great video, come and join us at ẉẉẉ.ṭọṭheclouds.cọ.ụk its a social networking site just for microlight pilots and enthusiasts. you can put these youtube vids into album with pics aswell ad many many more features.
2) Used the can cost from 15.000 pounds to 100.000 pounds, It depends on the model you buy. It's like cars, you can buy a cheap, used one with some bad characteristics, or you can buy the new, expensive ''ferrri'' with good characteristics
thing that sucks most about flying is you dont see much detail of whats on the ground unless you fly very low. I think bush flying sounds the most interesting for this very reason. I wanna actually be able to see something
@Ortheos2006 If you are at all competent flying a glider you don't have to worry about crashing. The worst thing is probably an off field landing, which isn't that big of a deal. Plus by the time you are ready to jump from a glider you would already be too low for the parachute to fully deploy (unless something broke wayyyy up high ofc).
Amazing scenery. I did the bulk of my commercial flight training in Florida, which was fun, but when I flew for the first time in the UK, I wished I would have stayed here to do it. The views from the air are unbeatable.
How do you go about flying a glider? (For example, you need a license right?)
Is it the same as a pilots license for a powered aircraft, or is there a sailplane license? and what are the requirements? looking at the video it seems like a great and rewarding experience.
@yuriogy1 In the UK you learn through British Gliding Association affiliated clubs and go solo once you have progressed through the training syllabus and then work towards your Bronze badge which also involves a written exam and demonstration of flying skill to an examiner. It's a fantastically rewarding sport and not overly expensive, I highly recommend going down to your nearest club and having a go!
@yuriogy1 In the UK, you could learn to fly gliders for no monetary outlay by joining your local VGS or volunteer gliding squadron who provide air experience flights and instruction for air cadets. You need to meet medical and other criteria and will be expected to commit time and effort but you don't pay for launches etc. Look up "volunteer gliding squadron" on wickipedia and make contact with local VGS if you want more details. BGA or VGS, you'll have a great time flying with!
it's beautiful there. It's -20 here but the air is nice and smooth for powered flight. Still, I would trade to go to that place anyday.. Where am I moving to to be the guy crashing on your couch?
@Balleka Contrary to VirginiaHighlander, I quite enjoyed the magnificent view and seeing a fellow pilot enjoying the skies. Merry Christmas, happy landings!
you guys are lucky to have so many readily available fields to land out in, though i doubt you'll have to with a glide ratio like that!

2) How much does your average glider cost?
Cheers

That must be an amazing experience. No motor, just soaring like an eagle!

Why not wear a parachute and have an easy to eject canopy so you can jump out if something does go wrong and save yourself?
I've seen so many stories of ultralight deaths.
