It is important to realise that in a proper choral recording session the sound technician takes a great deal of care with the positioning of many microphones and then carefully blending the input at a mixing desk for optimal balance.
This appears to have been done with nothing more than a hand held video camera and the rather poor microphone these have.
Despite all that I think this rendition is wonderful.
Ethiccomm, May I sugggest that you go to a church near where you live and ask to talk with the priest or minister and tell him exactly what is happening and he will be able to help you to network with others who can help you. And for that, you can thank God. Youj're ion my prayers.
Is there a Christian that can offer me some words of hope? I know that sounds corny but I'm being sincere. I feel at the end of my line not making a very good living, in debt and having creditors on my case. If I lose the home my parent's left to my brother and me I don't know what I'll do. It would mean giving up my blessed dog Homer. I'm not in a good position for a 50 year old man, using the food bank and all. No education or training. Lord help me.
Do not despair. Keep the faith, be hopeful. When all else fails us, faith and hope sustain us. I'm sure those who read your words will keep you in their prayers.
@ethicomm - There are thousands praying for you. Do not loose the faith. We all go through challenges in life, but there is no question that the Lord will help you in your hour of need. God Bless You!
The Hope a christian can give u is the promise of everlasting life in Christ Jesus who willingly laid down His life in exchange for ur precious precious life.He loves u my friend &He desires 2change your heart, set you free from all darkness and restore and heal you. Will there still be trouble and difficulty in our lives?YES.But the promise is that He will be with u always to comfort you and lead u on the right path so to deliver u from your enemies & sin.Call out to Him & He will hear your cry.
@ethicomm Give us this day our daily bread is asking for all your needs to be met, spiritual, emotional, physical, intellectual, opportunities; every thing you may possibly need to complete His plan for your existence on this earth. You are putting too much emphasis on you and on material things. He sends opportunities to do good things, you just need to take advantage.
Lord's Prayer is straight from the gospel-Matthew 6:9-13 Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. [For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever.] Amen.
The bit in [ ] is not included in some early manuscripts of Matthew, and that is oft noted in printed bibles by the brackets and an accompanying footnote.
Another Brilliant Performance! Thanks again from an appreciative, sleepless tenor... I am Much more at peace now. God Bless.. and So beautifully, beautifully done! :)
In my opinion, this song would be best catagorized as "popular sacred." It was written in the 1930s, and its style doesn't really fit into any of the Classical genres.
Having been led to this choir after listening to the beautiful voice of John Puw, I can only concur with the latest comment. Absolutely stunning . Indeed, may the Lord bless you in 2009.
I just gave my very first performance...after 16 years of singing... of Handel's Messiah... 4 months of prep..and 1 shot and It's over. I was kind of ... almost depressed about it...and Then I heard this again. Absolutely Heavenly! Truly a a choir of Angels... May God Bless you all..and Have a Very Blessed and Merry Christmas!!
The Lord's Prayer Our Father which are in Heaven, Hallowed by thy Name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven Give us today our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us; And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, And the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
This was taken at a good tempo. More importantly the balance of the parts was well managed with the tenors and basses shining when needed. All who are associated with choral singing know that baritones predominate and to hear the tenors ringing in chest tone in the a-flat was just great. Then in the amen the tone of the basses was deep, rich and most importantly not flat. Well done!!!
I CANNOT GET ENOUGH OF THIS VIDEO! I have heard Hundreds of versions of this. I have sung it solo for 17 weddings. But this is Far and AWAY the BEST Version I have EVERRR HEARD. God Bless... and Thank You So much for posting this!
Once again...Thank you for this amazing piece of Heaven!!! It brings to close another Glorious day... Good night! Thank you... and God Continue to Bless you All!
Male voice choirs have sung this song for many, many years - the first tenors sing the tune almoust throughout with the voices beneath filling the harmany. The only time the tune is elsewhere is from "as we forgive our debtors" to the word "temptation", the baritones sing the tune here. Also, the final Amens (after the Bb climax) are a little different to the way the solo version.
For your further info, I checked the score and the arrangement is by someone called Carl Deis. The last sentence of my previous answer should not include the word "way" - I should have deleted it after changing the sentence, but as usual didn't read properly before pressing Post Comment.
STUNNING!!! Had a rough past couple of days...then i remembered I hadn't watched this video at night before going to bed. I did last night.. and I had an AWESOME day today. God Bless you ALL for posting this. Truly Breathtaking!!!
Wow! Simply breath-taking. I had to close my eyes and savor the beauty of the song, accepting the grace of God. I got misty as it connected me to my Father. When I reach that age as most of them in the clip, I thought I could still sing the way they do, and still give glory to God. Thank you very much for this wonderful gift. God be gracious to you!
PS. Kindly allow embedding for the greater glory of God and the benefit of His people. gracias.
This choir is really something special. How does this Musical Director get them to perform in such a beautiful way - many hours of hard work I bet. The baritones and basses are truly captivating
THANK YOU!! I have sung this for 17 different weddings for friends, family, and around my city. I have heard countless others sing it. I sang wiht a professional choir for 7 years...and took 5 yrs of voice lessons... I have NEVER heard this sound SOOO beautiful!!! I cried.. Thank you.. that final amen?? truly heavenly God bless
Thank God for beautiful voices. I first heard this song at a Sydney Male Choir's rehearsal and fell in love with it. Thank you for the memories. R.I.P ... Samuel Andrew Morrison.
haha, andt I'm afraid you won't get it, until you close your eyes and open your ears. Then maybe you'll see a choir instead of a bunch, geezers or not. If you open your heart as well, you'll see a prayer... and this one's a very, very old prayer, but still alive here.

What impresses most is the whole dynamic control - this piece takes the choir from extreme pianissimo to a fortisimo ending (high B flat for the top tenors). Both extremes work perfectly. And not many Male Voice choirs sing with such line - it is so difficult to get a body of singers to do it, but it is wonderful here. The conductor deserves the highest accolades!!
