  • That seems like a unbelievable waste of space, with those islands and nothing like being in Amsterdam. I am from Holland, what that needs is a curb to keep the cars out and separated. What about the fact that it is as wide as a car? You should actually ride around Holland before comparing a shitty NYC bike lane to their system. I don't understand the logic with most of the bike lanes you see here. It seems completely illogical to have parked cars, then bike lane, then cars driving.

  • wow

  • these are the dumbest things i ever seen

  • this is soo cool, its like bike heaven.

  • Wow: ~five blocks, is it? At least the river-side greenways are (I feel) nice.

  • i never wear helmet niether! they look gay! but i know i should.

wish i could bike in new york city, here in huntington beach, ca, its pretty chill, mostly just beach and small city.

  • Pity this lane isn't a few blocks longer either end - got mildly doored coming down 9th Ave up around 30th towards mid town the other night - where we really need good bike lanes!

  • wow I had no idea they had almost no bike lanes overthere :S .

they must be following the example of the Netherlands / Belgium etc xD

    thx for the vid!

  • Holy cow! They expect motorists to turn left clear across the bike lane -- note left turn only midway through the video.

How many fatalities before they stop the 'experiment'?

  • what you don't see in this video is the stoplights. The light to the left of the bike lane is specifically for bike traffic, then there's one to the left that regulates the left turn lane from the street. It works like a charm.

  • Actually, things have been working great for month now. No collisions in the 9th avenue lane and 95% of motorists respect the red lights.

  • What's wrong with the bigger lane over to the right?

  • Nice!

  • Nice vid! We just got our first lane similar to that here in Daejeon, South Korea. Until now they've been 99.99% sidewalk/pavement integrated.

  • Me too! Hey, if this can happen in the most populous city in the country, there's hope ...

  • i hope you are right about what you said in the end there.
