Hello Sgt. Volkin. I have recently been watching a lot of videos on how to survive basic training. Could you possibly make more videos because these are helping tons. Thank you :)
They have two different types of socks. 1. Green socks to wear with your boots and 2. Black dress socks to where with your dress uniform. Both types of socks are prepared the same way for inspections.
I don't remember doing socks like that; come to think of it, I don't remember how we even did our socks. Maybe we just folded them in half or something, not sure. I think I would have remembered otherwise since I still do my T shirts and underwear the way we did them there. Except I don't care about it being all perfect. I chucked that issue out when I moved on to tech school. I guess a lot of methods have been changed since 1991-92 (I spent New Year there).
Graduated basic May 21st 2010 323trs flt 362, still do hospital corners and fold everything the same from towels to underwear to t-shirts. Can't say I still roll my sand tee's but I fold them like pt shirts.
@pattymac89 Some things just stay with you. Do you still find yourself eating really fast or almost flipping your glass over when you finish drinking from it? = )
It will after a while, but you won't notice it during your time in basic training. Also, you learn that once you get a sock that passes one inspection you won't touch it. Instead you will leave it rolled for the next one. I left about 80-90% of my clothes untouched once I had them inspection ready and wore the other 20-10%. Don't worry, you're constantly having laundry done.

Every military branch has uniform inspections. Socks are just one aspect of that.
