar parts. If you are playing a blues number then of coarse you would only need 1 guitar part. This technique is mainly for very high gain metal or heavy rock.

  • Yes pretty messy. This technique was widely used by Brian May to get his orchestral sound.

But the gain sums up, so if 5 tracks has to be added, the gain sohuld be reduced or the overall sound gets too messy

  • OK thanks

  • Your patches sound good, mine is only costructive criticism. Your job is excellent, keep it up.

I've tried them and they do sound good, even if they have the gain too high, but that may be my guitar and teh fact that u play with fingers... and it's very easy lower ;)

  • nice! :)

When I record in Cubase, the Volume is really really low, and you dont see as much waves. Do you know what the problem is? :/

  • I ment none :s

  • wat do you think is better glenn cubase or pro tools?

  • Well Pro Tools is the industry standard but Cubase is very powerful and many artists are putting out hit records using Cubase.

  • Glenn, you ROCK man. You're convincing me to buy a GT-10, for sure!

You have a great technique and knowledge about various guitar topics. Keep on posting the videos, great one mate!

  • Thanks bro. :)

  • dude get the gt 10, you wont be sorry. it's an amazing pedal, i use it as well. Glenn got me hooked to it lol

  • Do you know a cheaper alternavtiv to cubase?

  • Yes, try Reaper

  • Works great!

    Thanks alot

  • Comment removed

  • Nice!

Riff reminds me of motley crue's girls girls girls ;)

  • awesome stuff man!

  • CAN U POST THE TABS FOR DA RIFF

  • I don't do tabs.!!

  • its pretty easy to figure out man you can do it. the guitar is in drop c. start from there...

  • If you are gonna pan the tracks like that why are you making stereo takes ? just curious...

  • I just have a habit of recording stereo tracks on guitar.

  • hey glenn i gotta ask... what exactly is the four cable method? i just need a long story short. thanks and cool video very helpful.

  • I think it's pretty awesome how he doesn't use a pick but he can still do pinched harmonics!!! Glen, how the hell do you do that man??!!??

  • I know it's hard to see but I am using a pick. It's a thumb pick.

  • hi glen cant jus record one track and copy and paste it?

  • not the same!!

  • what software are you using for recording? or what do you suggest, im looking into recording with the gt10 aswell. thanks and nice playing ;)

  • nvm, i caught it the second time? but how is cubase? would u recommend it?

  • Yes, Cubase is a very goo recording software.

  • thanks, ill look into it =)

  • One thing that comes to mind about this, that one should consider, is whether or not one is a good "tracking guitarist". Meaning, is one good at playing tracks over and over again and capable of being within the desired range of exact duplication (or non-exact depending on the session). We had this drilled nearly Ad infinitum when I was at school. I discovered I am not a terribly good tracking guitarist.............. If you are like me, you must be on guard for deviances in the performance......

  • True, things can get jumbled up if the tracks are not in perfect time with each other. Good point!!

  • thanks glenn for the tips and i gotta ask again about the gt 10 does it sound this good thru a tube amp's effects return??? and is this pedal good in a live situation? thanks bro your an awesome guitar player by the way

  • I just wonder about one thing...

Isn't it better to have the tracks that have more high end on the sides, and the ones with more bass towards the center?

  • That really depends on what type of sound you are wanting.

  • hey!! this is actually good ;P

  • just quick question again, what sound card would you recommend to use with the gt-10? Which on do you use?

  • I use the Event Electronics Gina24. But there are plenty out there. Look at Edirol or even the Mackie table top units.
